Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1172 - 1167: No Need to Please Anyone Deliberately
Winter always gives a sense of bleakness and coldness, yet some people feel warmth because of companionship.
Like Evander Lancaster, who finds his life less monotonous thanks to the presence of Sophia Hamilton, often visiting his mother-in-law’s home for meals, conveniently bringing some ingredients along.
Watching Evander Lancaster carrying heavy bags every time, Juliana Lancaster felt happy but could not help advising, "Evander, don’t buy things all the time, you’ll spend your whole salary."
Evander would laugh and say, "Auntie, rest assured, I’ve saved enough money to marry Sophia."
Every time she heard their conversation, Sophia couldn’t help but silently complain about the hypocritical man, who owned a large hospital but wouldn’t allow her to tell her mother, claiming he didn’t want her to treat him differently, hmph, hypocrite! But she liked him anyway.
Perhaps it was because they all had partners that this winter the brothers rarely gathered; Titus Zane was taken back to Capital City by his grandfather to reconnect with his roots, and Nathan Moore spent most of his time there as well.
Felix Shaw and Mia Foster could be considered an old couple, yet they still gave off the feeling of newly in love, going to and from work together every day, with Felix occasionally creating some small romantic moments.
Sophie Foster’s belly was growing by the day, and now she had become a national treasure, mostly staying home to care for her pregnancy, occasionally going out shopping with a little helper.
In the blink of an eye, it was New Year’s Day, the festive season of family reunions.
Evander had already informed his mother-in-law, and he brought Sophia home for New Year’s. Although his mother always told him over the phone to break up with Sophia, he was firm in his decision to never change.
Knowing his mother disapproved, he still insisted on bringing Sophia home for the holidays, just to have the Lancaster Family accept Sophia as his wife.
The Lancaster Family was a large clan, with all the relatives living in one "community". Evander remembered during his elementary school days, they used to have meals together in a big house, with parents and uncles at one table, and they, the younger generation, sitting together... However, at some point, they started dining separately in their own homes, but during the holidays, the relatives still gathered.
In the morning, after freshening up, Evander drove to pick up Sophia, and of course, brought gifts and ingredients for his mother-in-law.
Unlike the last time, Sophia dressed up meticulously before leaving the house, hoping to make a good impression on her future mother-in-law.
On the road, she repeatedly asked, "Does your mom not like me?"
"No, my mom really likes you,"
"But last time, I felt she wasn’t very warm,"
"My mom’s just that kind of cold person," Evander explained, worried that Sophia would feel burdened and added, "When you had dinner, you saw it too, she treats my sister-in-law the same way."
Sophia recalled the scene of her first visit to Evander’s home, noticing that the future mother-in-law seemed to also treat the sister-in-law the same way, not interacting much. Perhaps rich people are just aloof.
Before the car even reached the little villa, the sound of girls’ laughter could be heard from a distance. Sophia lightly coughed, instinctively adjusting her collar, showing her nervousness. Evander reached over, held her hand, and smiled comfortingly, "It’s okay, there are many relatives at home, and they are about the same age as you, no need to be nervous."
"Will they not like me?" Even after the car stopped, Sophia was still worried. Evander smiled, lifted his hand to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, placed his big hand on her shoulder, and earnestly said, "Remember, you don’t need to deliberately please anyone. If you really want to, then you just need to please me!"
