Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System
Chapter 240: Vicious Public
Vikram truly hadn’t expected so many Survivors who were clearly not from Brown Wood Shelter to be approaching.
"Could it be that Brown Wood Shelter has completely given up on such a large Hospital?"
In doubt, Vikram went into the crowd and circled around, specifically looking for a kind-faced survivor to ask, "Brother, what are you all doing here?"
"Why aren’t you going in to explore such a large resource point? Why are you all just staring blankly?"
The kind-faced Survivor Vikram spoke to cautiously sized him up, and seemingly sensing no malice from Vikram, he asked, "Brother, you just arrived today, didn’t you?"
"You must have also been drawn here by Brown Wood Shelter’s news, right?"
Vikram was taken aback, not expecting the other party to say that.
After a moment of thought, Vikram shook his head and said, "I just happened to be passing by and saw so many people gathered here, so I came over to check out the situation."
"You mean, you were all drawn here by Brown Wood Shelter?"
The kind-faced Survivor nodded without hesitation, "Of course, haven’t you been paying attention to the chat channel these past two days?"
"Brown Wood Shelter said there was a large resource point here, so we rushed over."
"Before, we just came up with the idea of trying it out, but we didn’t expect it to actually be a huge resource point."
"As for why we’re not going in, it’s not that we don’t want to, but rather, see for yourself."
He explained halfway, then turned his head and pointed inside the Hospital.
Vikram followed his gaze to the Hospital.
He saw nothing unusual except for a large group of zombies piled up, so he blinked in confusion.
"Why are you so slow? Haven’t you seen that the outside of the Hospital is packed with zombies? How dare we go in? Are we tired of living?"
Hearing the other party say that, Vikram suddenly realized; he no longer considered these ordinary zombies a threat.
With his current physique, these zombies couldn’t even scratch his skin, let alone bite him to death.
Not to mention he was also equipped with excellent gear.
Seeing so many people outside, Vikram was not in a hurry to continue asking, "Then if you can’t get in, what are you still looking at here?"
"Don’t tell me you’re waiting for the zombies to fall asleep before sneaking in."
The kind-faced Survivor waved his hand, "Why even ask? There will always be some hot-headed youths with decent strength who want to force their way in."
"It doesn’t matter if they don’t make it through, but as long as they do, we can take the opportunity to follow behind them and slip in."
"By then, the metal inside the Hospital will be ours for the taking."
Upon hearing this, Vikram couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed, "So you’re taking such a big risk just for a bit of scrap metal?"
He had thought these people were here to compete with him for the Hospital’s medicine.
And hearing Vikram speak so casually about metal, the other party was a little moved.
"What do you mean ’just a bit of scrap metal’? Don’t you know that the price of metal on the market has gone up a tiny bit again? Nine catties of iron can be exchanged for half a bowl of food!"
Vikram’s heart skipped a beat; he had been in contact with too many major forces these past two days and indeed lacked understanding of ordinary Survivors in the Wasteland.
He had thought these people weren’t doing well, but he hadn’t expected there to be survivors who would take such risks for food.
Not only did the kind-faced Survivor in front of him say this, but even several Survivors eavesdropping nearby also chimed in with mockery.
"Which shelter’s young master is this? Those who don’t manage a household truly don’t know the cost of living."
"He even said ’just a bit of scrap metal’. If you’re not here for this scrap metal, then tell us, what are you doing approaching this Hospital?"
"Could it be that you brought your children here for a wild tryst?"
"Clearly, we’re all out here trying to make a living, yet you insist on pretending to be rich and powerful."
"If you really had the strength, why come yourself? Just call your subordinates."
The onlookers clearly regarded Vikram as someone who lacked strength but tried to pretend he wasn’t short on supplies or food. And with him there were also many children.
He wasn’t angry about this and calmly said, "My all subordinates are with me, and our target was the Legendary Zombie?"
There was a hint of showing off in his words, but Vikram’s main purpose for this trip, besides medicine, was indeed to eliminate the Legendary-level.
However, as Legendary-level creatures gradually appeared in the sight of many Survivors, everyone had a somewhat vague understanding of them.
But everyone undeniably agreed that Legendary-level creatures were simply not something current Survivors could contend with.
Even the leaders of those dominant major factions would absolutely not be able to deal with them alone.
Therefore, Vikram’s words, upon reaching the ears of the crowd, caused a burst of laughter.
"Hahahahaha, I’m dying of laughter."
"Brothers, did you hear that? Just now he was saying he disdained metal, and now he’s preparing to deal with a Legendary-level creature."
