The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals
Chapter 79: A Monkey Snatched a Baby
Renee Jennings’s words were exactly what the audience wanted to ask.
[Begonia isn’t a good mother.]
[Poor Stella is completely innocent.]
Begonia frowned, seemingly contemplating how to answer.
Just then, Stella posted a comment.
[Host, thank you. To be honest, the answer doesn’t matter anymore.]
[I’ve had a lot of time to think these past two months. I don’t blame my mom.]
[If my mom needs me, I’ll fulfill my duties as a daughter.]
「A women’s dorm in a Zenvia university.」
Stella pulled the blanket over her head. As she watched the incredibly familiar face on the screen, tears silently streamed from the corners of her eyes.
No one knew her mother better than she did. Her silence was, in itself, the answer.
When Begonia saw her daughter’s comments, she breathed a sigh of relief.
’Good. As long as Stella is willing to do her duty, she can support me in my old age.’
A smile appeared on her previously grim face. "Stella, come home this weekend, then."
[Okay.]
Begonia glanced at Stella’s reply, then turned back to Renee Jennings. The smile vanished from her face, and with a slight frown, she abruptly ended the connection.
[She’s so rude!]
[This script sucks! I’m not happy with this ending at all!]
[The last one was way more satisfying~~~]
The audience still thought this was all a script orchestrated by Renee Jennings.
She felt helpless but didn’t bother explaining again.
[System 009: Congratulations on completing Level 1 Mission "Collect Two Small Animals’ Wishes." Reward granted: Hedgehog Family Dictionary.]
With the mission complete, a small smile played on Renee Jennings’s lips. She announced cheerfully, "That’s all for today’s stream."
[Huh??? You’re ending the stream already?]
[Don’t go, Host! Give us a couple more stories! I haven’t even finished my popcorn!]
[What time are you streaming tomorrow?]
"I’m not streaming tomorrow." Renee Jennings waved at the camera. "Stream’s over. Goodbye, everyone."
She mercilessly ended the stream amid her audience’s reluctant pleas for her to stay.
Renee Jennings raised her arms and stretched lazily. A glance at the time showed it was already two in the morning.
’It’s so late!’
Renee Jennings decided she would sleep in tomorrow.
However, things rarely go according to plan. Just before nine, she was woken by a phone call.
Renee Jennings fumbled for the phone on her nightstand, groggily opening her eyes.
When she saw Henry Stark’s name on the caller ID, much of her drowsiness vanished.
She sat up and cleared her throat before answering. "Henry?"
"Renee, I’m so sorry to bother you while you’re resting." Henry Stark’s voice was tinged with urgency. "There’s an emergency, and I need your help. I’m already on my way to Blissborne Garden. I’ll be there in ten minutes."
"Got it." Renee Jennings was wide awake now, her groggy eyes clearing. "I’ll get ready and come down immediately."
After hanging up, she threw back the covers and jumped out of bed. She rushed into the bathroom to wash up before returning to her room to change clothes efficiently.
She put on a pink sweatsuit and casually threw a black, mid-length trench coat over it. Tying her long, curly hair into a neat ponytail, she looked both refreshing and eye-catching.
"I’m heading out! I probably won’t be home for lunch," Renee Jennings announced as she opened her bedroom door and walked out.
As she finished putting on her shoes, Diana Jennings handed her a paper bag. "Renee, I packed your breakfast. You can eat it on the way."
"Thanks, sis!" Renee Jennings accepted it with a wide smile and even blew her a kiss. "Love you~"
Diana Jennings watched her figure disappear around the bend in the staircase before closing the door.
Renee Jennings hurried toward the entrance of the residential complex, paper bag in hand.
Just as she arrived, Henry Stark’s car pulled up.
Due to the urgency of the situation, two motorcycle officers were clearing a path for them up ahead.
Renee Jennings got into the car and listened to Henry Stark speak while eating the breakfast Diana Jennings had prepared.
"A few wild monkeys from Wylern Peak suddenly left the mountains and entered the city. They’ve been causing a lot of trouble for the public, and one of them snatched a baby. It carried the infant up to the rooftop of a nine-story building."
Hearing this, Renee Jennings turned to stare at him in shock. "That’s incredibly dangerous!"
"It is." Henry Stark’s brow was furrowed, his voice grave and worried. "The baby’s family is frantic. The grandparents fainted from the shock. We don’t dare make any sudden moves for fear of startling the monkey and endangering the baby. That’s why we have to ask for your help to communicate with it."
’Monkeys...’
Renee Jennings furrowed her brow and began searching her system’s animal dictionary database.
She breathed a small sigh of relief when she found the monkey dictionary.
When she didn’t say anything, Henry Stark grew inexplicably nervous. "Can you communicate with monkeys?"
Renee Jennings quickly replied, "I can."
Her answer allowed Henry Stark to breathe a little easier. "That’s good."
With the motorcycle escort clearing the way, the car quickly arrived at the scene: 118 Lydell Road in the Rylan Bay District.
The area was full of buildings slated for demolition. The police had cordoned off the area, and the fire department had deployed rescue air cushions around the base of the building.
The ground below was swarming with onlookers, and some news reporters had even carried their cameras to the rooftops of neighboring buildings to get a better shot.
Renee Jennings looked up and could vaguely make out the monkey sitting on the rooftop guardrail, clutching a small baby.
Her heart lurched, terrified that the monkey would loosen its grip and drop the baby.
"My baby... Please, save my baby!"
"I’m begging you, you have to save my child!"
"Please, God, please protect our Sweetie and keep her safe..."
The baby’s parents were a sobbing mess, kneeling helplessly on the ground. No matter who tried to pull them up, they refused to move.
Even though Renee Jennings had no connection to the baby, her heart ached for them.
When Kyle Morgan saw Renee Jennings arrive, he quickly went to comfort the poor new parents. "Please, get up first. The animal consultant we called has arrived. We’ll have her go up and communicate with the monkey. We’ll do everything we can to bring your child down safely."
"Where is the animal consultant?" Hope sparked in the new parents’ eyes.
Kyle Morgan glanced at Renee Jennings, hesitating for a moment.
’If Renee Jennings’s communication with the monkey failed... some of the more extreme parents might blame her for harming their child and grow to resent her.’
While Kyle Morgan was still hesitating, Henry Stark was already leading Renee Jennings into the residential building.
"The animal consultant is already on her way up," he answered.
Renee Jennings followed Henry Stark and his team up the stairs to the ninth-floor rooftop, where a baby’s cries echoed in the wind.
"WAAAHHH..."
Looking at the macaque’s back, Renee Jennings’s heart pounded and her palms grew clammy.
She was very nervous.
The macaque’s position was simply too precarious.
’She was afraid that if she spoke, she might startle it, and its grip would loosen...’
Renee Jennings took several deep breaths, trying to compose herself. Her lips moved, but no sound came out.
Henry Stark could understand her nervousness; he was just as tense himself.
One of the firefighters who had come upstairs with them stared at Renee Jennings, his brow furrowed in deep skepticism.
’An animal consultant this young? What experience could she possibly have?’
’Calling her in to communicate with a macaque is just absurd.’
Ethan Hawthorne, the captain leading the fire squad, said grimly, "Animal consultant? Can we stop wasting precious rescue time!"
