Apocalypse Lord
Chapter 209 - 149: Divergence (2)
The commander of the Silver Wing Legion muttered to himself, "It’s no wonder that bunch of bumpkins can stand against the Abyssal Scourge’s embryo."
The man was dressed in a silver-white military uniform, with overly high cheekbones, a somewhat sharp chin, and a very slender figure, his complexion unnaturally pale.
The most peculiar feature was the sharp crimson horns growing on his head.
Horn continued to observe the situation on the shore.
"What kind of contract did the Ark Leader sign with those warriors to make them willingly sell their lives?"
He carefully observed the Sun Warriors’ fighting styles, muttering under his breath.
The fighting style of those creatures was truly frightening, and Horn instinctively disliked the flames rising from their bodies.
Fortunately, their numbers were limited.
Judging from the collected intelligence, arming fifty warriors was the limit for the Ark Kingdom.
"Commander, the second round of shelling is ready."
At this moment, a soldier stood behind Horn, respectfully saying, "We can take out those stubborn Ark Soldiers anytime, anywhere, as long as you nod."
"There’s no need for that; the port’s destruction has already been accomplished."
Horn shook his head, "We’re here to facilitate ’Free Trade,’ not cold, mad Empire butchers. The purpose of war has never been war itself."
"Aim the guns at the Fog Strait’s exit."
He ordered, "Warn any cargo ships approaching the shore, sink those who disobey!"
"Yes, Commander!"
The subordinate immediately responded, looking at the commander with admiration in his eyes.
Horn turned back, calmly gazing at the smoke and flames rising from the port ruins, an elegant smile playing on his lips.
Just as he thought, without solid foundations, small nations are easily crushed by the Alliance’s absolute power.
This time, the White Oak Main Island deployed two legions; presumably, Camelot Port at the Northern Border was also cleared by Alliance artillery.
The Ark Leader brought this upon himself!
The Supreme Commercial Union had long warned the Ark Kingdom.
But Lin Lan completely ignored the Alliance’s demands; he not only failed to hand over those two Feis hats but even occupied the Justice Route with those two lowly citizens!
Even after Lady Nightingale had painstakingly developed the Deep Sea Gray Realm, it was stolen by the Ark, and instead of feeling guilty, they smugly celebrated.
It’s inevitable that the Ark Kingdom received a lesson.
As the legion commander, the only regret Horn felt was that the higher-ups didn’t allow him to directly attack the Ark Kingdom’s capital, Seagull City, and frighten the ignorant Ark Leader, letting him witness firsthand the ’gap in national power.’
Perhaps the bigwigs want an intact Seagull City...
After all, the existing route entrance is right there, the Ark will eventually fall into the Alliance’s hands, and destroying Seagull Port isn’t a profitable business.
Horn fell into thought.
"Who’s there?!" The next second, he suddenly turned, his gaze locking tightly on the air.
The sky suddenly flickered,
Only to see a gray mask appear out of thin air amidst intertwined light and shadow, with a graceful figure quickly outlined behind the mask.
The man instinctively frowned.
It turned out to be the Grey-clothed Secret Guard, the Alliance’s trump card jointly wielded by the three Main Island Governors...
In fact, Horn didn’t like interacting with these mysterious beings; their ability to come and go freely near warships alone was enough to arouse his vigilance and caution.
This group was like ghosts overlooking the entire situation, no Alliance official’s actions could escape their eyes.
"What’s the matter?"
Horn asked casually.
"Commander, the diplomat from the Fortress Main Island wants to speak with you."
An emotionless voice came from behind the mask; she did not consult Horn’s agreement as she took out a small Magic Guidance Projection Device.
Horn felt a slight chill inwardly.
The next second, the magic device spread out in mid-air, holographic lights appeared in the scene, and a cold man wearing a monocle appeared in the picture.
"Without Fortress Main Island’s consent, White Oak Main Island attacked Ark Kingdom territory on its own; are you mad?!"
Sigma’s expression darkened to the extreme.
He wasted no words, directly pointing to the core issue: "Ark is a partner with whom we signed an agreement at Fortress Main Island!"
"The Ark Journal openly insulted the Commercial Union, those ignorant bumpkins have broken the rules, now there’s no partnership between the Alliance and Ark!"
Horn spread his hands, a quirky smile forming on his lips: "Besides, dispatching the legion was the Commercial Union’s decision, I’m merely an executor; what use is your complaint to me?"
He answered cautiously.
Horn knew a small diplomat couldn’t order the Grey-clothed Secret Guard, meaning...
– The Commercial Union’s actions have already triggered dissatisfaction from the Fortress Governor.
Yet everyone knows it’s common for the three governors to disagree.
But they rarely openly issue decrees, escalating matters to the point where a Main Island Council must be convened for a vote.
Holding a grand meeting, putting differences on public display only weakens citizen cohesion, ultimately driving the Alliance towards division.
Thus, expressing positions through subordinates’ voices, testing each other, using their cultivated influences to participate in power struggles, are the governors’ usual main strategies.
The Alliance is such a complex, awkward nation.
A single governor’s will doesn’t represent everything, in this complex, invisible web of power, a politician stepping wrong becomes fodder for competitors.
Only truly clever people can climb to great heights.
Horn naturally enjoyed it.
"Listen, the Ark Leader is a beast crawling from the Deep Sea, Ark Kingdom’s real situation is far more complex than you imagine; you can’t swallow this island."
Sigma restrained his anger, speaking calmly, "Using such means only pushes Ark towards the Empire."
"Because of the Empire’s existence, we must act quickly, seizing the new resource treasury immediately."
Horn replied coolly, "Even if the Alliance doesn’t act, the Empire will eventually control the weak Ark Kingdom; we must not let that rightful route for the Alliance go to the Empire."
"Furthermore, we’re standing on the side of Justice."
The legion commander coldly remarked: "If the Commercial Union doesn’t respond to the Ark Journal, allowing Ark to develop new routes, how can the Alliance maintain its face at sea?"
Both sides expressed their thoughts and positions, not yielding an inch.
The atmosphere fell into an eerie silence.
However, compared to Sigma’s silence, Horn seemed calm; he knew in this confrontation, the Fortress Governor clearly was at a disadvantage.
"Sigma, you’re a smart person, why stay on the dull, boring Fortress Main Island?"
After a moment, Horn took the initiative to open the topic, his eyes gradually turning a strange pure black.
The next second, an illusory, exquisite paper appeared in mid-air, grasped by Horn.
"Why not sign a contract with me, join the Commercial Union?"
He waved the paper, smiling towards the light: "People like you can only unleash their talents on the White Oak Main Island."
The legion commander’s words seemed to contain a power that seduced minds.
"Don’t show your disgusting racial abilities in front of me."
Sigma adjusted his monocle, unaffected, releasing a snort: "Signing a contract with Demon People? Do you take me for insane?"
"Oh, you really need to shake off the stereotype that ’contracts with Demon People are harmful.’"
Horn spread his hands: "Our numerous partners are all living quite well."
Sigma coldly turned off the holographic projection.
The man leaned against the mast, looking up at the sunset, finally letting out a deep sigh.
"The Alliance pursuing ideals will eventually be destroyed by fools like you..."
