Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1140 - 1135: Mom’s Call
Outside the door, Evander Lancaster felt no surprise, as this wasn’t the first time he had come to call someone.
He shook his head with a wry smile and returned to the sofa to sit down. As long as he’s still able to get angry, it means he’s not too upset. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Lighting a cigarette for himself, Evander was still wrapped in a bathrobe, and his wide-open neckline revealed plenty of scratch marks on his chest—Sophia Hamilton’s handiwork.
Leaning against the sofa, even his upturned chin couldn’t hide his inner joy. Earlier, he had done it twice and didn’t feel tired at all; on the contrary, he was still somewhat unsatisfied.
That feeling was truly wonderful, far more amazing than anything he had experienced before.
He felt very fortunate because... it was their first time.
Sophia was really sensitive, trembling several times beneath him.
He took another drag on his cigarette, and as he exhaled the smoke, the corners of his lips lifted slightly.
Faint music started to play, coming from inside the guest room. Evander listened carefully; it turned out to be a phone ringing.
He got up and walked towards the guest room, picked up Sophia’s jacket from the floor, held the cigarette between his lips, and squinted to find the phone. Looking at the caller ID, if he remembered correctly, it was Ewan Zimmerman’s number. He slid down the answer key, took a drag on his cigarette, and then spoke as he exhaled the smoke.
"Ewan, tell our brother that Secretary Han is not feeling well and is taking a sick day today." After finishing, without giving Ewan a chance to respond, he hung up the call. He then returned to the living room, placed the sofa on the coffee table, and leaned back on the sofa to continue smoking.
On the other end of the call, Ewan looked at the disconnected phone. If he wasn’t mistaken, it sounded like Dr. Lancaster’s voice. He was puzzled as to why Dr. Lancaster answered Secretary Han’s phone.
Frowning in thought for a few seconds, he couldn’t figure it out, so he shook his head, put away his phone, and went to the CEO’s office door.
"Boss, I just called Secretary Han. She said she’s not feeling well and is taking a sick day today." In the office, when Ewan reported this, he was a bit hesitant because it wasn’t Sophia Hamilton who personally requested leave from him.
Nathan Moore lifted his eyes from the document and looked over, his dark eyes showing no emotion, "Was it Secretary Han herself who said it?"
"No, it was a man who answered for her." Having been Nathan Moore’s assistant for several years, Ewan knew not to speak out of turn, especially since Dr. Lancaster was the CEO’s brother.
"Alright, got it, you can go now." Nathan Moore replied blandly, his handsome face showing no extra emotion. After Ewan left, he shook his head with a smile—he already knew that his little secretary had been won over by the fourth brother.
...
In the apartment, Sophia Hamilton’s phone rang again. Evander Lancaster stubbed the cigarette on his fingertip into the ashtray, picked up the phone, and glanced at the caller ID showing "Mom." A smile curled his lips. Evander walked over to the bathroom door and knocked.
"It’s... a call from our mom..."
Inside the bathroom, Sophia Hamilton looked up at the door, her tightly pressed lips quivering with unmasked grievance.
"I’m going to answer it!" Evander made a move to pick up the call, but Sophia suddenly shouted from inside the bathroom, "Don’t you dare answer!"
"Then hurry up and come out, or I’ll answer it," Evander threatened. If he weren’t worried about scaring his little pepper, he would have used the key to enter already.
Sophia braced herself on the edge of the bathtub to get up, but as soon as she rose, she let out a startled "Ah..." Outside, not knowing what happened, Evander quickly reached into his robe pocket for the key.
