Chapter 284: No one can bring your darling back anymore... Give free rein to your hatred of the world~~

Fortunately, the demonic energy released during this incident and the number of human sacrifices had proven to be far fewer than anticipated.

As a result, the major demons had not been able to cross the threshold of the abysses to devastate the world of mortals. Far weaker entities, but just as insidious, had slipped through the breaches to possess the bodies of compatible mortals. At least that is what the Holy Cathedral thought; at least the demons could not yet come with their true bodies.

Moreover, these events did nothing to attenuate the political earthquake that shook the Empire just a few hours after the devastating offensive against Paragon County.

The news spread like wildfire: the Paragon family had been annihilated.

And official reports stated that there were no survivors. Simultaneously, the authorities designated Katrina Lancaster, daughter of Count Lancaster, as the main person responsible for this massacre. Although she was already deceased, the undeniable traces of residual demonic mana on her remains served as irrefutable proof in the eyes of the Holy Cathedral’s investigators.

...

*Empire of Alexandria... Sky City...*

In her luxurious room located in the sector reserved for Sky City professors, Dyana Donoghan stared into the void. She was sitting on the edge of her bed, her fingers clenched on the sheets. Every time she closed her eyes, she could still feel the touch of Kaiser’s hands on her skin, a sensation that comforted her and her love for him only grew stronger.

"That bitch Seraphina... She plays the prude, but she’s really a viper for seducing Kaiser like that!"

Suddenly... three hurried knocks sounded against her door.

Dyana jumped, her heart skipping a beat. She stood up slowly, readjusting her dress before opening the door. A young messenger, his face pale and his breathing short, stood before her, nervously clutching a sealed letter bearing the Donoghan family seal.

’A letter from Randal!? He’s asking for a divorce!?’

"Professor Donoghan... please forgive me for this late intrusion..." the boy stammered, carefully avoiding meeting her gaze.

"Speak. What’s happening?" she ordered, frowning.

The messenger swallowed loudly, his hands shaking even more.

"Reports have just come in, madam... Donoghan County, the Paragon one, was attacked by Spectrum forces and... it has been completely destroyed. There’s nothing left..."

Dyana felt the ground give way beneath her feet.

"The county... destroyed?" she repeated, her mind refusing to grasp the scale of the disaster.

"Yes, madam... And I regret to inform you that... one of Sky City’s students is among the victims..."

Dyana froze. At first she seemed shocked, her eyes widening in horror.

"No! Don’t tell me—"

"It’s Lord Kaiser, madam... His remains have probably been reduced to ashes among the flames..."

At that precise moment, Dyana Donoghan’s face completely froze, losing all trace of human warmth. Her features became a cold marble mask, expressionless, while a deadly silence settled in the corridor. The messenger, terrified by this total lack of reaction, hurried to add details to fill the void.

"The Spectrum, you say? Why didn’t the Holy Cathedral react more quickly?"

"It’s not... I mean, who would believe that the Lancasters were in cahoots with The Spectrum?"

Dyana took the letter and opened it while the messenger continued.

"The first conclusions indicate that the Lancaster family is responsible for this betrayal... Katrina Lancaster was found with demonic mana residues... she would have led the assault before succumbing in turn..."

Dyana was no longer listening. A crack had just spread through her soul, shattering the last remnants of her already fragile mental health. Upon learning of the death of the man she secretly loved more than her own life, Dyana Donoghan...

A burst of mana suddenly exploded around her, making the stone walls of the academy vibrate.

’Kaiser... dead?’ she thought, her eyes turning into an abyssal black. ’My Kaiser... killed by that Lancaster vermin?’

Without a word to the messenger who had collapsed to the ground, crushed by the pressure, she rushed toward the window of her room.

...

Two hours later... Lancaster County...

The sky above the Lancaster lands was low, laden with dark clouds. A solitary silhouette floated, motionless, several dozen meters above the ramparts of the main city. Dyana Donoghan overlooked the domain, her hair whipping her face in the gusts of wind. She looked down coldly at the passersby.

Below, the county guards finally noticed her presence.

"Look! Up there! A figure is floating above the castle!" shouted a captain, pointing his sword toward the sky.

A murmur of panic spread among the soldiers. Upon closer inspection, they quickly recognized the person, but the aura emanating from Dyana had nothing noble about it. It was pure murderous intent, pure malice, which immediately alerted the soldiers and everyone living in the domain.

Dyana lowered her eyes toward them, a demented and frozen smile on her lips.

"You took my happiness..." she murmured, her voice carried by the wind to the terrified guards’ ears. "In return... I’m going to extinguish your world."

She slowly raised her right hand toward the sky. Immediately, ninth-circle mana resonated with her Metal attribute.

"Metal Lances"

In a flash, thousands of metal spikes materialized in the air. Without an ounce of hesitation, Dyana lowered her arm.

Immediately, the massacre began. The spikes rained down at the speed of sound, piercing plate armor like butter. A guard trying to take cover saw a lance pierce his skull, literally nailing him to the ground before his head burst under the kinetic pressure. Blood spurted in a fountain, repainting the white courtyard tiles a scarlet red.

"Help me! My legs!" screamed a young soldier whose two lower limbs had just been cleanly severed by a rotating metal blade that Dyana manipulated from a distance. His spilled intestines spread across the ground.

Dyana showed no mercy. She slowly descended toward the ground, her feet barely touching it. Everywhere she passed, metal spikes burst from the earth, impaling the fleeing from below.

A noble coming out of the main building to understand the origin of the commotion was seized by the throat.

"One way or another, you’re all guilty!"

His eyes bulged out of their sockets as liquid metal rushed into his mouth, suffocating him from the inside before exploding his ribcage in a disgusting sound.

The cries of pain saturated the air.

"Why are you doing this, Duchess?!" shouted an officer whose left arm was now hanging only by a shred of muscle. "We did nothing!"

Dyana turned toward him, her amber eyes shining with pure madness.

"Your master is Count Lancaster..." she said in a voice devoid of any human warmth. "That’s already more than enough."

She clenched her fist. Instantly, the officer’s armor contracted violently on itself. The sharp cracking of his bones breaking one after another could be heard. The iron crushed his internal organs, turning the man into a shapeless mass of meat and steel.

Dyana’s progression through the Lancaster manor was systematic.

Severed limbs littered the corridors, severed heads rolled across the carpets, and the usual scent had been replaced by the metallic and fetid smell of mass death.

A maid, hidden behind a column, was crying silently. Dyana stopped in front of her, tilting her head to the side. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Her eyes were completely dark. Indicating that something was wrong.

"Shh..." Dyana murmured, placing a cold hand on the top of her head. "Don’t cry. You’ll join them soon..."

In a discharge of mana, the girl’s head disappeared, vaporized by a metallic pressure blast.

The massacre continued for hours, until not a single heartbeat remained in the entire Lancaster County. Only Dyana remained standing amid the ruins, covered in the blood of those she held responsible for her loss, as the rain began to fall, the blood flowing in a river.

"I miss you so much, Kaiser..." Dyana murmured, raising her eyes to the sky, letting the rain fall on her face, masking her tears.

Behind her, an invisible silhouette to others materialized, embracing her neck...

"You’re right, mortal... No one can bring your darling back anymore... Give free rein to your hatred of the world~~"

Mammon, the demonic princess of madness, whispered in her ear...
