Chapter 331: Harvesting Monster Cores

Adam didn’t hesitate. He sat cross-legged on the cold stone floor, surrounded by the oppressive darkness, and began consuming the monster cores one by one.

The first core was from the Minotaur King. It was larger than the others, pulsing with a deep, crimson light that seemed to throb like a heartbeat. Adam brought it to his lips and swallowed.

[Minotaur King Core Consumed.]

[Skill Fragment Acquired: Berserker’s Bloodlust (1.0/1.0)]

[Effect: When health drops below 30%, all physical stats increase by 25%. Stackable with other buffs. Duration: 30 seconds. Cooldown: 5 minutes.]

Adam frowned. "Berserker’s Bloodlust... It’s strong, but only activates when I’m near death. Risky, but useful as a last resort."

He moved on to the next core—a pale, shimmering blue orb from one of the Stone Basilisks.

[Stone Basilisk Core Consumed.]

[Skill Fragment Acquired: Ancient Might (1.0/1.0)]

[Effect: The user’s physical attacks carry a fraction of the ancient basilisk’s power. Each strike applies a stacking debuff that reduces the target’s physical defense by 3% per hit, up to a maximum of 30%. Duration: 10 seconds per stack.]

Adam’s eyes widened slightly. "Ancient Might... a stacking defense debuff. That’s actually really good."

He consumed the next core—a dark, almost translucent orb from one of the Shadow Hounds.

[Shadow Hound Core Consumed.]

[Skill Fragment Acquired: Ethereal Bite (1.0/1.0)]

[Effect: The user’s attacks ignore 15% of the target’s physical defense. Additionally, each successful strike applies a stacking debuff that reduces the target’s movement speed by 5% per hit, up to a maximum of 30%. Duration: 8 seconds per stack.]

[Skill Fragment Acquired: Scent of Prey (1.0/1.0)]

[Effect: The user’s senses become hyper-tuned to wounded or weakened prey. When targeting enemies below 50% health, attack speed and critical strike chance increase by 15%. Stacks with other buffs.]

Adam’s lips curved into a satisfied smile. "Ethereal Bite... ignores defense and slows them down. And Scent of Prey... a finishing skill."

Then the system notifications appeared, cascading across his vision. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

[Skill Resonance Detected!]

[Ancient Might (1.0/1.0) + Monarch’s Aegis (Passive) are resonating.]

[Compatible skill fragments detected. Merging...]

[New Passive Skill Synthesized: Aegis of the Colossus]

[Effect: The user’s defensive capabilities are elevated to legendary levels. Grants resistance to all elemental damage types (fire, ice, lightning, light, dark, etc.). The user’s physical defense is permanently increased. In addition, the Aegis scales with the user’s offensive power—the more damage the user deals, the tougher the Aegis becomes. This effect stacks up to 5 times, with each stack granting an additional 5% damage reduction.]

Adam’s eyes widened. "Aegis of the Colossus... resistance to all elemental damage. And it scales with my attack power. This is incredible."

[Skill Resonance Detected!]

[Ethereal Bite (1.0/1.0) + Shadow Lance (Active) are resonating.]

[Compatible skill fragments detected. Merging...]

[New Active Skill Synthesized: Abyssal Claw]

[Effect: The user manifests claws of solidified shadow and void energy. Can be used for devastating melee strikes or launched as ranged projectiles. Each hit ignores 20% of the target’s physical defense and applies a stacking debuff that reduces the target’s movement speed by 10% per hit, up to a maximum of 40%. Additionally, the void energy corrodes the target’s armor and flesh, dealing moderate damage over time for 5 seconds. The corrosion effect stacks up to 3 times.]

Adam flexed his fingers, and dark energy coiled around them, forming claws of solidified shadow. "Abyssal Claw... melee and ranged. And it ignores defense, slows them down, and corrodes their armor. This is perfect."

[Skill Resonance Detected!]

[Scent of Prey (1.0/1.0) + Hunter’s Tri-Sense (Passive) are resonating.]

[Compatible skill fragments detected. Merging...]

[New Passive Skill Synthesized: Apex Instinct]

[Effect: The user’s combat instincts are elevated to a primal, predatory level. Movement prediction becomes second nature—the user can read an opponent’s intent before they act, anticipating their attacks and movements with near-perfect accuracy. The user also gains a 20% bonus to attack speed and critical strike chance when engaging enemies below 50% health. This sense also extends to threats, granting a 5% chance to instinctively avoid fatal blows.]

Adam stood in the darkness, his body thrumming with new power. The skills had settled into his bones, becoming as natural as breathing. He flexed his hands, and Abyssal Claws materialized around his fingers, dark and lethal.

Adam’s lips curled into a predatory smile as he flexed his new claws.

"Alright. Time to carve through these monsters."

He activated Abyssal Step. His body melted into the shadow beneath his feet, moving through the darkness like a ghost, emerging silently from the shadow of a broken pillar just fifty meters away.

The three guardians sensed him immediately—their forms shifting, weapons raised, ready to strike.

"Tch. You really are vigilant," Adam muttered. "But that just makes this more fun."

Adam stepped forward into the open, making no effort to hide.

"Hey, guardians. Hope you’re ready to be dismantled."

He saw one move—the Nightwraith, vanishing into the shadows and reappearing behind him, its claws reaching for his throat, ready to drain his life force. But Adam had already anticipated it.

Apex Instinct flared, his body moving before his mind could even register the attack. He twisted, dodging the strike by a hair’s breadth, and his claws extended, slashing across the Nightwraith’s chest with devastating precision.

The Void creature let out a distorted screech, its form flickering as Abyssal Claw’s corrosive energy bit deep into its spectral flesh.

Adam turned toward the Red Templar, a cruel smirk on his face. "Too slow!"

The Red Templar lunged, its massive greatsword of solidified darkness sweeping toward Adam’s head.

"Seriously?" Adam dodged easily, his movements fluid and untouchable. "Is that the best you can do?"

He lashed out with Abyssal Claw, dark energy raking across the Templar’s chestplate, leaving deep gouges in the corrupted armor. The Templar stumbled back, roaring in fury.

Before Adam could press the advantage, a sudden wave of shadow magic washed over him from his blind spot—Vacant Eyes had joined the attack.

CRACK!

Aegis of the Colossus flared to life, a shimmering barrier of layered, golden energy wrapping around Adam’s body just as the shadow bolt struck him. The attack dispersed harmlessly against the shield.

Adam’s eyes narrowed as he reevaluated his position. He retreated a few steps, watching the three guardians reassess their formation.

"Apex Instinct isn’t perfect," he said quietly, his eyes fixed on Vacant Eyes. "I can only predict attacks I can see coming. That one got past me. But that’s fine, my defenses handled it."

Adam flexed his claws, the dark energy around them pulsing eagerly.

"I’m still faster, stronger, and more prepared than you think. Now let’s see how long you can keep up."
