Hold On Mr.! Your Sweetheart is a Real Queen - Chapter 580: Do I also have to be like him, making me wait a lifetime?
If he wasn’t dead, if he had already woken up, if he was gradually getting better...
He couldn’t possibly not reach out to her.
Some might think that what she said was too arrogant, what could she mean to Edward Stephens? But she just knew, Edward wouldn’t leave her alone, no matter what.
She understood more than anyone imagined the weight she held in that man’s heart.
He wouldn’t let her down, if there was a chance, he would certainly come looking for her.
Thinking this way, her heart ached more, she couldn’t continue thinking about it.
She fell into a daze and slept, even waking up from a nightmare in the middle of the night. She dreamt that Ryan Smith called, telling her Edward Stephens had actually passed away three months ago, saying he was not in danger just to keep her from despairing, deliberately deceiving her.
The nightmare was too real.
When she woke up, her whole body was cold, her heart beating fiercely in the dark, as if she was soaked in icy water.
Dreams are just reflections of subconsciousness.
They are the subconscious guesses she dared not think about.
Upon waking up, she didn’t dare to sleep again.
In the darkness, she listened to the quiet sound of snowflakes falling outside the window, feeling as if her soul was gradually freezing in this cold winter night.
How long do you want me to wait, Edward Stephens?
Are you also going to be like him, making me wait a lifetime?
*
This snow fell for three whole days and nights.
It was the largest snow in Banyan City in more than fifty years.
It wasn’t a good thing, the TV news was filled with disasters the snow brought, reports of electrical lines breaking and causing outages, elderly people trapped at home by snow blocking their doors, even Daisy Ginger’s fridge was running out of food, forcing her to brave waist-deep snow to go to a nearby supermarket to buy food for tonight.
With central heating turned on, it was still very warm inside, Daisy Ginger fully geared up, wearing a white hat and scarf, said to Erin on the sofa, "Erin, Mom is going out for a bit."
Erin immediately raised her hand, "I want to go too!"
"No way." Daisy Ginger zipped up her down jacket, "It’s all snow outside, the road is too slippery, you’ll fall."
Erin wasn’t being spoiled, obediently running over to let Daisy bend down, giving her a kiss on the face, "Then come back early, okay?"
Daisy took off her gloves and pinched his face with a smile, "I’ll buy you your favorite luncheon meat. Be good at home, if a stranger rings the doorbell, don’t open the door, understand?"
"Got it." Little Erin nodded.
Taking a deep breath, Daisy bravely opened the door, despite being fully armed, the cold air outside still made her shiver, she quickly shielded Erin behind her, and then swiftly closed the door.
Because it’s a high-end community, her area was much better off than what was shown on TV, the waist-high snow at the entrance had been cleared by snowplows, but the road was all iced over, too slippery, it took her a whole half-hour to walk the 200 meters from her door to the community gate.
The community had a supermarket, which was also crowded at this moment, full of nannies from the community buying groceries, Daisy was picking through the crowd, buying luncheon meat, and also picked up some semi-finished vegetables, even taking a cookbook along.
With the snow, the hourly worker also took leave, Daisy wasn’t good at cooking, apart from making hot pot and sandwiches, she’s only good at instant noodles.
But she couldn’t let Little Erin, a kid, just eat instant noodles with her.
Daisy decided to take advantage of these days when she couldn’t go out to develop some skills, like cooking.
Buying two days’ worth of groceries, Daisy walked home slowly, carrying a plastic bag.
She kept her head down, walking cautiously, almost reaching the doorway when she heard a clear male voice calling her, "Daisy Ginger."
Daisy was slightly stunned, seeing a young man with his hands in his pockets, wearing a black down jacket and boots at the doorway, and hesitated for a moment.
"Ryan Smith?" Daisy instinctively walked forward, but the snowy road was slippery, she hadn’t walked a few steps when her feet began to slide, Ryan rushed forward to help her, but both were dragged down by Daisy, landing on the ground.
"Mommy!"
Erin’s voice called from the doorway.
Daisy was wearing a lot, so she wasn’t hurt, but the apples she bought rolled far away, she struggled to raise her head, saying to Erin who wanted to run over, "Don’t come, it’s too slippery, you’ll fall!"
Ryan struggled to get up but didn’t manage to, simply sitting on the ground, he had bumped his forehead and said helplessly, "Your son refuses to let me in."
Daisy looked at him, moved her lips but still didn’t ask anything, she just stood up, picked up all the apples, and said to Ryan, "Let’s go inside and talk."
It’s cold, minus four or five degrees, even fully armed, Daisy’s hands and feet were numb from the cold.
Ryan was shivering, following closely behind her.
"Here you go."
Daisy handed him a cup of hot water.
Ryan took the glass, his frozen hands and feet gradually thawing in the warm air conditioned room, he sipped water while curiously observing the little guy standing next to Daisy.
He knew Daisy had a son, but he always thought the boy was with her "cheap husband," never interested, he hadn’t even seen a photo.
At this moment, the little guy was standing next to Daisy, looking at him with a pair of dark and cool eyes, expressionless yet extremely alert, emitting the word "vigilant" from head to toe.
He squatted down to tease him, "Little one, why didn’t you open the door for me earlier? You’re so bad, are you trying to freeze me to death, hmm?"
Daisy stepped forward to block Ryan, "Don’t tease him."
Ryan stood up, exaggeratedly saying, "I almost froze to death at your doorstep just now, you have no idea how hard-hearted your little guy is, no matter how pitifully I called, he wouldn’t open the door for me."
Daisy glanced at him, turned around, lifted her hand to touch Erin’s little head, and praised, "Baby, you did great!"
"..." Ryan. "Hey!"
"I taught him." Daisy glared at him, "We can’t let weird uncles like you in, what’s wrong with that?"
Ryan touched his handsome face, "I look so handsome, how could I possibly be a weird uncle?"
Daisy snorted, "Creepy."
She went to the kitchen, washed and cut some apples, then brought them out.
Erin was sitting on the sofa, playing games, Ryan, for some reason, was sticking around him, curiously staring at him, and Little Erin’s expression was visibly dark.
It was the first time she’d seen Erin show such obvious dislike, Daisy found it somewhat amusing.
She put the apples on the coffee table, walked over, and said to Ryan, "Have you eaten yet?"
"I came over right after getting off the car, with such heavy snow in your city, all the restaurants are closed, where would I have a chance to eat?"
Daisy sat down, a little puzzled, "Where did you arrive from? Are there still international flights now?"
"I went to Tsing City to see Elena," Ryan said, "came over by high-speed train." He crossed his legs, biting into an apple, appearing a bit smug, cheerfully asking, "What, Elena didn’t tell you? Haha."
Daisy frowned, "Weren’t you in the United States?" How did you end up in Tsing City?