"Of course we heard it, we’re not deaf. This kid is really good at showing off."
"Dealing with a Legendary-level? If a Legendary Zombie really charged out, he probably wouldn’t even have time to wet his pants before being instantly killed."
"And the children with him were his subordinates, haha. He doesn’t even have the proper subordinates, and wants to deal with Legendary-Level."
"You all just wait, maybe he’ll even say he can single-handedly wipe out a major faction in our area in a bit."
At this moment, another burly man, who looked very strong, walked up behind Vikram. Noticing Vikram’s indifference, a smile spread across his lips.
"Kid, I’m one of the first groups to arrive here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, there’s really a Legendary Zombie here."
"If you don’t believe me, you can go in and try your luck. After all, since you said so, you must be quite capable, right?"
"Maybe you’ll even take down the Legendary Zombie, and then you’ll be the strongest Survivor in our area."
These words seemed like a warning, but in reality, they were a complete provocation.
For ordinary, rational people, there might be no reaction, but for those who like to show off, this flattery was right up their alley.
If Vikram had an average physique and, due to peer pressure, stubbornly went in and got killed, this person would be the undisputed murderer.
The several Survivors around who enjoyed watching the show were originally just smiling and didn’t plan to pay attention anymore.
But upon hearing these words, they immediately became interested again.
"That’s right, brother, we’ve already laughed. If you really have the strength, prove it to us."
"Deal with the Legendary Zombie inside, and we promise to kowtow and apologize to you. You can do whatever you want."
As soon as these words came out, they ignited the crowd’s gossip, and more Survivors who were focused on observing the Hospital’s situation echoed their sentiments.
Only the kind-faced Survivor standing opposite Vikram looked a little flustered.
He hadn’t expected his single rebuttal to gain so much approval, causing the young man in front of him to be verbally attacked and even forced to challenge a Legendary Zombie alone.
"Forget it, brothers, I think my brother next to me was just joking. Isn’t it asking too much to make him deal with a Legendary-level one?"
"No Survivor has been heard of being able to deal with such a monster yet."
"How can that be? People say that if you start to show off, you have to finish it, even if it kills you."
"This kid spoke so casually just now; he has to show us with action before we brothers let him leave."
A group of lean young men with fierce looks emerged from the crowd. After speaking, they all blocked Vikram’s retreat.
"Vik, do you want to kill these annoying people?" Warry had been listening for a long time and was already very impatient.
Because for him Vikram was like his family, his parents, and he will not tolerate anyone mocking him.
After listening for a long time, his fists were clenching his blade, just waiting for Vikram’s command.
Phanty was already looking for everyone, just one command, and all these useless humans vanished.
They thought that Vikram, having been mocked for so long, would surely order them to kill these ugly-faced Survivors, despite him usually killing people without batting an eye.
However, Vikram shook his head, pondered for a moment, and then revealed a smile.
"No need, just go straight in." After speaking, Vikram completely ignored the shouting Survivors and walked directly towards the Hospital.
"Brother, there’s no need for this, you don’t have to pay attention to them."
The kind-faced Survivor Vikram had spoken to looked regretful, but Vikram just nodded at him and continued to walk forward.
But he would never have imagined that merely speaking a few words for Vikram today, such a simple gesture, would save his life.
The Hospital was not just a few buildings exposed on the ground; in fact, there was a wall around the Hospital, similar to a glowing rock.
And the reason they could stand and watch was because someone had blocked the broken retractable gate at the main entrance of the Hospital.
The zombies inside were trapped in the open space in front of the outpatient building and couldn’t get out. Even if a few occasionally emerged, they would be jointly killed.
Vikram was too lazy to destroy the retractable gate; with an easy jump, he flipped over into it.
As soon as he landed, the zombies in the Hospital’s open space immediately turned their heads towards him.
"Hehe, this kid really went in. Now this is interesting."
Watching Vikram actually dare to walk into the Hospital, a cheer immediately erupted from the crowd.
Of course, they weren’t genuinely cheering for Vikram; more so, they just wanted to see how miserably Vikram would die later.
"I bet this kid won’t even reach the Hospital’s main entrance before being bitten to death by zombies."
"Tsk, you think too highly of him. Didn’t you see that even Old Donk, the strongest among us, is still struggling inside? He hasn’t broken into the Hospital after all this time."
"I bet he won’t last five minutes before becoming a clean-picked skeleton."
Listening to the words of the people behind him, Vikram indeed noticed that the Hospital area was not entirely unbreached.
