Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1152 - 1147: Meeting the Mother-in-Law
Standing in front of her house, Sophia Hamilton could already hear her mother’s voice through the door. She sounded enthusiastic and happy, as if she was talking to someone.
As soon as Sophia opened the door, she asked with a smile, "Mom, who are you chatting with that’s making you so high..." She stopped suddenly upon seeing the man sitting on the sofa. The last word got stuck in her throat, and the smile on her face gradually faded.
Evander Lancaster was sitting in a corner of the sofa. He turned his head to look at her, his hands resting casually on his knees in a relaxed and humble manner.
"Sophia, you’re back."
Juliana Lancaster got up from the sofa and walked over. "Evander just said that you wouldn’t be home until nine."
Sophia...
This bastard has gotten so familiar with my mom? Mom just calls him "Evander"?
She chuckled lightly, shrugged off her shoulder bag, and handed it to her mother. As she leaned against the shoe cabinet to take off her snow boots, she said perfunctorily, "I had to work overtime again today." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Juliana took the bag and walked towards the coat rack. "Evander told me all about it. Your boss is on a business trip, so you and your assistant will be busy for a while."
After hanging the bag on the coat rack, Juliana headed to the kitchen. "Go wash your hands quickly, dinner’s ready. Evander’s been waiting for a long time."
Seeing her mother go out to the balcony, Sophia stood in front of Evander and lowered her voice to ask angrily, "What are you doing here? What did you say to my mom?"
Evander elegantly crossed his legs, his hands one over the other on his knees. He turned his head to look at Sophia, his eyes filled with a clear hint of amusement, and spoke leisurely.
"Of course, I’m here to see my future mother-in-law! As for what I talked about with our mom, you can ask her yourself."
"Shameless! Who’s your mother-in-law? My mom definitely isn’t!" Sophia glared at Evander in displeasure. The smile in his eyes grew stronger, and he raised his eyebrows smugly. "Whether she is or not isn’t for you to decide. It has to come from our mom admitting it herself."
Sophia knew deep down that her mother had surely been won over by this rascal. Just looking at the large stack of gift boxes piled up in the living room was enough to know.
You have to admit he knows how to please elders. Though he’s quite wealthy, he dresses modestly, and the gifts he sends are things the middle class can afford, like calcium tablets and protein powder, all health supplements that elderly people like but are hesitant to spend money on.
With her mother still busy on the balcony, Sophia lowered her voice to urge him, "Get lost! Leave my house right now, or I won’t be nice to you!"
Evander raised his eyebrows again, "I’m a valued guest of our mom. If she comes out and doesn’t see me, you might have trouble explaining."
"Get lost, leave now!" Seeing Evander remain glued to the sofa, Sophia, exasperated, came over to pull his arm.
Evander snuck a glance towards the balcony and, with a swift motion, grabbed Sophia’s wrist and pulled her into his arms.
Sophia let out a small scream but didn’t dare make a loud noise. She found herself falling into Evander’s arms. From the kitchen’s perspective, it looked like the two were being affectionate, with her appearing to willingly fall into his embrace.
Juliana shook her head helplessly, grabbing chopsticks and setting them on the dining table, and called out, "Dinner’s ready, come and eat!"
"You jerk, let go!" Sophia angrily struck Evander’s chest, but he wrapped one arm around her waist and, with the other hand, quickly pecked her lips before helping her up with him.
"What’s with you, child? You haven’t changed yet? Quickly take off your coat and come over," Juliana said as she placed a bowl of rice on the dining table. She glanced up to see Sophia, hand-in-hand with Evander, walking over, pretending to be displeased for a moment.
