Chapter 491 - 3: Wen Fei’s Passing (3)
"In this state, caring about your already withered appearance, is there any meaning in that." Gu Yuan sneered sarcastically.
Wen Fei didn’t care about the tone Gu Yuan used to speak to her now.
In the past, she would have cared. If Gu Yuan talked back to her once, she would get angry and raise her hand, telling her what kind of attitude a daughter should have. Later, as Gu Yuan became more assertive, Wen Fei’s temper could no longer stir up any waves in front of her. Gradually, she lost her assertiveness.
"You’re right, it seems it doesn’t matter anymore." Wen Fei said with a light smile.
Gu Yuan didn’t understand Wen Fei’s state of mind, nor did she want to delve into it.
At this moment, Wen Fei pried open Gu Yuan’s hand and lay back down, "You can go now, I didn’t sleep all night last night, now I need to rest."
She didn’t seem inclined to pay attention to Gu Yuan.
This kind of action and attitude could easily provoke Gu Yuan, but seeing Wen Fei like this, her anger was forcefully suppressed: "You urgently called me to Sydney to collect your remains, and now you’re telling me, deliberately lured me here with ulterior motives?"
She didn’t understand what Wen Fei was trying to do.
In this state, she was still playing games very well.
"What intentions do you think I could possibly have?" Wen Fei opened her eyes and looked at Gu Yuan.
Gu Yuan replied coolly, "In that case, I see no reason to stay in Sydney, I’m going back to the country today, take care of yourself."
She turned to leave.
She knew it when she came, Wen Fei’s antics were just to drain her out, making both of them uneasy.
These past two days of relentless travel had exhausted Gu Yuan, she felt she had fulfilled her duty to the utmost, and to Wen Fei, all she owed was duty, nothing more.
As she prepared to leave, with her back to Wen Fei, behind came Wen Fei’s voice—
"I’m sorry, Yuanyuan."
Gu Yuan was stunned.
Wait, wait—!
What did she just hear?
She heard Wen Fei say sorry to her, those three words.
Gu Yuan’s lips curled into a sarcastic smile, she turned to see Wen Fei already sitting up, looking at her, her expression sorrowful.
"Are you saying sorry to me?" Gu Yuan felt she must have misheard, she never contemplated a day where Wen Fei would say sorry to her.
Yet that day did come.
"I’m sorry, Yuanyuan." She repeated.
Gu Yuan chuckled, almost choking: "What right do you have to use my nickname?"
Wen Fei’s expression was sorrowful, but it was not something she deliberately showed her, she was truly in agony. But all were the hardships she herself had tasted, her internal organs had rotted to a sorry state.
"All these years, for being harsh, indifferent, and abusive to you, I sincerely apologize to you." Wen Fei said word by word, seriously, though her voice was hoarse, "I don’t expect you to forgive me."
She said.
Gu Yuan’s face became calm: "You overthink, I will never forgive you in this lifetime, so rest assured."
Wen Fei said: "That would be good."
Gu Yuan pointed to the table: "I’ve brought breakfast, if you have the strength, get up and eat, if not, just throw it away."
Wen Fei looked in the direction Gu Yuan pointed, the breakfast was steaming and smelled good, but it wasn’t something she liked.
She pleaded with Gu Yuan: "Could you please make me a bowl of noodles?"
"You’re requesting me?"
"I am pleading with you."
Gu Yuan refused: "No." and she refused decisively with the reason: "I don’t know how to."
Whether she knew or not, Wen Fei surely knew.
She chuckled bitterly: "Just a bowl of noodles, after eating it, I won’t bother you anymore, you can go back to the country."
Gu Yuan: "Eat if you like."
Gu Yuan was ready to leave, behind was Wen Fei’s plea: "Gu Yuan, I’m begging you."
In Gu Yuan’s own view, she was indeed cold-hearted, but that cold-heartedness was often just on the surface.
If Wen Fei had treated her with that hard attitude, ordering her around, Gu Yuan might not have stayed this long, she would have left without a trace. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
But at this moment, Wen Fei used such a tone to plead with her, asking for a bowl of noodles.
Eventually, Gu Yuan compromised.
She didn’t say a word, directly looked for the direction of the kitchen.
The castle was too big, Gu Yuan seldom came here, and it took her a long time to find the kitchen.
In the large kitchen, many things had molded, a musty smell filled Gu Yuan’s nose, very unpleasant. She raised her hand to block her nose, opened a fridge, and found a few bags of udon noodles inside.
She washed the pot and boiled water, scrambled an egg if there was any, added some soy sauce and vinegar, and a pinch of salt, it was as simple as could be. For a hungry person, it would surely be appealing.
But for someone who isn’t very hungry, it would be quite unappetizing.
She put the cooked udon into a bowl and went to Wen Fei’s room.
The steaming noodles didn’t smell particularly appetizing, Wen Fei thanked her with a phrase: "Thank you."
Gu Yuan: "You’re welcome."
Wen Fei didn’t hurry to pick up the chopsticks, she pointed to another direction: "Can you pour me another glass of water."
Gu Yuan glared at Wen Fei: "With the money I give you, can’t you afford servants? Not just one or two, even ten or eight shouldn’t be a problem."
Wen Fei: "I like quiet."
Gu Yuan: "Quiet? This castle is so big and yet only you live here. At night, when you think about the evil things you’ve done, don’t you get scared?"
"I do," Wen Fei nodded: "I do get scared."
Gu Yuan still went to pour Wen Fei a glass of water and placed it before her.
Wen Fei said: "Thank you..."
Besides saying thank you, the next two words Gu Yuan didn’t listen to carefully, as she had already turned around and left.
She left the castle, called a car, planning to head back to the hotel, and then booked a flight to return to the country tonight. She didn’t like Sydney, this place carried too many unpleasant events and memories.
The car arrived.
Gu Yuan got in.
Sitting in the car, Gu Yuan recalled every scene of her interaction with Wen Fei just now.
From bringing breakfast, drawing the curtains that were then pulled shut again, cooking a bowl of noodles, being thanked, and fetching a glass of water.
Was still thanked, and the words after that seemed to be... goodbye!
The phone rang, it was a call from someone tasked to keep an eye on Wen Fei’s situation in the castle.
At that moment, a sharp pain shot through Gu Yuan’s heart, as if something was gradually being stripped away, she likely realized what it was...
"Turn around."
The car had just driven a short distance, the driver obeyed Gu Yuan’s words and turned around.
Returning to the castle, Gu Yuan went back to the living room where Wen Fei was.
Upon entering, when Gu Yuan saw the figure lying quietly in bed, hands calmly resting on the abdomen, her step forward felt as heavy as if it had been filled with lead...
