"Oh..."

However, despite outwardly appearing calm, something was clearly bothering him. The image of the woman seated beside Gideon continued lingering in his mind, especially that strangely familiar figure he had only managed to glimpse for a brief second before the door closed.

After a short pause, he pulled out his phone and quickly dialed a number.

The call rang once.

Then twice.

And again.

Yet no one answered.

His brows slowly furrowed as he redialed several more times, but the only thing greeting him each attempt was the endless ringing echoing through the receiver before the automated system finally responded coldly.

"The number you have dialed is currently out of coverage area..."

The man lowered the phone slightly, his expression turning more thoughtful than before. In the end, he gave up on calling altogether and instead opened his messages before quickly typing something out to send to the other party.

"Nathan, I never knew Ashley was here in Maple Leaf City. What? Are your pack and the Black Mountain Pack trying to get a piece of the pie here, too?"

The man smirked faintly as he typed out the message and sent it.

Although Nathan’s phone appeared to be turned off and the earlier calls had failed to connect, he was not worried in the slightest. He already knew it would probably take some time before Nathan eventually saw the message.

Still, instead of putting his phone away, the man’s grin only widened with amusement as another thought crossed his mind.

"And did you and Ashley fall out? How come I heard she’s with another man now?"

After sending the second message, a mocking chuckle escaped his lips. It was obvious he was deliberately trying to provoke Nathan. After all, the two of them had always been enemies.

More than anyone else, he knew exactly where Nathan’s sore spot lay, and that weakness had always been Ashley.

Unfortunately, because he belonged to a different pack and had been away for so long, he was not fully aware of everything that had happened between Ashley, Nathan, and the York family.

The only things he knew were fragments of gossip that had spread through their world months ago, so he didn’t know that Nathan had accepted Maddison as his fated mate and that Ashley had supposedly died afterward.

As for why he remained so uninformed, it was because he himself had been temporarily exiled from his pack. His father had sent him into the human world under the excuse of expanding the pack’s business operations and securing a better future for their people.

In reality, however, it was also a form of punishment. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Back then, his constant clashes with Nathan had nearly escalated into a serious conflict between their packs. Had things continued spiraling out of control, Nathan might have directly retaliated against his own pack.

To prevent that outcome, his father had decisively removed him from the territory altogether.

And because of that forced separation, Nathan’s long-time nemesis had unknowingly missed the massive upheaval currently shaking their supernatural world.

Truthfully, he was not even completely certain that the woman sitting beside Gideon was really the Ashley he knew. He had only seen her back and caught a brief glimpse of her figure before the door closed, so there was still a possibility that it was merely someone with a similar build and silhouette.

But he did not care.

Whether the information he sent Nathan was true or false hardly mattered to him at all. His real purpose was simply to provoke Nathan and stir trouble between him and Ashley. In fact, if the misunderstanding truly succeeded in ruining their relationship, then it would only benefit him.

After all, the real reason behind the long-standing hostility between him and Nathan had never been as simple as pack rivalry.

It was Ashley.

Ever since they were young, he had wanted Ashley to become his chosen mate. Unfortunately for him, Ashley’s attention had always been fixed on Nathan instead. No matter how hard he tried to compete, Nathan was always the one she favored.

That lingering bitterness gradually twisted into resentment over the years, causing him to constantly challenge Nathan, undermine him, and look for faults in everything he did.

Their rivalry eventually escalated to the point where it nearly dragged both packs into direct conflict, ultimately resulting in his temporary exile from pack territory.

Fortunately, despite the punishment, his position remained secure. He was still the son of an Alpha. Once his father deemed his punishment sufficient and their business expansion in the human world stabilized, he would eventually return home. By then, his father planned to step down and hand the leadership of the pack over to him.

And once he became the new Alpha, he intended to challenge Nathan again.

This time, however, not merely out of pride or rivalry but to take Ashley away from him completely.

Of course, that was assuming Ashley and Nathan had not yet officially mated and married by then.

Unfortunately, despite all his careful planning and confidence in his schemes, he was already a little too late. Because he had been isolated from werewolf society for so long, he remained completely unaware of how drastically the situation surrounding Nathan and Ashley had already changed.

Meanwhile, Nathan himself had no idea that someone was desperately trying to contact him.

At that very moment, in his Pack’s territory, had already descended into utter chaos. Nathan’s phone, which had been continuously ringing from the repeated calls and messages, had long since been ignored amidst the madness until the battery eventually died completely.

And the reason for that chaos was Nathan himself.

Deep within the territory, the enraged Alpha was currently wreaking havoc like a beast that had completely lost control of its sanity. The terrifying pressure of his Alpha aura blanketed the area heavily, sending fear through the entire pack as violent growls and destruction echoed across the grounds.

Several warriors had already been seriously injured while trying to restrain him. Some were thrown aside by sheer brute force, while others suffered claw wounds from getting too close during his rampage. By now, more than a dozen pack warriors were either wounded or struggling to recover.

The she-wolves inside the territory hurriedly evacuated the younger pups farther away from the danger zone, afraid they might accidentally get caught in Nathan’s uncontrollable fury. Panic and fear spread throughout the pack as no one knew how long the rampage would continue.

At the center of the chaos, Nathan’s Beta led several elite warriors in wolf form as they desperately tried to stop their Alpha from causing further destruction. Beside them, even Maddison had transformed into her wolf form, attempting to calm Nathan down despite the danger surrounding him.

Yet Nathan seemed completely beyond reason at that point, as though something inside him had finally snapped.

"Alpha, calm down..." Felix tried once again for what felt like the hundredth time, desperately attempting to reach Nathan through their mindlink.

But even now, there was still no response.

The connection felt strangely blocked, as though Nathan had unconsciously severed himself from everyone around him. No matter how hard Felix pushed through the link, all he was met with was violent rage and chaotic emotions that made it impossible to properly connect with his Alpha’s mind.
