Virtual Idol in the Beast World: Five Clans Fight Over Me
Chapter 65: The Scent of a Female
Gu Ning edited some of the video footage she had saved. It featured a female of the Bear Clan and was fifteen seconds long.
She had enough footage on hand to cut together quite a few videos.
However, she didn’t want to just rest on her laurels. Once she had some free time, she knew she had to film new content.
Beastmen were just a different species; mentally, they weren’t all that different. If she wanted this career to have longevity, she couldn’t just half-ass it.
Besides, she had already decided to create videos featuring virtual females from different clans. If she kept focusing on only two or three, the Beastmen from other clans would likely get upset.
The incident with the platform’s official intervention alone was enough for the Beastmen to downvote her so heavily that her affection value couldn’t rise.
If she didn’t strike the right balance, she could face another situation where her affection value got massively downvoted. Beastman clans have a powerful sense of unity; they rally together at a moment’s notice. It would be child’s play for them to tank her account’s level.
Gu Ning scrolled through the comments for a while, then wrote out the video’s title: "I heard someone secretly gave me a name behind my back? Yuanbao? It must have been a cute big guy who came up with it."
She added the "Female" and "Bear Clan" tags, then hit post.
The moment the video was uploaded, the Beastmen following her account received a notification. They immediately clicked on it.
Reading the title, the Beastmen felt a rush of blood to their heads, their hearts pounding wildly.
It was as if the little female was speaking directly to them, making them almost completely forget that a burly Beastman was the one behind the videos.
And that tone was just so, so...
The Beastmen clutched their hearts, overcome with the urge to roar at the sky.
Many Beastmen didn’t even watch the video, heading straight to the comments to leave passionate replies.
[Yuanbao! Yuanbao! I’m here! (A little dog charges in)]
[Yuanbao, you’re finally here! I missed you so much I couldn’t even eat, sob sob sob... (A little dog wipes its tears)]
[We weren’t doing it behind your back, Yuanbao! We wanted it to be a surprise! Do you like the name?]
[Even though I voted for a different name, as long as you like it, Yuanbao, that’s all that matters...]
[Are you calling me a cute big guy? Oh~ by the Beast God, you’re the cutest one, Yuanbao!]
[Are you guys insane? Yuanbao this, Yuanbao that. It’s just a model, no matter how well-made. It’s not a real person, but you’re getting all emotional over it. A bunch of mutant-brained morons.]
[It’s you again, that Birdman from Zone 9. If you don’t like it, then get lost!]
[I’ll post where I want. You got a problem with that?]
[Yeah, I’ve got a problem! Go spew your crap somewhere else, don’t pollute our Yuanbao’s comment section!]
[Get lost, you damn Birdman! Don’t let me catch you in Zone 9, or I’ll beat the bird crap right out of you!]
[Bring it on. I’ll be waiting for you morons in the First Military District.]
[Tsk, no wonder this Birdman’s so foul-mouthed. Turns out he’s the one with the mutant brain.]
[I’m from the Second Military Zone. As soon as I’m done dealing with the Mutant Species in Zone 19, you and me, Birdman from Zone 9. One-on-one.]
[Afraid of you? Got the guts? Come at me right now, you shit-eating mutt.]
[You’re on! You just wait for me at the gate to the Second District!]
[You stupid dog. The military zone’s electric fence is at maximum power. I’d love to see how you get out. Oh, wait, I know. You’ll crawl through a doggy door?]
[Miao Dengning, if you see this, hurry up and kick this Birdman out of the comments! He’s ruining the experience for those of us who want to enjoy Yuanbao!]
Miao Dengning couldn’t see any of it.
She had enjoyed a wonderful hot bath and felt completely refreshed. Lying on the relatively soft bed, she couldn’t fight off her drowsiness after posting the video. She curled up in her blanket and was out like a light.
Not long after Gu Ning fell asleep, her terminal lit up again. Messages popped up in the chat window:
[Mr. Gu Demiao Ning, Feixing Film and Television Company would like to express our interest in a partnership.]
