Chapter 89: Gavin’s secret.

Chalice.

Everyone’s changed. And it’s not in the ’they got busy’ or ’they were now more attentive to me’ kind of change. Now, it felt like they were all actively drifting away from me.

And I hated it.

With every fiber of my being.

I also hated Leilani now more than ever because I do not need any soothsayer to know that all of these had something to do with her.

And earlier today at Frostclaw, everyone’s reaction to the time she slapped me gave me all the answers I needed. It made me realize that I needed to apply more pressure. To stoke the already burning fire... to punish her more and hit her hard when she least expects.

She had been too calm. Too daring. She dared slap me right in front of everyone and no one touched her. Not even Gavin.

My blood boiled at the thought but just as I was about to shake it off, and probably bury myself in some spicy fast food that could at least match the amount of spice in my chest, the doorbell rang and Kael strutted in looking as though he’d just had the worst evening.

He looked handsome in his three piece suit. His hair, even though looked like it had been run through by his fingers countless times, gleamed under the chandelier. My eyes snagged on his lips for a brief moment, and I wished... hoped that he would kiss me.

Gosh, what I would do to have it sucking on my cunt right now!

His stormy gray eyes met mine as soon as he noticed my presence, but instead of smiling like he always did, he sighed.

"Hey Kael, how did your day go?" I mumbled, even though it’s not been that long since I last saw him.

I draped my hands over his shoulders and leaned in for a kiss. But he was stiff—too stiff. He didn’t kiss me back. I frowned.

"Are you good?"

"Mhm."

"Do you feel better after going for a drive?"

"Mhm."

His generic replies were grating on my nerves, but deciding that I wouldn’t let him annoy me, I sighed and continued; "Have you had lunch? Dinner?"

"I’m not in the mood."

Now, that had me. I stood chest to chest with him, whilst planting my hands on my waist as I looked up at him. Standing like this, I made sure that he had a clear view of my breasts, and I hoped to the heavens and the earth that he would take a peek.

Just one peek.

Just oneeee...

He didn’t. I rolled my eyes. "You don’t look too good. Do you want me to take care of you?"

That finally made him look at me— like really look at me. His deep dark eyes trailed down my face for a moment too long and then coming up to brush a stray strand of hair from my face, he whispered; "You should rest. You aren’t fully recovered yet."

His deep masculine voice and the way his hands skimmed over my skin set my flesh ablaze. I leaned into his touch like a wanton, my eyes fluttering closed as I whispered; "I need you."

"And I need you to get better first."

"But I’m already better." I argued, wanting him to touch me. Missing the way his hands would usually rove my skin like a starving man. Goddess, I miss the way he would fuck me senseless. And I wanted— no, needed— to feel him inside of me right now.

On impulse, my pussy throbbed and I spread my legs wide whilst batting my eyelashes at him. Usually that does the trick, but today, it didn’t. So I changed tactics.

I took his hand in mine, leading him down there until he was brushing against the surface of my clit.

My juices poured out effortlessly, and I wanted him to soak it in. To insert his fingers into me. To fill me... and stretch me the way his cock usually does.

Kael’s eyes glazed for a moment but then he sighed and retrieved his hands. And to my utmost horror, he wiped his fingers clean with a handkerchief.

With a fucking handkerchief!

He didn’t lick my juices off!

My blood boiled in my veins as rage slammed into me, but just before I could voice my frustration, he drawled; "I have something to ask you."

And as soon as those words were spoken, a weird feeling settled in my guts like stone. I shrugged, still feeling the sting from being blatantly rejected by him and snorted; "Ask away."

Without looking back at me, Kael began to walk over to one of the sofas in the living room. He didn’t ask me to sit, he didn’t even spare me another glance as he asked; "What exactly has been happening between you and Leilani?"

That stunned me. But not only that, it rattled me as well. My heart crashed in my chest and my breath hitched as I watched him carefully, and for the first time today, I noticed that he didn’t look so irritated when he called her name. If anything, he looked confused. Tired. Drained.

What the fuck did that bitch say to him?

What the hell has been happening?

Did he... oh, no! He would never meet with her. He hates her.

But I was snapped out of my thoughts when his voice broke through the tense silence. He drawled; "Earlier today, and I’m talking about when you and her got into that altercation; She talked like someone who was hurt. Someone who was tired. She didn’t look at you with hatred. She did with frustration. And she talked like we were all in the wrong and she was right. That felt weird. Do you think we’ve made a mistake?"

When I heard that, I sighed and smiled. Thankfully, she hasn’t said shit yet. He was just speculating like the dumbass that he is.

Slowly, I walked up to him, draped my arms around his shoulders, and ignoring how stiff he was, I buried my face into the crook of his neck and drawled; "Have you forgotten that she’s always like that?"

"But Chalice—" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Have you forgotten how well she lies, even with stack loads of evidence pointing at her? I don’t know how but I think she’s successfully gotten under your skin... and you’re allowing it."

"I’m not." Kael argued but I said nothing, allowing my silence to decide for him.

And then he sighed, shrugged me off and rose to his feet. "I need to take a shower." He muttered, and when I heard that, instead of feeling dejected, my eyes gleamed with excitement.

I gingerly asked; "Do you want me to come along?"

"No." He answered quickly— too quickly, as if trying to get rid of me. A deep frown formed on his face when he regarded me again, he drawled; "And instead of worrying about me, why not go to Gavin? I think his mate doesn’t want him."

My eyes widened in disbelief. I gasped. "Gavin has a mate?"

"Well, yes. I think I heard something like that today."

And then it all began to make sense. Why he was acting differently recently. Why he seemed so lost earlier today.

Kael was still talking when I picked up my things and fled the house, making a run to my parents’ where I barged in to find them all gathered around the dinner table.

And goddess, I missed this.

I missed living with them... eating with them. But if I return, the triplets may become idle enough to be stolen away by Leilani again.

And I didn’t want that.

So I shook away that thought and quickly greeted my parents. My eyes met with Gavin’s over the table, and without thinking my actions through, I blurted; "You have a mate?"

The table instantly went dead silent as everyone turned to look at him.

And Gavin... Well, let’s just say, his face was as red as the tomato on his plate. His lips were frozen in an o-shape and he glared at me like I’d just swam straight out from hell.

And yes, that was my answer.

He definitely has a mate.
