Chapter 248: Did she sense it?

Very quickly, the whole group finished preparing. Carrying their gifts, they boarded a shuttle and set off for the hospital.

By the time they arrived, the moment they stepped off, they spotted a familiar face.

"Sylas?" Jasper frowned slightly as he looked into the distance. "What is he doing here? This is a hospital that specifically admits pregnant females."

Standing beside Sylas was a woman.

She wasn’t very tall—petite and delicately built—but her figure was gracefully curved in all the right places.

Her features were exquisitely refined. Beautiful in a way that felt almost... deliberate. As if every line of her face had been carved with perfect precision—no more, no less.

At that moment, she tilted her head up slightly, a soft, gentle smile resting on her lips as she spoke to Sylas in a quiet voice.

Sunlight poured over her, wrapping her in a warm, downy glow, making her seem harmless.

Rory watched the two of them, her voice low.

"Do you think... the female beside Sylas... is that human female?"

Vincent studied them for a moment, then nodded.

"Jasper said they’ve already bonded. With how close they are... she should be his Female Master. That human female."

Males only showed that kind of intimacy to their own female.

Nix tilted his head. "Want me to go over and say hello? Maybe test the waters? Sylas placed an order at my lab before—we’re acquainted. It wouldn’t be strange."

Xarion glanced at him and shook his head. "You... better not."

Nix simply shrugged.

Rory’s gaze lingered briefly on the woman. Whether she truly was human or not—Rory couldn’t say. But one thing was certain. She was undeniably beautiful.

Not the kind of beauty that overwhelmed, but the kind that felt meticulously refined.

Noticing Rory’s attention, Yuel thought for a moment before speaking softly, "Rory... do you want to go greet her? You’re both human. Maybe you’d like to meet someone like yourself."

Rory only looked for a few seconds longer before withdrawing her gaze.

She shook her head.

"No. I don’t know her."

And more importantly, she had no intention of getting involved with Sylas’s Female Master.

She turned to the others. "Let’s go inside. My friend is still waiting for us."

Just as she spoke and was about to leave, Sylas, who had been speaking quietly with his Female Master, suddenly turned his head.

And looked straight toward them.

Sylas froze for a brief moment when he saw Rory. Then, without hesitation, he took the female beside him by the hand and strode straight toward them.

"Rory," he greeted first, his tone carrying a faint, deliberate distance. "It’s been a while."

He paused, then added, "I’ve remembered what happened before. Thank you for saving me back in Veridan City."

His words stunned not only Rory, but also Jasper, Vincent, and the others.

He had drunk Jasper’s venom and still regained his memories? Hadn’t Jasper said his snake venom had no antidote? That once memories were erased, they would never return?

Then how had Sylas done it?

Rory’s thoughts raced, but her expression shifted into carefully crafted shock.

"What are you talking about? You mean... you forgot that I saved you in Veridan City?"

Sylas frowned slightly. "You didn’t know?"

He studied her expression closely.

Had she really been kept in the dark by Jasper all this time?

"Your partner—Jasper—fed me his venom," Sylas said, his voice steady but cold. "It erased every memory I had of you."

"When did that happen?" Rory looked even more stunned. "How could I not know about something like that?"

As she spoke, she turned sharply toward Jasper. "Jasper, is what he is saying true? Did you really erase his memory?"

In truth, Jasper had already told Rory everything before.

Her performance now was deliberate—it was a test.

How much did Sylas actually remember? Did it include the matter of the divine fire? Or only the part where she had saved him?

Jasper took one look at her expression and immediately understood.

She was probing him.

"Rory, I’ve been wronged," he said at once, his tone almost aggrieved. "I’ve never fed Sylas my venom. He’s talking nonsense."

Sylas’s face darkened instantly. He hadn’t expected this snake to deny it outright—so shamelessly.

"You dare deny it?" he snapped. "Are you even a man? In front of your Female Master, you won’t even admit what you’ve done?"

His voice dripped with contempt.

Jasper let out a soft, almost amused laugh. "Sylas, you claim I poisoned you? Then tell me—where, when, and how did I do it?"

"You—" Sylas faltered. He actually had no answer.

What he remembered clearly was that Rory had once saved him. And that, due to a misunderstanding, their match had been dissolved.

But beyond that... everything else remained frustratingly incomplete.

Sylas’s memory of being fed Jasper’s venom remained frustratingly hazy—no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t piece it together.

Where had it happened? Why had Jasper done it?

