Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1153 - 1148: How Long Do You Plan to Keep Hiding It?
"It’s all your fault!" Sophia complained angrily, shaking off Evander Lancaster’s hand and returning to the living room.
Initially, it was an expression of genuine dislike for Evander, but in Juliana Lancaster’s eyes, it was interpreted differently. She thought Sophia was shy after being seen holding hands with Evander. Watching her daughter’s back, she shook her head, smiled, and sighed, "This child, really!"
Retracting her gaze, she warmly invited Evander to the dining table, "Evander, come sit down, you’ve been hungry for so long. Let’s eat without waiting for her."
"Thank you, Auntie." Evander sat down at the dining chair, not touching his chopsticks and waiting for Sophia and her mother. A thirty-year-old man visiting his mother-in-law’s home for the first time, he didn’t appear the least bit uneasy, remaining perfectly polite.
Especially his profession, which greatly pleased Juliana. A surgeon, working in the same healthcare field like herself. His salary wasn’t low either, and with her daughter’s salary added, there would be no problem living comfortably after marriage. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Since there was a "guest" present, Sophia took off her coat to join the meal without changing into her casual cartoon pajamas. She gave Evander a disgruntled glare before sitting down beside him.
"Evander, eat." Juliana picked up her chopsticks. Since Evander was dressed modestly and had shared numerous medical conversations with her while waiting for Sophia, Juliana regarded him as an ordinary young man and was not overly formal in manners and discussions.
"Thank you, Auntie." Evander also picked up his chopsticks. Beside him, Sophia secretly rolled her eyes in disdain, already pouting as she started stuffing food into her mouth.
"Sophia, it’s Evander’s first time at our home, you should help him with the food!" Juliana reproached with disapproval from across the table.
"He’s not missing hands!" Sophia grumbled unhappily, holding her rice bowl with one hand and using the other to pick up food, she started eating heartily. Just as Juliana was about to scold her daughter again, Evander spoke first, smiling as he placed a piece of fish into Sophia’s bowl.
"Auntie, please don’t blame Sophia, she worked overtime for so long, she must be hungry."
Sophia was about to say something in retort when across the table, Juliana sighed and ladled a small bowl of soup, "Evander, it’s good that you understand. If it were another boyfriend, they might not be pleased."
"It’s how it should be. I’m older than her, so I should be more understanding." Evander turned his charming face to look at the unhappy foodie beside him, his gaze full of affection, which Juliana noticed, making her even happier.
A girl, no matter how successful or high-earning her job, is better off marrying a good man.
Originally, Sophia had no intention of revealing the truth, thinking she would explain to her mother after this scumbag left. But she couldn’t stand how this scumbag continued acting for her mother, finally speaking up with a face full of grievance. "Mom, don’t listen to his nonsense; he is not my boyfriend at all!" At most, he’s just a fling. And not even one she consented to.
Sophia thought her mother would be shocked or at least surprised, but as soon as she finished speaking, Juliana reprimanded her with displeasure, "What are you talking about, child? If Evander’s not your boyfriend, who is? If he hadn’t come over today, how long did you plan to keep it a secret? You even threatened him not to come over or disclose your relationship. Sophia, what are you thinking?"
Sophia...
Suddenly felt a sense of frustration that she couldn’t articulate.
What hiding? They weren’t even dating in the first place!
