I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 332 - 275: Parasitic Soul Egg
Su Ze had several theories about the origin of the foreign object in his soul:
First, it came from his transmigration.
Second, it came from his "Divine Grace of Evolution" skill, which would mean it was related to the Bloodline Crystal.
Third, it came from the Divine Dice.
Fourth, it came from the Pope of the Evolution Divine Teachings; he might have fallen victim to one of the Pope’s ploys without realizing it.
These were the theories Su Ze considered most likely. There were many others he had already dismissed as less probable.
Since he hadn’t gotten an answer from Liou Wenxin, there weren’t many people left whom Su Ze could trust and consult. The Oasis Mother Tree was definitely one, and besides her, there was Chen Suifeng.
Although Chen Suifeng might not know as much about evolution as Liou Wenxin, his high position meant he was worldly and well-informed. He might know something.
As for the Mother Tree, Su Ze called Ju Han and asked her to inquire about the foreign object in his soul.
He didn’t have to wait long for the Mother Tree’s reply.
The mention of a foreign object in a soul reminded the Mother Tree of a strange aberrant beast from the starry cosmos.
It was a rare aberrant beast known as the "Soul Centipede." They were formless and insubstantial, beings of pure Soul Element. What made them infamous throughout the universe was their terrifying skill: "Parasitic Soul Egg."
A Soul Centipede could lay an egg in an enemy’s soul, be reborn from that egg, and parasitize the enemy’s soul.
A chill ran down Su Ze’s spine. He wasn’t sure if the thing in his soul was really one of these so-called Parasitic Soul Eggs.
But its rice-grain shape did bear some resemblance to an egg.
’If it really is a Parasitic Soul Egg, then where did it come from?’
Su Ze suppressed his fear and began to think.
According to the Mother Tree, the Soul Centipede was an aberrant beast that was extremely rare even in the cosmos, and it was a divine-level one at that. Therefore, it was impossible for a Soul Centipede to appear on Blue Star.
That meant it had to be the work of an intelligent life-form that had mastered the "Parasitic Soul Egg" skill. And since Soul Centipedes didn’t exist on Blue Star, humans from Blue Star naturally couldn’t have mastered that skill either.
This narrowed the scope down to the "alien" population.
Only aliens from the cosmos could possibly have mastered the "Parasitic Soul Egg" skill.
As for the aliens on Blue Star, Su Ze knew of and had come into contact with two factions: one was the group associated with the Oasis Mother Tree, and the other was the line of purple-skinned people originating from the Divine Dice.
If the Mother Tree had done it, she would have had no reason to tell him about Soul Centipedes.
The answer, therefore, was practically screaming at him. It was the work of one of the people whose bodies had been taken over by the purple-skinned aliens, or he had been afflicted during the trials of the Divine Dice.
Of course, all this speculation was predicated on the assumption that the foreign object in his soul was, in fact, a Parasitic Soul Egg.
Su Ze then asked the Mother Tree how he could remove the Parasitic Soul Egg from his soul.
The Mother Tree told him that as long as the egg hadn’t hatched, his only option was to find a divine-level psychic-type evolver to help remove it.
After the egg hatched, it could be destroyed with a powerful psychic attack, but the window of opportunity was fleeting. Once the egg hatched, it would rapidly parasitize his soul.
Once the parasitization was complete, he would become the other party’s puppet. At that point, the only way to destroy the parasitic consciousness that hatched from the egg would be mutual destruction.
In other words, the parasitic consciousness could only be destroyed by destroying Su Ze’s soul.
When the host dies, the parasite naturally cannot survive either.
"How long until the egg hatches?" Su Ze asked Ju Han on the other end of the line.
After a moment, Ju Han replied, "The Mother Tree says it can be hatched at any time, according to the will of the one who cast the skill."
"So you’re saying I could be parasitized at any moment?"
Su Ze’s heart sank. The situation was even worse than he had imagined.
"Not exactly. The person who cast the skill must be near you to control the egg’s hatching. Besides, the fact that they planted the egg in your soul but haven’t hatched it yet clearly means they’re waiting for something..."
’Waiting for what? To fatten me up before the slaughter?’
Su Ze took a deep breath and reined in his emotions. It seemed that if he wanted to live a long life, he would have to go into hiding and avoid anyone who could possibly be possessed by an alien.
’But can I really hide from them?’
’The egg probably has a ’tracking’ function, allowing them to sense my location at any time.’
’If I can’t hide, then my only option is to fight back.’
’Since I haven’t been parasitized yet, it means the time isn’t right in their eyes. I’m safe for now...’
’I can’t just sit here and wait for death. I have to do something.’
After ending the call with Ju Han, Su Ze didn’t immediately phone Chen Suifeng. He planned to make a personal trip to Lin Hua Country and speak with Chen Suifeng face-to-face.
Ever since he learned about the Bloodline Crystal issue from the Mother Tree, the fact that the ruler of Lin Hua Country and many of its high-ranking officials had been possessed by aliens was basically a confirmed fact.
Su Ze still hadn’t told Chen Suifeng any of this, as discussing it over the phone was too risky.
He planned to tell Chen Suifeng the news in person and, at the same time, ask if he knew anything about foreign objects in the soul.
’The Lin Family has also been inviting me to visit. I might as well pay them a visit on this trip, too.’
The visit was secondary. The Lin Family was an old and great family with a long heritage and profound resources. Who knew how many treasures they had collected?
Su Ze’s trip was also an opportunity to make a deal with the Lin Family and purchase some materials to strengthen and upgrade his skills.
He had a total of eight Tier 3 skills, but he had only upgraded three of them so far. For the remaining five, he had already exhausted his channels with Evolutionary Technology and the Dongli Kingdom. If he wanted to upgrade the rest of his skills quickly, he would have to find another way.
