Chapter 527 – Ambush!

Ye Feng gave up on cultivating and took out food and wine to share with Xiao Chen. The latter grinned like a fool.

Hm, Ye Feng’s pretty good guy too. But Li Guanqi... Hmph! That bastard! I was just thinking about what a good person he is, and now he wants to cultivate amidst mortal distractions with Wanshu.

Xiao Chen sat cross-legged opposite Ye Feng, taking out wine and food from his own storage ring.

“Senior Li, may I enter?” Li Guanqi asked.

Li Changqing rolled his eyes. “No! If you manage to get inside before we reach the Divine Treasure Territory, my years of cultivation would’ve been for nothing.”

Li Guanqi took several deep breaths, suppressing the fire in his heart. Nothing he could do about it.

Earlier, Li Changqing had spotted the messy sheets through Meng Wanshu’s door and drawn his own conclusions. He hadn’t stopped them the first time because he’d been eavesdropping all night. Li Guanqi and Meng Wanshu had just talked until dawn, so he kept quiet.

Li Guanqi tried sweet-talking, scolding, and borderline threatening Li Changqing with his grandfather’s identity, but he refused to budge.

Out of options, Li Guanqi turned away. He spotted Ye Feng and Xiao Chen drinking on the deck and headed over.

Xiao Chen instinctively clutched his head and yelled, “One beating wasn’t enough for you?! If you keep this up, I’m leaving!”

Li Guanqi sat between them, grabbed a jar of wine, and took a long drink. “Whatever. Go if you want. So annoying.”

Since Li Guanqi made no move to hit him, Xiao Chen lowered his hands and glanced toward Li Changqing, who stood guard at Meng Wanshu’s door. He chuckled knowingly.

His thoughts were obvious, but Li Guanqi refrained from punching him. Xiao Chen was still a decent person.

The trio chatted and drank.

Li Guanqi froze mid-drink and released Peng Luo. However, the moment Peng Luo appeared, he launched himself at Ye Feng’s face.

Bam!

Ye Feng flew backward, tumbling across the floor. He smashed through a railing and slammed into the light barrier. Xiao Chen froze with a chicken drumstick halfway to his mouth, stunned.

Peng Luo stood with his hands on his hips, looking smug. Xiao Chen had barely seen a blur before Ye Feng went flying. What the hell is that thing?

Peng Luo surveyed the food, grabbed a wine jar, and moved to smash it over Ye Feng’s head.

Li Guanqi yanked him back and said accusingly, “Didn’t you say you wanted to come out and drink?!”

Peng Luo froze, then hid the wine jar behind his back. “I’m just here for revenge! Trickery is allowed in battle, you know. If I hadn’t said that, you wouldn’t have let me out.”

Li Guanqi chuckled bitterly. Peng Luo really knew how to hold a grudge.

Across the deck, Ye Feng staggered upright, two red footprints stamped across his face. The kick had rattled his spirit platform.

He drew his deep golden sword furiously, sword intent flaring. He licked his lips and said, “I swear I’ll cook you today, or my surname isn’t Ye!”

Peng Luo jabbed a finger at him, furious. “You bastard! You tried to make me into soup once, so I kicked you! What’s wrong with that? Now you want to try again? I’m tier six now! Do you know how powerful I am?”

Li Guanqi raised an eyebrow at the puffed-up radish.

Xiao Chen kept shooting Li Guanqi looks behind Peng Luo’s back, his expression saying, “How do you put up with this? I’d have cooked him already.”

Still, Xiao Chen was just watching the show. This was his first time seeing a tier-six spirit, and while he felt tempted to cook Peng Luo too, Peng Luo wasn’t his.

Li Guanqi drank a mouthful of wine and bent slightly as it burned his throat. “Brother Luo, you’re already at the sixth tier. Why be afraid of him? Go get him.”

Peng Luo puffed up with confidence. He looked up and declared, “You are my master’s good friend, so I’ll be generous. Apologize, and I’ll let you go.”

Ye Feng was so mad that he laughed. He sneered and said, “Alright, I will give you a proper apology.”

An invisible, shimmering barrier surrounded Peng Luo and Ye Feng. Li Guanqi and Xiao Chen burst into laughter.

“What a funny little guy. I think he’ll be crying for help very soon,” Xiao Chen said.

Li Guanqi smiled. Before he could speak, Peng Luo shot out from a spatial tear, nose bloody. Flailing his arms, he cried, “Help! Master! Help!”

Li Guanqi pretended not to hear and clinked his wine jar against Xiao Chen’s. Silence hung between them, Xiao Chen’s face etched with a troubled expression.

Li Guanqi set down his wine jar and shoved Peng Luo’s head back into the spatial tear.

Xiao Chen said wistfully, “Li Guanqi, tell me... Does a first love beat someone who has been by your side for years?”

He looked at Li Guanqi, wondering how Li Guanqi would answer this question.

Li Guanqi took a sip, then replied, “I think first love is important.”

Xiao Chen waited for Li Guanqi to continue.

“A first love is unforgettable because of all the memories you make together. But whoever you’re with now... that matters too. If Wanshu doesn’t have feelings for you, she just doesn’t. But Xiao Chen, I still think you’re an excellent person.”

Xiao Chen almost burst into tears. Then Li Guanqi added, “Of course, I’m a little better than you.”

“Li Guanqi! You’re shameless!!”

Li Guanqi laughed, and his eyes grew distant. “If I hadn’t cultivated, hadn’t encountered all those opportunities, hadn’t survived those brushes with death... I’d still be that wild youth from a tiny mountain village. Even if Wanshu still liked me, I think I would’ve given up. Too much self-doubt.”

He smiled. “That’s why I have to keep getting stronger.”

Xiao Chen nodded. If Li Guanqi weren’t so capable and talented, he wouldn’t have accepted things so calmly. Their fight made it clear that Li Guanqi was stronger. Furthermore, he had a mysterious, powerful background.

Li Guanqi had even said that his grandfather could beat Meng Jiangchu. Xiao Chen had his doubts, but Li Guanqi didn’t seem like the type to lie.

Xiao Chen sighed. Just as he was about to speak, Li Guanqi’s face drained of color.

Li Guanqi’s eyes sharpened. He raised his hand, waking Nine Heavens, then shattered Ye Feng’s vital force domain with a punch. “We’re under attack!”

On the deck, Li Changqing had long been holding his sword. Rising to his feet, he said, “Finally, they’ve come for us.”