Those answers eluded him completely.

Watching him fall silent, Jasper let out a mocking laugh.

"What’s wrong? Can’t answer? You can’t even fabricate a proper time and place, and yet you dare come here and slander me in front of my Female Master?"

Sylas’s expression darkened with anger. He was telling the truth—yet somehow, the situation had been twisted against him.

"Jasper," he said through clenched teeth, "whether I’m slandering you or not—you know the truth yourself."

He clearly couldn’t win a verbal battle against this cunning snake.

So he turned back to Rory. "Rory, even if I can’t remember where or why he poisoned me... I swear to the Beast God—every word I’ve said is true."

Rory understood immediately. He had only recovered fragments. The matter of the divine fire—he hadn’t remembered it at all.

That realization put her at ease.

After all, the fact that she had saved him—and that they had dissolved their match—was never a secret.

There was nothing dangerous in him recalling that much.

"I understand," she said calmly. "I’ll look into it when I return. If Jasper truly did something wrong, I’ll make sure he’s punished."

Sylas gave a cold snort in Jasper’s direction at that.

Then, his tone shifted as he spoke again. "But there’s no need. Yes, he erased my memory—but in doing so, I gained something better. I met my Female Master... Bree."

As he spoke, his gaze softened completely. He turned toward the petite woman beside him, his eyes filled with unmistakable warmth.

"My Female Master is gentle and kind. I love her deeply. I’m actually grateful now... that I ended our match so early. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to bond with her so smoothly."

He reached out, cupping Bree’s small face in his hands. His thumbs brushed lightly over her cheeks, his touch tender, reverent.

His voice dropped—low, husky, filled with emotion. "Bree... meeting you is the greatest fortune of my life. Your presence is like light... illuminating my entire world."

The sudden confession caught Rory—and Yuel, Vincent, and the others—completely off guard.

But Sylas didn’t care. His voice grew softer still.

"Your gentleness... your kindness... they’ve captivated me completely. They made me understand what warmth truly is."

He leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.

"So I’m grateful that part of my past was erased. Because it allowed me to see clearly—who is truly meant for me. Who is the treasure I, Sylas Ruan, would protect for the rest of my life."

Rory blinked.

Just moments ago, they had been discussing erased memories... So how... did this suddenly turn into a full confession of love?

Sylas’s heartfelt confession seemed to freeze the very air.

But as Rory watched him—so earnest, so immersed in his own emotions—she felt... nothing.

Not even a ripple.

Instead, she was quietly, profoundly relieved that she had decisively ended their match back then.

"Female Master..." Xarion’s sluggish voice drifted from behind her, his expression utterly unimpressed. "This bird’s got something wrong with his head. Let’s not bother with him. Let’s go."

Really—was something wrong with this guy?

Jasper poisoned him, and instead of settling scores, he stopped them just to... perform a confession?

What, was he short on an audience? Did he need spectators to confess properly?

The petite female beside Sylas—Bree—tugged gently at his sleeve.

"Sylas... don’t... don’t say any more," she murmured, her voice soft as a whisper. "I understand how you feel."

A faint blush spread across her delicate face.

Sylas knew she was easily shy. He smiled and nodded. "Alright. I won’t say more."

Bree shot him a bashful, almost playful glance, then turned toward Rory. Her smile was soft, harmless, sweet.

"Hello, Rory. My name is Bree. I’m Sylas’s Female Master. He’s mentioned you before. Please don’t mind what he said earlier—he’s just straightforward by nature. He didn’t mean anything by it."

Her attitude was polite, even gentle. So Rory returned the courtesy with a small smile.

"I don’t mind. I’m here to visit a friend, so I won’t disturb you any further."

With that, she turned to leave with Vincent and the others.

The situation was... unbearably awkward. She had no interest in staying another second.

"Wait." Bree suddenly called out, stopping her.

Rory paused, turning back. "Is there something else?"

Hadn’t everything already been said?

Bree looked at her, her voice soft, almost hesitant. "Rory... could we be friends? I don’t know why, but when I saw you... I felt an instinctive sense of closeness."

The moment those words fell, Vincent, Yuel, and Jasper all tensed almost imperceptibly.

A sense of closeness?

In the interstellar world, different beast races carried vastly different auras.

That kind of "natural affinity" usually came from shared bloodlines... or being of the same kind.

Which meant that this Bree... had she sensed it? That Rory... was the same as her?

That she was... Human.
