A Beloved Wife in Marriage-Chapter 23
This Was His Final Goal Tonight
When Lin Qingqian returned to the banquet hall, Madam Liang happened to be accompanying Chairman Liang on stage to give a speech and thank everyone for coming to his birthday banquet.
After some pleasantries, he officially announced his retirement and handed the company over to his son and daughter-in-law to manage. In the future, he would only accompany his wife shopping.
The news of Chairman Liang’s retirement had spread for a long time, and most of the people present knew about it, so they were not surprised. Instead, the surprising part was when they mentioned Jiang Yanshen and Lin Qingqian and even invited them to go on stage.
Lin Qingqian was slightly surprised for a moment before holding Jiang Yanshen’s arm and ascending the stage in front of everyone.
Chairman Liang very enthusiastically gave up the microphone and let the two young people stand in the middle while he held his wife’s hand and went down.
Jiang Yanshen looked around with his calm eyes. His thin lips moved, and his low and slow voice spread throughout the banquet hall like the sound of a cello—
“Today, taking advantage of Chairman Liang’s birthday banquet, I’ll officially introduce someone to everyone. The person standing beside me is my wife, Lin Qingqian. We’ll be holding our wedding next month.”
As soon as these words were spoken, there was an uproar. Only Chairman Liang and Madam Liang revealed approving gazes.
Lu Qinshang, who had just returned from the washroom, heard Jiang Yanshen announce the wedding when he entered. He was so surprised that he almost bit his tongue off.
He elbowed Gu Xici. “Did I hear wrongly? Ah Yan wants to hold a wedding with Lin Qingqian?”
Without batting an eyelid, he took a step to the side and pulled away before answering, “You didn’t hear wrongly.”
Lu Qinshang thought of Gu Xici’s words just now and looked at Jiang Yanshen and Lin Qingqian standing on the stage. His mind was filled with only one word—f*ck!
Lin Qingqian’s originally still eyelashes suddenly trembled when he finished speaking. She turned her head and looked at the man beside her in disbelief…
For a moment, everything in the world seemed to have frozen and silently disappeared into the darkness. Only a beam of light landed on the man’s handsome side profile.
So this was his final goal tonight.
… .
In the latter half of the banquet, Lin Qingqian almost did not speak, nor did she care about Lu Qinshang’s gaze that seemed to be asking, “What kind of poison did you feed to Ah Yan?”
On the way back, she was still sitting by the car window. She turned her head to look at the scenery that kept retreating outside the window. Gradually, as if she had been blinded by something, her long eyelashes slowly lowered.
Jiang Yanshen’s gaze moved from her fair cheek to her exquisite earlobe, then to her beautiful swan neck, and finally to her porcelain-white hand on the black dress.
His fingertips moved a few times, but in the end, he did not hold her hand.
The car slowly stopped. Lin Qingqian did not wait for the driver to open the door and got out directly. She walked into the building quickly, as if there was something chasing after her.
“Qianqian!” Jiang Yanshen called out to her.
Lin Qingqian suddenly stopped in her tracks. Her thin and slender figure stood especially straight in the night, like a red plum blossom blooming in winter, fragrant and proud.
Jiang Yanshen got out of the car. “Are you upset?”
Lin Qingqian turned around to look at him. Her clear eyes were even colder than the moonlight. “Why should I be happy?”
Jiang Yanshen frowned. Before he could say anything, he heard her mocking voice. “Now, everyone in Lan City knows that I’m your wife. There will be a wedding next month. You’ve fulfilled your wish and made me unable to mention the word divorce.”
His drastic measures had really forced her into a corner.
Jiang Yanshen was silent, also tacitly agreeing.
He was indeed using such a method to force her to give up on the idea of a divorce.
Lin Qingqian smiled faintly. “Jiang Yanshen, you’ve always been like this. You’re self-centered and never care about the feelings of the people around you.”
