Divine Doctor and His CEO Wife - Chapter 230
She stood up abruptly. "Stop right there!"
Chen Xiao turned around. "Is there something else?"
Lu Rugao scoffed. "I know your kind. A bunch of country dogs trying to play golf is just pathetic. If you win, I’ll give you one hundred million. One hundred million in exchange for kneeling and apologizing. You’re not losing out, are you?"
Chen Xiao snickered. "How about I give you a hundred million, and you kneel and apologize to us?"
Lu Rugao’s face turned livid.
How could she possibly agree to such a condition? For someone of her noble status, kneeling to apologize was worse than death. Prideful as she was, she would never do such a thing.
Just then, Robin sneered, "If we lose, we’ll give you the three kneels and nine kowtows you demanded and apologize! But if we win, you’ll have to accompany my Lord Chen for a month! How about it? Do you dare?"
His words stunned everyone.
This guy wants Lu Rugao to warm Chen Xiao’s bed? How did he have the gall to say that?
"Are you looking to die?" Lu Rugao’s face was as cold as frost as she glared at Robin.
Robin, however, asked coolly, "Weren’t you the one who started this? Scared to play now?"
Lu Rugao clenched her fists in anger. "Don’t be so arrogant!"
"Is being arrogant illegal?" Robin spread his hands. "Show me the law that says being arrogant is a crime."
Seeing his punchable expression, Lu Rugao and the young elites from Capital City behind her were so angry their faces twisted.
Luo Qingli and her friends, however, felt a wave of satisfaction, smiles gracing their faces. A stuck-up woman like Lu Rugao needed a shameless rogue like Robin to put her in her place.
Robin scoffed and continued to provoke her. "Miss Lu, you were barking so happily a moment ago. Why have you gone quiet? Didn’t you call us country dogs? You aristocrats and your noble sports... don’t you even have the confidence to beat a ’country dog’?"
Lu Rugao’s eyes looked murderous.
It wasn’t that she lacked confidence. It was that Robin’s condition was far too humiliating. She, the dignified young miss of the Lu Family, being treated like an escort? And for someone like Chen Xiao, no less? She would rather die!
Still, she couldn’t swallow this insult. She turned to Cheng Lin. "Are you confident?"
Cheng Lin hesitated for a moment before nodding, declaring proudly, "I’m the three-time champion of the Capital City Youth Golf Tournament. My skills are top-tier in this country. Beating a country dog who knows nothing about the sport is beneath discussion. However, the condition this guy proposed is too excessive. I don’t think you need to take this bet."
"Hahaha, she’s scared!" Robin ramped up his taunts. "So you’re all bark and no bite! After barking so fiercely, you’re backing down now. You started this, and now you’re the one hiding in your shell. Tsk tsk. What a joke. A clown."
Robin’s provocation made Lu Rugao’s eyes spit fire. She had never suffered such humiliation in her entire life, nor had she ever met such a despicable person.
Now, she genuinely wanted to kill him.
In a fit of rage, she said coldly, "Fine! I’ll take your bet!"
"If I win, all four of you will perform the three kneels and nine kowtows, apologizing to us on video as proof. If I lose, I, Lu Rugao, will accompany Chen Xiao for a month!"
The moment she said this, the people behind her began to protest, urging her not to be rash. What if something unexpected happened? If word got out, Lu Rugao’s reputation would be utterly ruined.
"That’s enough. My mind is made up!" Lu Rugao waved a hand, silencing them. After a pause, she fixed her gaze on Robin’s nonchalant figure and said, word by word, "But I’m adding a condition. If I win... I also want your two legs."
Robin shrugged. "Never mind two legs. For Lord Chen’s happiness, I’d offer all three."
Zhang Yaqing giggled lightly. "Miss Lu, be careful you don’t capsize in a gutter. Before you know it, enemies might become sisters. I’m afraid once you get a taste of Chen Xiao, you won’t have the heart to call for his head anymore."
Lu Rugao’s face flushed red. Cursing "slut" under her breath, she sneered, "That’s impossible. Keep dreaming."
She knew Cheng Lin’s strength. Three-time champion of the National Youth Golf Championship—did they think that was a joke? His skill level surpassed that of many professional players.
She glared coldly at Robin. "Just wait for your legs to be broken."
"You should worry about getting yourself cleaned up. Go learn some skills so you can properly serve my Lord Chen," Robin retorted.
Cheng Lin stepped forward, his voice dripping with scorn. "You think playing a few rounds of golf means you know how to play? A mutt is still a mutt, completely clueless about the gap between you and a professional! Your opponent is a national champion! A three-time champion, at that! Do you even grasp what that means?"
Robin mocked him without reservation. "I really don’t. All I know is that you got slapped and didn’t even dare to make a peep. What a wimp!"
As he spoke, he flipped Cheng Lin the middle finger, his provocation unmistakable.
Zhang Yaqing lowered her voice, whispering in Chen Xiao’s ear, "Are you really going through with this bet? Is this guy reliable?"
"It doesn’t matter if he’s not," Chen Xiao replied indifferently.
Zhang Yaqing paused, then the realization dawned on her. She couldn’t help but laugh as she whispered, "So you never planned to honor your side of the bet if you lost?"
Chen Xiao just smiled.
Why would he honor the bet if he could just get away with it?
Rage filled Cheng Lin’s eyes, but he forced himself to calm down, saying to Robin with disdain, "Competing with trash like you is an insult to me. Let’s do this: a five-shot challenge. We each get five shots. Whoever sinks more balls wins. Simple and brutal. How about it?"
Cheng Lin was brimming with confidence. He had set records in the National Golf League. At his skill level, he could basically sink a ball in two strokes on average—an incredibly high degree of precision. Even many top professional players couldn’t match him.
"Fine by me," Robin shrugged nonchalantly.
"Bring me my club!" Cheng Lin ordered a nearby attendant.
Soon, his golf club was brought over.
"This young master’s custom club alone is worth over a million. This is what you call professional. How do you plan to compete with me?" he said, proudly brandishing the expensive club.
Unimpressed, Robin simply picked up a standard club from the rack.
Lu Rugao relaxed, once again lifting her wine glass. "Chen Xiao, I’m afraid your ignorantly arrogant subordinate is going to lose miserably today. Challenging someone’s livelihood with a mere hobby is the height of foolishness. I’m already looking forward to the sight of you all kneeling at my feet like dogs."
Chen Xiao scoffed. "If he loses, the worst that happens is his legs get broken. What’s that to me? On the other hand, if you lose, how exactly do you plan on making me comfortable? I’ll even buy you a textbook later. You should study the required skills before you start your new ’job’."
"Vulgar!" Lu Rugao snapped, her face flushing, before turning to Cheng Lin with a cold expression. "Cheng Lin, if you lose this time, don’t even think about associating with me ever again. If you win, I, Lu Rugao, will reward you handsomely."
Whether she could regain the face she’d lost today depended entirely on Cheng Lin’s performance.
Cheng Lin took a deep breath. He knew very well that earning Lu Rugao’s favor hinged on his ability to crush these fools under his heel.
After warming up, he waved for someone to set the golf ball, then shot Robin a look of utter disdain. "Watch closely. This is what you call world-class!"
