Pushpasura remained silent after Devara’s remark.
"...."
The mocking smile that had been on his face slowly faded as his yellow eyes remained fixed on the young man standing before him.
For several long moments, he didn’t speak. Instead, he simply observed.
He studied Devara carefully.
The calm expression on his face despite everything that had happened.
The casual way he stood in the middle of a battlefield littered with the ashes of an entire legion.
The small smirk that never seemed to leave his lips.
And those bright green eyes...
There was something about them that made Pushpasura uncomfortable.
Not because they were frightening.
But because they reminded him of someone.
An old memory, buried beneath centuries of imprisonment, slowly resurfaced in his mind.
A smiling face.
A calm voice.
Eyes that always carried confidence no matter how hopeless the situation appeared.
A being who never relied solely on brute strength but instead defeated his enemies through patience, intelligence, and carefully woven plans.
Lord Vishnu.
Pushpasura’s expression darkened almost immediately.
"...."
His jaw tightened.
For just a brief moment, he genuinely wondered whether the one standing before him was that infuriating Mayavi himself.
No...
That couldn’t be.
He could clearly sense the difference.
The young man possessed divine energy, but it wasn’t the immeasurable ocean-like aura of Lord Vishnu.
Vishnu’s presence had always been ancient.
Boundless.
Calm enough to silence even the fiercest storms.
The person before him felt different.
Young.
Powerful.
Exceptionally talented.
But still young.
Yet despite knowing they were different people, Pushpasura found himself becoming more and more irritated.
Because every expression...
Every smile...
Every casual reply...
Reminded him of the very god he hated the most.
Then another thought suddenly crossed his mind.
His eyes narrowed.
’Wait... How did this mortal know about my true height?’
His actual body was sealed deep beneath the earth.
What stood before Devara now was merely a possessed vessel.
There was no reason for anyone to know what his real body looked like.
Not unless...
Pushpasura dismissed the thought before it could continue.
No.
Impossible.
It had to be coincidence.
Still...
The comment refused to leave his mind.
For an ancient Asura who had once challenged the heavens themselves, being mocked over something so trivial should have meant nothing.
Yet somehow...
It annoyed him far more than losing his entire legion.
The more he thought about it, the more irritated he became.
Finally, he let out a cold laugh.
"So..."
His doubled voice echoed strangely through the clearing.
"I will say once again... That... I’ve changed my mind."
Devara simply folded his arms and waited.
"I was originally planning to kill you quickly."
Pushpasura’s smile widened.
"But now..."
"No."
"Death would be far too merciful."
His yellow eyes gleamed with cruelty.
"When I regain my true body..."
"I’ll make sure you’re still breathing."
"I’ll shatter every bone in your body."
The surviving cultist standing beside him immediately nodded repeatedly, looking as though he completely approved of every word his god spoke.
Meanwhile, Devara quietly listened without interrupting.
When Pushpasura finally finished, Devara remained silent for another few seconds.
Then he scratched the side of his cheek thoughtfully.
"You really took that height comment personally."
Pushpasura’s eyelid twitched.
"I was only joking."
Another twitch.
"If I had known it would upset you this much..."
Devara smiled innocently.
"...I would’ve chosen a different joke."
The second twitch was even more noticeable.
The surviving cultist slowly closed his eyes.
He had absolutely no desire to witness what was about to happen.
Pushpasura stared at Devara.
For several long seconds.
His expression became completely blank.
Then, very slowly, he spoke through clenched teeth.
"You..."
"...are far more irritating than Vishnu."
Devara blinked.
"Really?"
He looked genuinely surprised.
"I’ll take that as praise."
For a brief moment, Pushpasura simply forgot what he wanted to say next.
He had spent countless centuries dreaming of his revenge against the gods.
He had imagined terrifying conversations.
Declarations of war.
Threats.
Never...
Not even once...
Had he imagined himself standing in the middle of a flower forest arguing with a mortal over a joke.
Realizing how ridiculous the situation had become, Pushpasura let out a slow breath and forced himself to calm down.
"No matter."
His expression regained its arrogance.
"The vessel cannot maintain my presence much longer."
He looked directly into Devara’s eyes.
"You’ve earned my attention."
"You should consider that an honor."
Devara tilted his head slightly.
"I was hoping for something more useful."
Pushpasura frowned.
"What?"
"The location of your prison."
For the first time since the possession began...
Pushpasura laughed genuinely.
The laughter echoed throughout the ruined flower field.
"You intend to seek me out?"
"I do."
The answer came without even a second of hesitation.
