I Come to Teach You Cultivation - Chapter 354 - 37: Founders of Great Xia · The First Gonggong (1/3)
"The water calamity of Great Xia?"
Upon hearing Li Boyang’s sudden change of topic, Witch Peng was visibly taken aback.
But he quickly realized, and a look of enlightenment, identical to Li Boyang’s, appeared on his face.
"It seems I’m not the first Great Witch to come to this Hundred Li Mountain Range?"
"I came here for the ’Elixir of Immortality’; what was the other Great Witch’s purpose?"
"Who is the Great Witch you’ve been in contact with?"
"And why did he mention the water calamity of Great Xia to you?"
Without a doubt, Witch Peng is indeed one of the most outstanding Great Witches of Great Xia, with intelligence that ranks among the top tier of this era.
With just a simple conversation, Witch Peng had already grasped Li Boyang’s character.
The fact that he asked about the water calamity of Great Xia at this moment,
indicates that Li Boyang wasn’t making baseless remarks, but rather trying to uncover some information through him.
"Is one of the Nine Tripods, the ’Sea Calming Tripod’, in your possession?"
"To know the whereabouts of the Sea Calming Tripod... the Great Witch you’re in touch with must be Wu Xian!"
As Witch Peng became more certain with his words, he also roughly guessed what Li Boyang wanted to ask.
"That old guy has been deceiving us all along, claiming he doesn’t know the whereabouts of the Nine Tripods, yet he clearly knows the location of the Sea Calming Tripod."
"He wants to use the Sea Calming Tripod to quell the Eastern Sea Disaster but fears that we Great Witches might use the power of the Nine Tripods to annihilate the Gods!"
"I’m now even wondering if it was truly a coincidence that the six of us siblings found the Undying Tripod."
"After all, compared to the other eight tripods, the Undying Tripod has the smallest destructive power and is also the one Wu Xian is most familiar with."
In theory, Witch Peng should be very angry right now.
But feeling disillusioned, he just calmly sorted through his thoughts.
"Wu Xian himself is the best masterpiece of the Undying Tripod, so he must have mastered the means to counter it."
"Therefore, by throwing the Undying Tripod into the mix, he diverted the attention of the other Great Witches. By the time we realized, he had already completely quelled the Eastern Sea Disaster."
Without interrupting Witch Peng’s words, Li Boyang also took this opportunity to understand the internal factions of Great Xia.
It turns out that besides the struggle between the Gods and mortals, there are also ideological differences between the Great Witches.
Wu Xian, Wu Ji, and Wu Luo are obviously the doves among the Spirit Mountain Ten Witches, not advocating for using extreme measures to eradicate the Gods.
The Enlightened Six Witches, led by Witch Peng, might not be as extreme as Wu Yi, but they also do not approve of Wu Xian’s approach.
"You don’t intend to hand over the Sea Calming Tripod to Wu Xian, do you?"
After thoroughly understanding the situation, Witch Peng suddenly asked this question.
"It’s not your turn to question me now, is it?"
Without answering Witch Peng’s question, Li Boyang just slightly raised his eyebrows and said.
"What you’re saying is correct; indeed, I am not in a position to ask such questions right now."
"However, I learned about you before and know you quelled the water calamity of the South Sea."
"You will definitely hand over the Sea Calming Tripod to Wu Xian, even if the Eastern Sea Disaster currently has nothing to do with you."
Speaking calmly, Witch Peng suddenly smiled.
"I don’t know what you’re hesitating about."
"But if understanding the origin of the Eastern Sea Disaster can help you decide to hand over the Sea Calming Tripod, then I’ll share everything without reserve."
This left Li Boyang somewhat astonished.
If he understood correctly, Witch Peng doesn’t seem to be in the same faction as Wu Xian?
"Don’t look at me with such surprise; I’m just making the most reasonable decision."
"I may not agree with Wu Xian’s way of re-seeking the balance between humans and gods, but that’s based on the Great Witches having absolute power."
"That old Wu Xian tricked us by throwing out an Undying Tripod, causing us to miss the best opportunity."
"If the Great Witches continue to deplete themselves internally, it will only be those Gods who gain an advantage."
Pausing slightly, Witch Peng’s calm tone seemed to gain a sense of foresight.
"So, since Wu Xian wants to borrow the Sea Calming Tripod to quell the Eastern Sea Disaster, helping him obtain the Sea Calming Tripod becomes the most correct choice."
...........................
The Gods of the East, South, West, and North Seas each have their origins.
For Great Xia, the East Sea God is particularly special.
Because the East Sea God·Yu Guo was originally a God of Great Xia, a powerful Water God active since the times of the first Witch King.
Despite the common perception that Gods are brutal, aloof, and self-reliant,
especially those Ancient Gods born in the Primitive Era, who hardly regard ordinary beings.
Even common Gods, in the eyes of those Ancient Gods, are merely slightly stronger ants.
However, exceptions exist, and even thousands of years ago during the Primitive Era, there were truly benevolent and compassionate Gods.
Yu Guo was one of them, a God who helped establish Great Xia alongside the first Witch King.
Mastering mountains and rivers, he single-handedly quelled the water calamities of various Fang Kingdoms within Great Xia.
Thus, after Great Xia’s establishment, Yu Guo was entrusted by the first Witch King with the responsibility of overseeing countless river systems and monitoring all Water Gods—namely, the Gonggong Clan.
Indeed, for better integration into Great Xia, Yu Guo decided to learn from the first Witch King and humans by adopting a personal surname.
Yu Guo was the first Gonggong, the Water God among Water Gods.
Many later speculated whether Yu Guo was indeed an Innate God or an Ancestor God born among humans.
Similar to today’s Great Witches who, knowing their life is nearing an end, transform into Gods to pursue longevity or power.
Within Great Xia, there are many legends about Yu Guo, but the most infamous are his rebellions and deeds.
Although Yu Guo was a benevolent and compassionate God, his temper was quite explosive.
Apart from the first Witch King, Yu Guo got along with almost none of Great Xia’s founders.
So after the first Witch King relinquished Godhood and chose death shortly thereafter, Yu Guo unsurprisingly left Great Xia, eventually settling in the East Sea.
According to some dubious and unofficial sources within Great Xia,
Yu Guo was actually forced to leave after failing to secure the position of Common Lord.
In a way, the delicate relationship between Great Xia Gods and the Witch King owes much to Yu Guo.
When the Great Xia Gods were weak, Yu Guo was their support, maintaining the balance between humans and Gods.
When the Witch King’s lineage faced challenges and Great Xia lost its states, it was Yu Guo who restrained those Gods looking to annihilate them until a new Witch King arose.
One can see the contradiction in Yu Guo’s character and actions from here.
He is a God, thus instinctively siding with the deities.
But he was also the follower and peer of the first Witch King, staunchly wanting to establish an era of human-god coexistence.
This resulted in Yu Guo’s awkward position within Great Xia,
acting as a balancer between humans and Gods, a judge of sorts.
When one side was at a disadvantage, they would seek Yu Guo’s help first.
Yet once in a dominant position, how to deal with a powerful Celestial God became a matter of concern.