[New Moon Film and Television Company would like to express our interest in a partnership.]
[Shengyang Film and Television Company would like to express our interest in a partne...]
When there was no response, a few lines of garbled text flashed across the chat interface:
[^*&#%=&’’-*#v&] (Detecting female is in a state of sleep.)
[`%*#^&...] (Activating Do Not Disturb mode.)
The terminal screen went black, and the room plunged into darkness.
...
「1:00 AM」
Alex finished his shift and prepared to head back.
Seeing Kloer standing there motionless, he walked over and clapped him on the shoulder. "Shift’s over."
"Oh, right, okay," Kloer answered, starting to walk ahead with his head down.
Alex saw he was about to walk straight into a pile of materials. He reached out and pulled him back, but just as he was about to scold him, he caught sight of the video playing on Kloer’s terminal.
A little female with the brown ears of a bear sat at a desk, propping her head on her hand as she lazily flipped through a book.
The camera angle was almost a direct shot of her face. She wore a medical mask, and her long black hair spilled softly over her shoulder. The visible upper half of her face looked gentle and serene.
"Enjoying the view?" Alex retracted his gaze and slapped Kloer hard on the back.
The slap made Kloer jolt upright.
"Yeah, yeah, she is." Kloer chuckled sheepishly. "Shift’s over, right? I just opened up Yuanbao’s video for a quick peek. Boss, I swear I wasn’t slacking off on the job."
"Yuanbao?" Alex glanced at the terminal again. "Is that a name you gave her?"
"Not me. Everyone voted on it." Kloer held his terminal out toward Alex. "Boss, doesn’t the name suit her perfectly?"
Alex switched off the terminal. "If you’re not tired enough, you can spend tonight on patrol duty along the wall."
Kloer: "No, no, Boss, don’t! I’m tired! I’m super tired."
The power to the construction site had already been shut off. The high wall was pitch-black, and not a single light was visible in all of Zone 19.
Snowflakes drifted from the sky, and the cries of Mutant Species were carried faintly on the wind.
The weather was nothing to Kloer, but he didn’t want to stand around smelling the stench of Mutant Species.
Alex strode toward the elevator.
Kloer hurried to catch up. "Boss, Yuanbao is really different from the other virtual females. You’ll get it if you just watch for a second."
Alex didn’t respond.
Kloer continued, muttering to himself, "I wonder who the guy who modeled Yuanbao is. Their technique and aesthetic sense are incredible. I almost think Yuanbao looks like a real person."
"Boss, you wanna take a look? Help me analyze it?"
Alex said, "It seems to me you’re not tired at all. In that case, stay here and patrol."
Kloer immediately shut his mouth and hurried into the elevator with him.
...
...
When Alex returned to his quarters, he stood at the door for a moment before quietly opening it.
His gaze went straight to the sofa. He didn’t see the small figure he was expecting, only his work jacket lying on the cushions.
After closing the door, Alex walked over to the sofa and paused, picking up the jacket to smell it.
The scent of the Dog Clan male in heat and the strange odor of the Beast Smell Agent were completely gone. Even his own scent on it was faint.
The medicine concocted from Lanuo’s prescription was incredibly potent. It had eliminated all male scents, leaving only... the scent of a female.
Alex buried his nose in the jacket and took a deep breath.
After a moment, he suppressed the turbulent emotions rising within him and approached the bedroom, his steps light and silent.
In the quiet of the night, the sound of steady breathing from within the bedroom was exceptionally clear to his ears.
Confirming that the person inside was sound asleep, Alex placed his hand on the doorknob. He pressed down slowly, opening the door without making a single sound.
He only opened the door a crack, but a rich, sweet fragrance immediately rushed out, flooding his senses.
In the enclosed space, the neutralizer had reached its maximum effect.
The impact was so strong that Alex’s brain seemed to short-circuit for a moment.