The Asura stopped laughing.
He searched Devara’s face, expecting to find doubt.
Instead, he found complete sincerity.
"You actually plan on coming to me?"
Devara nodded calmly.
"It’ll save me the trouble of waiting for you to escape."
A dangerous smile slowly spread across Pushpasura’s face.
"Good."
"I welcome that decision."
"When you finally stand before my true body..."
"...you’ll understand the difference between defeating a handful of servants..."
"...and standing before the one who once made even the King of Heaven tremble."
The yellow glow inside the cultist’s eyes suddenly flickered.
The connection had reached its limit.
Pushpasura could feel the vessel collapsing.
Before the possession ended completely, he gave Devara one final look.
"Don’t disappoint me."
The next instant, the yellow light disappeared.
The dark veins around the cultist’s eyes faded away.
His body went limp and collapsed face-first onto the ground.
The connection had been severed.
Silence returned to the clearing.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Devara looked at the unconscious man for a few moments before letting out a quiet sigh.
"He certainly enjoys talking."
Far away from the mortal realm, beyond the skies where the Devas resided, lay the eternal abode of Lord Vishnu.
Vaikuntha1 stood untouched by time.
Its magnificent golden walls stretched farther than the eye could see, their surfaces decorated with divine carvings that seemed to come alive whenever light touched them.
Endless lotus ponds surrounded the celestial city, their fragrance carried by a gentle breeze that never ceased.
The air itself radiated peace, washing away fatigue and worry from anyone fortunate enough to enter its sacred boundaries.
Standing before the enormous entrance were the two eternal guardians of the realm.
Jaya and Vijaya.
Both stood silently beside the massive golden gates, each holding a mighty mace that had witnessed countless ages pass before them.
Their duty had remained unchanged since time immemorial.
No one entered Vaikuntha without Lord Vishnu’s permission.
Not even the King of Heaven himself.
Moments later, a brilliant stream of divine light descended before the gates.
One after another, the gods appeared.
Indra.
Deva Guru Brihaspati.
Sage Narada.
Goddess Ganga.
Goddess Bhudevi.
Surya Deva.
Shani Deva.
Yamuna.
Sandhya.
Chhaya.
Along with many other celestial beings who had accompanied Indra from Amaravati.
Usually, arriving at Vaikuntha was a joyous occasion.
The gods would admire the beauty of the eternal realm before requesting an audience.
Today was different.
No one admired the scenery.
No one spoke.
Their expressions were filled with concern.
The urgency of the situation weighed heavily upon every one of them.
Before they could take another step, Jaya raised one hand.
The simple gesture was enough to stop the entire assembly.
"...."
"...."
"...."
"Forgive us,"
He said respectfully,
"but no one may enter without Lord Vishnu’s permission."
Vijaya looked over the gathered gods with mild curiosity.
"It is rare to see so many of the celestial court arrive together."
"What matter has brought the entire assembly here?"
Indra didn’t waste a single moment.
Stepping forward, he folded his hands respectfully.
The usual pride of the King of Heaven was nowhere to be seen.
There was only urgency.
"We are here for a very important matter."
His voice carried genuine concern.
"We request an immediate audience with Lord Vishnu."
"The matter concerns not only Swarga..."
"...but all the realms."
"We fear an ancient danger is beginning to awaken."
"If we delay any longer..."
"...the consequences may be beyond even our ability to contain."
Jaya and Vijaya exchanged a brief glance.
Neither spoke. Neither moved.
"...."
"...."
"...."
For a few silent moments, the gates remained closed.
Then...
Within their minds, they heard a voice.
Gentle. Calm. Peaceful.
Yet carrying an authority that needed no explanation.
"Let them enter."
The two guardians smiled knowingly.
Without another word, they stepped aside.
The enormous golden gates of Vaikuntha slowly began to open.
A warm golden radiance poured through the entrance, bathing the entire assembly in divine light.
Lord Vishnu...
Had already been expecting them.
The enormous golden gates of Vaikuntha slowly opened, revealing a realm that words could scarcely describe.
A warm golden radiance flowed through the entrance, gently washing over every god who stood before it.
The moment they stepped across the threshold, the worries that had burdened their minds felt lighter, while the divine atmosphere itself seemed to calm even the most restless thoughts.
Indra led the assembly forward.
Behind him walked Deva Guru Brihaspati, Sage Narada, Goddess Ganga, Goddess Bhudevi, Surya Deva, Shani Deva, Goddess Yamuna, Sandhya, Chhaya, and the other celestial beings followed him.
They passed through one magnificent courtyard after another.
