Chapter 265: Former Friend

Baam

Xiu slammed her hand against the wall, as her eyes locked onto the man she hadn’t seen for sixteen years. Fortunately, she knew herself well and had the mansion renovated to handle her occasional anger bursts.

On the other hand, Michael was imperturbable to her actions as he smiled languidly and leaned against the polished stone wall. Looking at her with calm, sun-like eyes, he said, "You haven’t learnt to control your anger even now."

"What are you doing here?" Xiu asked, keeping her voice low.

"Ignoring my question. Really haven’t changed at all despite being a mother," Michael shook his head and replied calmly. "And I already answered your question."

Xiu continued to stare at him, her eyes digging daggers into his soul but the man didn’t even flinch. Even under her stubborn gaze, he remained unfazed and simply smiled.

"And it’s the same for you. Infuriating as always," Xiu clicked her tongue. "Why did you accept his invitation?"

"My dear former friend, I can’t reject a Valerian’s invitation, even if it leads me to meet you," Michael smiled. "Besides, if you hate my presence so much, why didn’t you tell that to Aegon? I’m sure things would be different then."

Xiu flinched at the way he called her former friend, then looked away. She leaned against the wall beside him and said, "I won’t jeopardize his future just to show my hate toward you."

"So, you still hate me?" Michael asked, glancing at her. "Am I still a mistake?"

Xiu visibly stiffened at his words and then turned to walk away. "Don’t throw around words like that. Also, you can stay here as long as you don’t bother me."

"Shouldn’t I be the one to say that, Xiu?" Michael sighed, his voice like honey butter to Xiu. "I always try to keep myself out of your business, you know."

The way he called her name made Xiu pause in her steps, as memories of the past resurfaced. Some memories where he called that name so many times that she lost count...

She clenched her hands, her nails digging deep into her palms, as she turned around and stormed toward him. Getting close to him, she pushed him back against the wall and asked, "Since when did I bother you? It’s you who always messed up my perfectly calm life."

"You seriously need to re-evaluate the definition of calmness," Michael was still calm, despite Xiu basically breathing fire at his face. "And I’ve said, I stopped bothering you since that incident."

If anyone else had seen this, they would have been surprised. Xiu came off as dominant and intimidating for many people, especially with her stubborn nature.

But Michael didn’t even flinch. He also didn’t fight her impulsive self. He was just... being himself. And that alone seemed to irritate Xiu to no end for some reason.

It was as Michael said, he never went to bother her but his presence alone bothered her. He was the only one who remained unfazed by everything she did, and as stubborn as she was, Xiu always tried to mess up his calm life.

So, he really wondered where she got the audacity to blame him for disturbing her life. But then again, she always had that audacity, maybe that’s why it happened...

He shook his head and said, "Get aside, Xiu."

"Or what?" Xiu challenged him. "What are you going to do? Finally snap and attack me? Do it!"

"You know very clearly I will never attack you," Michael sighed.

Xiu smirked and said, "You’re a coward."

Michael raised his head, his golden orb-like eyes staring deep into hers which made her a bit uncomfortable and she wanted to look away, but remembering that it would be his victory, she forced herself to continue looking at him.

He suddenly smiled and took out a black dagger from his storage ring. An ancient aura oozed out of it, as strips of thin blood-red strange metal ran along its hilt. The blade itself was sharp enough to cut the air easily.

Xiu’s eyes widened in disbelief seeing the dark dagger as she moved to snatch it but Michael had anticipated it and switched it to his other hand.

"You still have this? Why?" Xiu asked, after failing to get the dagger in many tries. "Didn’t you say you’d sell it?"

"Yes, I thought I’ll have better uses for it," Michael said, playing with the dagger through his fingers. "I think I was right."

Xiu watched the dagger greedily, her whole body itching to steal it but she knew it was impossible. For some reason, Michael could read her mind most of the time so her plans of stealing never really worked.

As for this dagger, it wasn’t anything special in particular but she liked it a lot. Michael knew it too, he made sure it remained with him.

Her eyes sparkled. "Are you finally giving it to me? Thank you so much. I knew you would come around someday."

"Who said I’m giving it to you?" Michael seemed genuinely confused. "I only wished to share the news with you. Nothing else."

Xiu’s mouth hung open as she then glared at him hatefully and pointed her finger. "And you say I bother you. Can’t you see your own actions? Or have you turned blind and deaf after being the Crown Prince?"

"Once again, I’m innocent, Miss Xiu," Michael smiled and gently pushed her aside. "Now then, we should go back. I’m sure you dragging me inside like this will affect your reputation."

"Mine or yours?" Xiu scoffed. "Also, I will take the dagger one day from you. I swear I’ll take it."

Michael was already walking away by then, but hearing her words he stopped and turned back. He looked at her in clear disappointment and sighed, "You need a brain."

"You need a brain! Your father needs a brain! Your whole family needs a brain!" Xiu shouted from behind, but then Michael had already walked out.

Left alone, Xiu punched the wall beside her, this time it really cracked. "Why am I getting so worked up? It’s the same old things again."

She hurriedly shook her head and slapped her cheeks. "Forget about all of it. Today is Little Sun’s special day. I can’t ruin it."

With that, she walked back into the courtyard ready to greet everyone when she saw someone she didn’t think she would see that day.
