Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1174 - 1169: Familial Power Struggles (Part 2)
Sitting on the sofa, Joseph Lancaster let out a cold laugh as he played with the baby. His son had one redeeming quality: he seemed gentle and easy-going, but in reality, he was quite sharp. He wouldn’t hesitate to mock his "dear second uncle," let alone anyone else.
Aurora Lancaster also chuckled lightly. She couldn’t stand her cousin Daemon’s pretentious behavior, but now everyone kept to themselves behind closed doors, so she didn’t bother addressing it.
Daemon Lancaster seemed not to notice his nephew’s sarcasm. Leaning forward, he sighed as he absentmindedly fiddled with the teacup, "Ah, it’s thanks to Evander and the other son’s strength. Now two deals have been successfully negotiated, and after the new year, we’ll be busy."
Mentioning his two sons, Daemon’s face was filled with unabashed pride. Every descendant of the Lancaster Family graduated and returned to work at the family company, except for Evander Lancaster. He defied his mother’s objections to study medicine, and even went independent by opening his own hospital, a rebellious act that was once the laughing stock among the various branches of the Lancaster Family.
Now being so indirectly criticized by his uncle Daemon, Evander Lancaster didn’t mind. He sighed softly and said, "Uncle has truly taught his sons well, raising such excellent brothers. If choosing the Family Head were still in practice, then Brother would be the best candidate."
As soon as Evander finished speaking, Daemon’s expression changed.
The Lancaster Family had strict rules, with the successor to the Family Head required to be the eldest son of the previous Family Head.
Evander’s grandfather was the eldest son of the Family Head, as was his father, whereas Daemon was merely the son of the grandfather’s younger brother. The power struggle for the Family Head position against his father was inherently illegitimate, hence why he was so unwelcome within the Lancaster family.
Evander’s words hit Daemon where it hurt. Hearing this, Joseph immediately lifted the baby onto his shoulders and stood up, "Let’s go, Second Uncle will give the baby a horse ride..."
Violet Zimmerman slightly raised her eyebrows at her son’s words, and elegantly leaned forward to take a sip of tea.
Aurora was more direct, leaning over the sister-in-law to enthusiastically ask, "Evander, is this your girlfriend? What family’s lady is she? Why haven’t you introduced her to your aunt?"
"Hmph!" Willow Lancaster crossed her arms and sneered.
Evander took Sophia Hamilton’s hand and introduced her, "Sophia, this is Aunt."
"Hello, Aunt." Sophia Hamilton politely stood up and nodded slightly, "Well, well." Aurora Lancaster said, smiling and nodding.
"This is Uncle."
Evander extended his arm again, and Sophia Hamilton also slightly bowed to Daemon Lancaster, "Hello, Uncle."
"Mm," Daemon Lancaster responded arrogantly without even lifting his eyelids, stirring the tea leaves with the teacup lid before taking a sip.
Sophia Hamilton pursed her lips, visibly uncomfortable.
"This is Willow, daughter of the Third Uncle."
"Hello,"
Sophia Hamilton nodded slightly, and Willow Lancaster tilted her head slightly as she regarded her, saying with a half-smile, "Brother, what brand is your girlfriend’s knit sweater? Why does it look as cheap as those on eBay?"
Sophia Hamilton...
Her face turned ashen, biting her lower lip, standing stiffly before Evander.
"What are you talking about, child? Do you think everyone likes designer brands like you?" Aurora Lancaster couldn’t stand it and chided Willow, given that she was Daemon’s younger brother’s daughter, thus a generation removed.
"What’s wrong with liking designer brands? My parents have money, and I can afford it!" Willow Lancaster retorted defiantly, raising her chin.
