Chapter 250: Creating Miracle

Between the two of them, Aegon was the blacksmith. Though he also learned that Liliana could make things too as long as they weren’t too complex. But this one was his project, so the responsibility of making the machine fell on him.

When she was done explaining every single thing, Aegon inspected the machine himself since he wanted to familiarise himself with the design down to the minute details so he wouldn’t mess up later on.

Fortunately, he had his perfect memory, so he remembered everything clearly.

"These are the materials matching the Rune," Aegon explained as he showed her the nine ingredients. "I also made sure their rhythm matched with the other Rune Formations needed for this machine. It was a bit troublesome, though."

"They’re expensive materials," Liliana pointed out. "I can understand if this was just for Mages since this cost doesn’t matter then. But it doesn’t suit your goals."

"Senior, there are multiple things with a similar rhythm," Aegon smiled. "Even if they don’t exist, we can technically create them as long as we have the base. That’s what I plan to do with the Mana Batteries to bring the cost down."

Liliana nodded in understanding and scanned the room. Staring at the materials and the prototype, she smiled. "Still, it feels unreal that you’re this close to creating history. Well, you already did, but this is on another level."

Aegon shrugged, though his heart also swelled with pride and happiness. This was his invention, after all. The system might have helped him in many things, like shortening the time he needed for identifying things, but the whole idea and study were his own.

No one in the history of this continent had created something like this. Some had tried but ultimately failed and left insights for him.

’Chill! There is still the main thing left.’

Aegon took a deep breath and took out the tools needed to craft the machine. All of which were of the best quality and rank, and he always kept them in his infinite storage ring.

Fortunately, the room had enough space and was engraved with the necessary Rune Formations so he could forge things inside.

He turned towards Liliana and grinned. "Ready to create?"

Liliana returned his smile with equal enthusiasm and said, "I was born ready for this."

The two of them then immersed themselves in a long session of forging and experiments on the new machine with the nine main ingredients.

Since Aegon was doing the main work, Liliana became the overseer of the operation. She was also more knowledgeable among the two and had a keen eye for things, so she helped him from the side while giving suggestions from time to time if he was making a mistake somewhere.

She did everything happily and was smiling throughout the process. It was a dream come true for her, who had longed for love from her child.

She was helping him as he created that one thing that would bring a change in the era, something that would elevate humanity’s lifestyle by a notch in every way.

She was helping him create a miracle.

How could she not be happy?

She considered herself the happiest woman in the world at that moment.

Watching her son focusing on his work so intently brought a wave of joy to her heart. She savoured the moment.

Of course, this didn’t affect her ability to help him in the operation. In fact, since she wanted him to succeed, she gave her everything to ensure that success.

And it showed clearly.

That day, Aegon truly understood why Liliana was treated as a sage who saved humanity from extinction. Her mind was simply on another level even though they were similar.

’She is amazing!’

Aegon spent a long time experimenting with the Mana Batteries since he was inexperienced with all of this, so while he had grown a lot since then, he expected to face many failures before meeting success.

Who knew he wouldn’t even get a chance to fail properly?

Liliana had no special eyes like his, but she could identify the problems in his forgery before he even completed it halfway. It helped a lot as he could change and improve it, which would once again have some mistakes that she would point out.

Just like that, the two of them continued from the morning to evening, wasting one material after another. But Aegon wasn’t discouraged in the slightest.

In fact, it was the opposite. He was happy since the progress was multiple times faster than he expected because of Liliana, and he truly appreciated her presence in this operation since he came to learn many things.

Finally, it was evening and the world outside Dusk City was witnessing the sun fleeing from the encroaching darkness. But Dusk City remained the same as ever, trapped in frozen time.

The mood in one particular room of the Lotus Palace was joyful, though no one laughed or showed their overflowing happiness clearly. Both of them just had big smiles on their faces as they stared at a dark structure before them.

"I can’t believe we succeeded," Aegon muttered in disbelief. "Just two days of progress."

Liliana patted his shoulders lightly and smiled. "Then believe it, because we did it. You did it. You brought this miracle to life. Congratulations!"

"Wait! Wait! Let’s first test it out before congratulating each other," Aegon said, still a bit apprehensive.

Now that the moment of success was getting near, he was growing nervous for some reason. Liliana’s presence calmed his nerves, though, so he acted quickly.

Taking out the Soul Essence Battery, he filled it with his Soul Essence. It was an easy task considering there was a Rune Formation meant to draw it in.

Once it was filled one-third, he stopped and gasped for breath.

"Looks like you’ll need to pay a lot to Soul Cultivators to refill these batteries," Liliana pointed out after seeing his condition. "A Third Cycle Cultivator like you only filled one-third. But I guess you aren’t in your peak condition."

Aegon nodded. "I can definitely do twice as much if I’m well rested. Also, I don’t need to pay anything really. I’m going to abuse my authority."

Liliana frowned in confusion initially, then her eyes widened in understanding. "Don’t tell me..."

"Yup!" Aegon shrugged. "They nag me a lot, so they can do this much at least. Besides, they know I’ll become Supreme one day anyway, so no one wants to be on my bad side. It’s a trivial matter for them, anyway."

Of course, he was referring to the members of House Valeria. Most of them were Soul Cultivators of very high calibre actually, so it really was a small matter for them to fill these Soul Essence Batteries.

Liliana smiled proudly. "Smart! You’re using your resources well."

"Of course, I want this to be as cheap as possible," Aegon smiled as he rubbed his nose sheepishly. "I’ll let rogue Soul Cultivators contribute if they want, though. All of this will ensure I have low competition."

"On one hand, you want everyone to have it so you make it cheaply, but then you also want to monopolise it," Liliana chuckled softly.

Aegon cleared his throat and looked away. "I would like to put the blame on Xiu."

"That works too."

Aegon smiled seeing how easily she bought it.

Since the Soul Essence Battery was filled, he placed it in a slot behind the main pillar of the machine. It looked similar to the prototype, except this one was pitch black in colour.

"Still can’t believe such a sensitive Rune settled so easily on this."

Aegon knew that feeling and had to agree with her. The Trigger Rune was so sensitive that it created a fissure in spacetime curvature due to a minor reaction, yet it remained perfectly calm with these new materials.

"This is the magic of rhythm."

He set up a few things on the machine, then took out a small cuboidal metal box. Coloured deep orange, it looked plain with nothing eye-catching on it.

Liliana took it from his hand and examined it. The box was the size of her palm, contrary to what Aegon had initially used for Mana Batteries.

Her eyebrows raised slightly as she said, "You really did it, huh. This is made from cheap materials. Even the villagers can afford them, though it’s useless to them."

"Yup! And funnily enough, they’re found in huge quantities in Thornspire," Aegon replied. "What a funny coincidence. Well, this also means we can set up our factory there without any problems. Both the source of materials and mana are there."

"Indeed. It couldn’t get better than this."

Liliana put the metal box between the slabs, in its intended position, then backed away. Aegon handled the machine’s functions as the two slabs connected, creating a hollow chamber between them which now housed the metal box.

Bright light shimmered from the slabs as both of them stared deeply at the machine, each holding their breath in anticipation.

Finally, after a few minutes, the light disappeared and the slabs separated, revealing the same metal box.

Except now, it was eye-catching.