Crystal rivers flowed peacefully beside pathways paved with precious stones that glowed softly beneath their feet.
Endless lotus ponds stretched into the distance, every flower blooming with an ethereal light.
Divine birds with shimmering feathers flew freely through the skies, their melodious songs blending with the gentle sound of flowing water.
Normally, many among the gods would pause to admire the beauty of Vaikuntha.
Even after countless visits, the realm never failed to amaze them.
Today...
Not a single one spared it more than a passing glance.
Their minds remained occupied by a single thought.
Pushpasura.
They continued walking until they reached the innermost palace.
Another pair of enormous doors opened silently before them.
As the assembly entered the final chamber, every god instinctively lowered their gaze with reverence.
The hall itself seemed endless.
Golden pillars reached so high that their tops disappeared among clouds of divine light.
Countless celestial lamps floated in the air without any visible support, illuminating the chamber with a soft glow that neither hurt the eyes nor cast shadows.
At the center of that magnificent hall rested the eternal couch of Lord Vishnu.
Adishesha...
The king of serpents.
His colossal body coiled gracefully beneath his Lord, forming a divine bed unlike anything found in any of the three worlds.
His countless hoods spread majestically overhead like a living canopy, each jeweled crown shining brighter than the finest stars.
Although only a portion of his immeasurable form was visible inside the palace, everyone present knew that the great serpent’s true body extended far beyond the palace itself, embracing the entirety of Vaikuntha.
Upon that sacred couch reclined Lord Vishnu.
One arm rested comfortably beneath his head while the other lay casually across his side.
His expression carried the same serene smile that had remained unchanged since the beginning of creation.
There wasn’t the slightest trace of worry on his face.
It was almost as though nothing in existence could disturb the calmness surrounding him.
Seated beside him was Goddess Lakshmi.
Radiant as ever.
She looked toward the arriving gods with a gentle smile, her eyes showing neither surprise nor curiosity.
It was evident that both she and Lord Vishnu had already expected their arrival.
The entire assembly immediately folded their hands.
Indra stepped forward first.
"Pranams1, Lord Narayana."
The rest of the gods followed together.
"Pranams1, Lord Narayana."
"Pranams1, Goddess Mahalakshmi."
Their voices echoed respectfully throughout the vast chamber.
Lord Vishnu smiled warmly.
"Rise."
His voice was calm.
Gentle.
Yet it effortlessly reached every corner of the hall.
The gods slowly straightened themselves.
For a few moments, silence prevailed.
Then Lord Vishnu’s gaze settled upon Indra.
His smile remained unchanged.
"Indra..."
"What brings the King of Heaven to Vaikuntha with almost the entire celestial assembly?"
The question was asked so naturally that anyone unfamiliar with Lord Vishnu would have thought he truly didn’t know.
Indra, however, understood better.
Nothing of significance escaped the Lord’s notice.
He respectfully folded his hands once more.
"My Lord..."
"I believe You already know why we have come."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"Pushpasura’s seal is weakening."
"The signs have already begun appearing in the mortal realm."
"The ancient rituals performed by his followers have resumed."
"According to Deva Guru Brihaspati’s reading of the stars..."
"...his awakening is no longer a distant possibility."
"It is becoming inevitable."
The atmosphere inside the hall grew noticeably heavier.
Even though everyone present already knew the situation, speaking those words aloud made the threat feel much more real.
Indra continued.
"The last time Pushpasura threatened the realms..."
"...even the combined strength of the Devas failed to stop him."
"We fought with everything we possessed."
"But no matter how many times we defeated him..."
"...he returned."
"It was only after Your intervention..."
"...and the strategy You devised..."
"...that he was finally imprisoned beneath the sacred flower forest."
A shadow crossed Indra’s face as memories of that ancient war resurfaced.
"If he breaks free again.. ..the three worlds will once more descend into chaos."
Deva Guru Brihaspati stepped forward.
"My Lord."
"The stars have revealed something else."
"The fate of Pushpasura no longer rests in the hands of the gods."
"A mortal... has become the turning point of this destiny."
He looked respectfully toward Lord Vishnu.
"That mortal ...is Devaratha."
The hall became quiet once more.
Goddess Lakshmi listened silently.
"...."
There wasn’t even a hint of surprise on her beautiful face.
She already knew.
Lord Vishnu had explained everything to her long before the gods had arrived.
She knew why Devara had crossed paths with Pushpasura.
She knew why destiny had chosen their son for this task.
Even so...
Hearing Indra himself speak those words was still an interesting sight.
