Chapter 262: Ch 262: Taking Shuu back - Part 2

Kaiden’s nerves were always on high alert, and he did not want others to approach him and Shuu. He was afraid that he would snap at someone and scare them.

But he was not going to hold back either if people continued to swarm him like flies.

"Sir, are you alright? Do you need a medic-?"

"Who cares about a medic? We need a guide here. An S-class needs to be guided-"

"We have Secretary Ann. He’s an A-class and as good as guides get. We need to let him take the lead."

Everyone turned toward Secretary Ann, waiting for him to take charge and tell them what they needed to do. And frankly, this much responsibility scared Secretary Ann as well.

He did not like the look in Kaiden’s eyes. It made him afraid, and even as a guide, he feared for his life approaching the annoyed esper.

But since he was the highest-ranking person here (except the kids), he needed to take a step forward and make sure no one got hurt.

"Sir Kaiden, you must be exhausted. Let me guide you-"

"If you bring your hand toward me, then I will take it to mean that you no longer need it. So take your actions carefully."

Kaiden reminded him, and Secretary Ann froze mid-action. He suddenly realized that he was in front of a lot of people and his life was on the line. It would be better for him to pretend nothing happened and brush it off. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

But it was so hard for him to do.

The emotional toll of the last few days had exhausted him, and he felt like he could no longer function properly. So his words poured out of his mouth without meaning to.

"Why are you being so mean to me? All I am doing is trying to help you out. But you keep speaking against me like I am the problem here. What more do you want from me at this point? Do you want us all to die? Huh-! Is that it? You want to combust due to a lack of guiding and take us all out-"

Kaiden grabbed Secretary Ann’s wrist, and the secretary paused. The stable state of the esper in front of him reached his senses, and he blinked before his face went white.

He quickly pulled his hand back, and Kaiden allowed him to do so.

"See, I told you that there was no need for you to worry about me. Now stop annoying me."

Secretary Ann nodded mutely, and Kaiden started to walk toward his car. But that was when Secretary Ann snapped back to his senses and noticed something extremely important.

"Excuse me, but you cannot just take a person from our guild with you without notice. Please hand Secretary Shuu back to us, and then you are free to go."

It was bold of the secretary to step forward and say these words to Kaiden, especially when he could see that Kaiden was not in a good mood. There was even a chance that he might die because of this.

But frankly, Secretary Ann was terrified for his life as well. His body had moved before his mind had been able to.

Years of responsibility made him stand up against one of the biggest dangers in his life. And the man was looking back at Ann with a killer look in his eyes.

Finally, the esper turned around and started walking again, with Shuu still held tightly in his arms.

"I will not be giving this person back to you. Caelis, bring Rin along. We are heading back home now."

Kaiden declared, and Caelis nodded before he grabbed Rin’s hand and pulled the kid after him.

Rin looked at Secretary Ann and then at Caelis’s hand holding his own, and his small face looked determined.

"Secretary, I will head out with Caelis now."

Rin declared before he started to follow the other kid. Secretary Ann could only watch this happen with a heavy heart.

’This is all my fault. I failed at managing these people and getting them to safety quickly. Because of me, Shuu got hurt and taken by another esper. And now, Rin is being made to follow them as well.’

It was a frustrating situation, but Secretary Ann was not going to give up. He would find a way to bring Shuu back to their side.

"Tsk, why does that esper know about Shuu? Is this his way of crippling our guild’s progress? Is he trying to bring Boss Yuri down?"

Secretary Ann complained with a heavy heart. No one gave him an answer, but there was only one person who seemed to know why Shuu got taken so fast.

Kris felt helpless as he watched that foreign esper get away with Shuu. It did not sit well with him, and he wanted to stop them somehow. But it was so hard to do. His instincts were terrified of that esper, and his heart was telling him to be careful as well.

He was only able to move once Kaiden left, and he immediately headed over to the secretary to provide his support.

"Don’t feel bad, Secretary Ann. There is something weird about that esper. He’s likely not who he appears to be. I am afraid that we might be over our heads if we try to figure this one out. We will have to leave this up to Boss Yuri."

Kris declared, and Secretary Ann looked crushed. He sighed and looked down at his hands.

"This was the last thing I wanted Boss Yuri to worry about. But you are also right. That man is not someone we can fight and win against. We will need more than words to convince him to do what we need."

But it did not look like Kaiden was one to be persuaded. But they still had time and a contract to abide by. As long as they held it close, it was possible for them to pressure the other side.

And if nothing else, they could hope to gain something precious in exchange for Shuu and Rin’s presence.
