Shuu did not know what Secretary Ann meant by ’following him around,’ but Shuu found out pretty quickly that he was meant to stand by the secretary’s side for now and watch him work.

It felt awkward at first, but Shuu quickly got used to being a decoration by Secretary Ann’s side.

Despite his tendency to keep his presence low, people still noticed him and decided to pay unnecessary attention to him. It was both good and bad, causing Shuu to feel uncomfortable around some of these people.

One such person was the defence minister Secretary Ann was currently talking to.

Shuu could tell that the person in front of him was an esper, and at least an A-class one at that. He was also deprived of guiding, and his waves were trying to reach Shuu in order to make him guide the minister.

But Shuu was stubborn and kept pretending he did not know what that esper was trying to do. That made the esper even more curious about Shuu, and he turned toward Secretary Ann to discuss borrowing Shuu.

"Secretary Ann, who’s the new face behind you? He looks cute. Can I try him-"

"He’s not a guide, sir. He’s a new intern I am personally guiding around. I hope you will be respectful enough to keep your hands to yourself. We do not want another incident happening, do we?"

It was a forceful closure of this topic. Secretary Ann was making it clear that there were boundaries in place that he did not want the minister to cross.

"Tsk, you are such a boring kid. You need to live a little and enjoy the thrill of life. What Esper Yuri doesn’t know won’t hurt him. I will have this kid back before it’s time-"

"That is not the point, sir. It seems we will not reach a conclusion today. We shall take our leave now. I will see you tomorrow alone."

Secretary Ann stood up, and that was Shuu’s cue to get up as well. He followed the secretary outside, but his eyes kept looking back at the defence minister in shock and suspicion. That man flashed Shuu a sincere smile, but it only made Shuu’s insides churn even more with suspicion.

He had a feeling this meeting was far from over.

"Ugh, this man pisses me off every time I come here to talk to him. Listen here, Shuu-if you ever have to deal with these kinds of polite assholes, you should run away as soon as possible. They might look all polite, but they don’t listen and keep doing whatever they want to. Ugh, they piss me off so much-"

Shuu was paying attention to Secretary Ann, but he was also keeping an eye on his surroundings. That’s when he noticed the sudden change in his surroundings. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Maybe it was his delusion, but he could swear that the area around him suddenly looked darker compared to before, and his reactions were also slower than before.

He walked slowly, but his hands and feet felt cold and refused to move.

Secretary Ann’s voice seemed to be coming from underwater, and it was distant and slow.

’Has Secretary Ann not noticed what is going on? Or is it only happening to me?’

Shuu wanted to ask this question, but breathing became harder when he opened his mouth. He felt as if water was rushing down his throat, and hands were grabbing at his arms, pulling him back.

It was a truly terrifying feeling to realize that he could not do anything but gasp there and try to break whatever was holding him back.

"-and this is also... Shuu, are you listening? Hey-! You... Darn it-! That man used his abilities on you. This is not good. At this rate, you might faint on me. Ugh, I need a phone-"

Shuu’s body felt colder than before, but Secretary Ann felt warm and nice to lean against. It made Shuu want to snuggle up against him, and that made Secretary Ann panic even more.

"H-Hey, don’t just go to sleep like this. It is dangerous-! Darn it-! What do I do now?"

Secretary Ann questioned this when Shuu felt another presence coming closer. He looked to his side, only to see the defence minister walking outside with a calm look on his face.

The calmness turned to surprise once he looked at Shuu, but nothing about his face looked genuine at the moment.

"Oh my-! Your companion looks quite sick. How about you come in and lay him down? Resting will make him feel better."

The defence minister asked with a smile on his face. The look on his face made Shuu want to punch him, but he did not do that because his body would not listen to him.

"You-! What did you do-! He’s a civilian. You cannot use your ability on a civilian, minister. This is a serious criminal offence-"

"Hmm, I don’t know what you are talking about here. I am only asking you to let me help with a fallen patient and nothing else. There is no talk about abilities and such."

The look on Secretary Ann’s face was not one Shuu had seen before. It was a mixture of resignation and annoyance.

Secretary Ann looked fed up with this mess and decided to head back.

"There will be no need for that. I will take my guild mate back now-"

"Stop right there. Who said that you could leave like that? I am inviting both of you back to my office, so you better listen to me and come. Otherwise, I am going to get angry at you."

The minister did something that caused Secretary Ann to start looking sick as well. Secretary Ann immediately looked up with an angry face.

"T-This is assault. I can have you charged-"

"Then go ahead and do it, kid. But I already know you well. You don’t want to inconvenience your guild master, right? In that case, you better keep quiet and let me have some fun with the two of you."
