The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse
Chapter 1513: If Arrogance Were a Person
Before coming to the academy, Klaus knew he would find trouble, so he prepared well.
As the top academy in the Human Universe, he realized he would be walking into a pool of some of the most talented warriors in the younger generation.
While he is undisputed, he wasn’t about to look down on everyone.
But who is Klaus, if not the most arrogant and annoying person the universe has ever seen?
Looking up at the three demigods, a part of him first assessed their strength and realized all three of them are much stronger than the demigods he faced in the Jade Nest.
But that changes nothing, not when he had already defeated them hundreds of times in his head.
’A little bit of show-off to announce my arrival wouldn’t hurt anyone.’ he smiled inwardly.
If only Klaus knew that, seated somewhere in the academy watching this confrontation, are the Heads of the Three Colleges and some of the top students, perhaps he would have done more than he had planned for these three demigods.
Whatever happened today would be witnessed by everyone, both within and outside the academy. After all, this confrontation was being streamed on both Uniweb and inside the Dark Space.
"After being trashed by the Paragon, I never expected you to show your face here, Renegade Hunter."
"Indeed, I learned you were being arrogant at first, claiming you don’t need the academy, that you are a Zorvian heir. However, after you were kicked out by your family and knocked down by the Paragon, you now know where to run to."
"What an arrogant bastard. I wonder if you think you are better than everyone present here."
The three demigods made sure from the start that they would pit Klaus against the entire academy. This way, if he slips up, he would become the enemy of the entire academy.
But they made one mistake.
Klaus is someone who doesn’t care about others’ feelings. His ego is too large to look up to these bugs. By creating the opening for him, they had now given him the moral high ground to blow his own horn.
He turned to Eiko and smiled. "Let me handle these bugs first, then we can continue our discussion."
Eiko nodded, though Klaus could tell she was shaken by the sudden appearance of the three demigods and several other students.
Rising off his feet, Klaus flew into the air and locked gazes with the three demigods.
"What, do you want to fight?" one of them pointed his finger at Klaus, releasing a bit of his demigod aura.
Klaus smirked and answered, "I don’t fight to see who is stronger; I fight to kill, so if you have a death wish, arrange a deathmatch, and I would happily send you off to the afterlife.
That said, today is my first day, so let’s try not to shed each other’s blood. Though I doubt my blood would be spilled, not if I spill yours first."
The first demigod’s face twisted with anger. "Are you mocking me?"
"Isn’t that obvious? I have just arrived, yet here you are blocking my path because what, some idiot too high and mighty to face me sent you to test the waters."
Klaus made a thumbs-up and pointed it down. "Too bad, idiots. From where I stand, I see myself as better than everyone. If you don’t believe me, you can challenge me to a deathmatch."
Klaus paused and, as if remembering something, he grinned, the look of evil appearing in his eyes. "Oh, if you want to test my strength, we can do so through a deathmatch where I face the three of you at the same time."
At the mention of deathmatch twice in a row, everyone felt a chill run down their spine.
"Is this kid alright in the head? Why does he only want a deathmatch?"
"True, the Dark Space is there to challenge each other. Why opt for a deathmatch instead?"
"Is he secretly a demon prince sent here to kill the prodigies of the Human Universe?"
"That..."
Many started sharing their thoughts both in person and online.
Klaus, who could hear their words, merely smiled and continued with what he wanted to say in the first place.
"First of all, I am here to improve my Engineering Skills, so you losers can rest assured, I had no plans to compete for any ranking. However, if you want to die, you can challenge me to a deathmatch."
"Second, if you want to face me, at least have the decency to come in person or send better opponents. At this pace, you losers are making me look like a bully."
Klaus raised his hand and gestured down.
"Heavens Engine."
*BUZZ*
*BOOM*
The three demigods crashed to the ground, their knees and arms digging into it. All three layers of the heavens engine were activated, forcing them to their knees.
"I have only lived for 24 years, but at every turn, I face losers like you who think just because your daddy said you are the best, that it is true.
News flash, your Daddy lied to you. In my eyes, y’all are lacking."
A green Immortal Ring borrowed from one of his Beast companions appeared, and Klaus exploded it with a clench of his fist, sending the energy into the Heavens Engine.
The sudden addition of the essence caused the three demigods to lie flat on their bellies. Bones in their bodies started to break, sending chills down everyone’s spine.
"In the vast universe out there, there are people like you, and there are people like me born to look down on you lot. So the next time you want to look down on me, ask yourself, can a loser like Supreme Elder Juo look down on the Burning Angel?"
Klaus flicked his white hair back and wore a smug expression. "Even Big Brother Burning Angel looks up to me—"
"Ouch—"
Klaus muttered, his right hand touching his cheek, where a light cut had appeared. Turning his gaze to the left, he smirked and turned away.
Somewhere in the void, the Burning Angel and Lord Victor also smirked before vanishing away.
It appeared he had decided to look out for Klaus until he reached the academy before leaving for wherever he planned to take Lord Victor.
Meanwhile, all over the academy, every student was left in shock, some shivering and trembling as they watched the three demigods lie flat on the ground.
The pressure coming from the Heavens Engine made many take a few steps back.
Klaus flew down and stopped just when he was a meter from the three demigods. The pressure from the Heavens Engine had no effect on him.
"Remember this, I didn’t come to the academy to recover my image. I am here to make people like you look good. I have to admit the Paragon had knocked me off my high horse, but until we meet again, nobody can really tell who among the two of us is the strongest.
That said, none of you qualify to challenge me, so find your corner and hide there like little bitches. Disobey, and I would happily accept your deathmatch."
As if to make matters worse, Bloodwork appeared, and at once, a potent blood aura filled the space, causing many to turn pale.
Klaus turned, looked at his unruly scythe, and smirked. "No killing today, Bloodwork."
"Oh, that is unfortunate," Bloodwork muttered, dissatisfied, and vanished back into Klaus’s soul sea. It was after he left that color began to return to everyone’s faces.
"It would be wise to free those three before they actually end up dying," a voice came from the void, accompanied by rains of pink lotuses that made everyone sigh in relief, the fear on their faces vanishing.
The void cracked, and a pink-haired lady clad in a flowing white dress, a headpiece, and a gentle smile walked out, each step landing on a pink lotus flower.
