Chapter 41: Chapter 41 Drunken Embarrassment_1
“I believe what you’re saying. Just looking at how the kids have become healthier since she married into the family, I can tell she’s a good one. But a woman needs to have a child to settle down, and you two have a ten-year age gap. You need to be extra careful not to repeat your old ways. I’ve said my piece, but it’s still your life to live. Think it over, and let’s not talk about this anymore. Let’s drink, just the two of us.” Uncle thought deeply about things due to his age and experience.
Zhao Erhu opened his mouth as if to retort, but in the end, he couldn’t say what was on his mind. His expression was especially complex. There are some things you can deceive others about but not yourself. Just as Uncle had said, there was a ten-year age difference between him and Lin Yue. He hadn’t thought it mattered before, but it felt different now that he really cared.
Lin Yue was such a good woman, she deserved better. He feared he wasn’t good enough for her, which is why he was so anxious, keeping her firmly within his reach as much as he could, fearing any unexpected changes. Even though he said he trusted Lin Yue and kept telling himself to believe in her, he panicked at the thought of her going to the market to sell food and refused her without discussion. He claimed he was worried she might be taken advantage of, but in reality, he just wanted his little wife to depend more on him, not wanting her to have the ability to support herself. Only if she relied solely on him could he find peace.
“Let’s not talk about this, let’s drink.” Zhao Erhu picked up his glass and took a big swig with Uncle Zhao Xinglin.
With good wine, good meat, good dishes, and unspeakable thoughts, Zhao Erhu undoubtedly got drunk. He staggered home and started being overly affectionate with Lin Yue, babbling ‘good wife, obedient wife, don’t leave’ and other such phrases, occasionally kissing Lin Yue and then giggling foolishly. Lin Yue really had no way to handle Zhao Erhu, and it took considerable effort to wipe his face and help him to the bedroom to rest. Once in bed, Zhao Erhu clung to Lin Yue and refused to let go, dominantly coiling around her so she couldn’t even turn over. Lin Yue barely held back from kicking the drunken man out of the bed.
Zhao Erhu had a very regular routine; he would wake up as soon as the day broke, then carry water and chop wood. If Lin Yue hadn’t woken up, he would prepare breakfast before leaving to work. His biological clock was such that, even though he got drunk last night, he still rose early today.

With a somewhat aching head from the hangover, he looked at Lin Yue, who was still sleeping sweetly beside him. Remembering his drunken embarrassment from last night and his little wife’s meticulous care, a warm smile appeared on Zhao Erhu’s face, making him feel especially good this morning.
“Brother Xinglin, what brings you here? Come in and have a seat.” Zhao Erhu was surprised to see Zhao Xinglin at his door when he returned from carrying water, especially since he was supposed to return to the city this morning. He wondered what brought him over so early.
“Where’s your wife? Is she up yet?” Zhao Xinglin glanced around and, not seeing Erhu’s wife, inquired. His main purpose for coming was to see Erhu’s wife.
“Indeed, she’s still in the house. I wore her out last night, and she’s still sleeping, hasn’t woken up yet.” Zhao Erhu’s reply was very ambiguous, and seeing Zhao Xinglin look at him with a suggestive and understanding expression, Zhao Erhu knew Zhao Xinglin had misunderstood, but he didn’t explain and asked him the reason for his visit instead.
Hearing the voices conversing in the courtyard, Lin Yue, who slept in the room, faintly registered that a guest had arrived. Lin Yue couldn’t sleep anymore, knowing that people might find out she, as a daughter-in-law, was sleeping in while her husband was up working. She worried about how it might tarnish her reputation, got dressed hastily, and got up.
