Chapter 39: Astral Shroud Artefact

Inside the room, Leonart was sitting at his desk, and the old man stood up with a smile once he saw the princess.

"Your highness, Vivian. It’s an honor to have you in my academy."

"Hmph, don’t you mean Verati’s academy?"

Leonart laughed at the Princess’ sharp response, and he nodded calmly.

"Hmm, of course it is Verati’s academy, but I am the headmaster, so I believe it is mine as well."

Leonart rubbed his beard wisely, and Vivian couldn’t stop herself from laughing in amusement as she quickly walked up to Leonart and hugged him!

"It’s nice to see you again, old man Leo."

Leonart patted Vivian on her back gently.

"It’s good to see you as well, Vivian. Please have a seat. I was shocked when I got the message about your visit from your father. Dare I say, it was the last thing I expected. But I suppose it’s not a coincidence that you came to visit right after Percival began working here."

Vivian’s cheeks reddened when she saw the teasing smile on Leonart’s face, and she bowed her head slightly. Behind Vivian, Rosa was watching the interaction with complete confusion on her face, and when Rosa saw the shy look on Vivian’s face, Rosa almost lost her composure! That was not the look of a girl who just came to see a friend! It was the look of a girl in love!

’Don’t tell me the princess is actually in love with this librarian! Is he the person she’s been talking about all this time!?’

From previous conversations, Rosa could remember there was a mysterious man that the princess had a crush on, and the princess was always talking about this magnificent gentleman whenever they were together at balls or events. But no matter how much Rosa asked, the princess never told her who this mysterious man was, so Rosa just thought that it was some young noble or a high-ranking member of the military! Rosa could’ve never guessed that it was the librarian!

Vivian spoke up with a shy smile.

"I couldn’t wait to see him. It’s been a long time."

Leonart smiled, and he nodded along. Leonart was an old man, but he had also been young once, so he understood the desires of a young maiden’s heart! But even though Leonart didn’t mind leaving Vivian to go and see Percy, there were a few issues that they had to deal with first.

"Your Highness, before you leave to see him, I think we need to discuss the details of your stay here. Although you are more than entitled to go wherever you please in this academy, I need you to remember that you are a member of the royal family; therefore, your presence can cause quite a stir amongst the students if they recognize you."

Vivian frowned slightly.

"Are you saying I need some sort of disguise?"

"Well, yes, that is exactly what I am saying. You might not appreciate it, but I think it is a necessity to ensure the student body isn’t distracted during your visit. I just wanted to know if you had any problems with that."

The princess looked away for a moment before she asked.

"What sort of disguise?"

Leonart brought out a box and presented it to the princess, and she opened it to see a beautiful silver necklace inside it! Leonart spoke up calmly.

"That necklace is the [Astral Shroud] artefact. It can change the appearance of whoever wears it and make them appear as someone else to those around them. It’ll be difficult to explain to the students if they were to see their princess running around the academy, so I think it’s best for you to use this to hide so you can spend time with Percival without having to worry about anything. It’s a B-Rank illusory artefact, so only those with high-ranking detection spells should be able to see through it."

Vivian stared at the necklace with awe in her eyes, and she couldn’t help but appreciate how beautiful it was! This necklace was so pretty! Vivian thought that the disguise she would have to wear was some sort of mask or cape that would be very difficult to move in! A lot of the illusion artefacts that Vivian had seen lately had been like that, and Vivian wouldn’t have been happy about wearing that since she wanted to look as beautiful as possible when she met Percy! But since this necklace was similar to simple jewelry, it was perfect!

"Will Percy be able to see through it?"

Vivian suddenly asked this question with a playful smile on her face, and the headmaster raised a brow and responded with a question of his own.

"What do you think, your highness?"

Vivian pouted immediately, and she nodded. It was obvious that someone like Percy wouldn’t fall for a low-level artefact like this. Percival was far too strong for that! But it didn’t matter! Vivian had been planning to play some sort of trick on Percy while wearing the artefact, but she would just settle for spending time with him without anyone knowing it was her!

Vivian looked up at Leonart, and she smiled!

"Thank you so much, headmaster. I’ll make sure to take good care of it!"

Leonart nodded kindly, and he simply told the princess that she could return the necklace to him after she was done with her visit. Illusionary necklaces like this were very rare, so she had to take very good care of it! Vivian nodded, and she asked Fio to help her put it on! The maid came forward to do just that, and once she had it on, Vivian’s presence seemed to suddenly reduce significantly!

It felt like Vivian was only a ghost in the room, or some sort of passing phantom! And at the same time, her appearance quickly changed to resemble a plain girl with dark brown hair and a cute round face! Anyone who saw her right now would think that she was just another visitor who came from the main city, and anyone without a high-level detection skill wouldn’t even be able to see her at all!

Vivian touched the necklace and smiled at Rosa.

"How does it look?"

Rosa smiled back at her friend.

"You look beautiful, Vivian. Absolutely radiant."

Vivian’s cheeks reddened happily, and she twirled around smoothly before she finally turned to Leonart and curtsied!

"Thank you, headmaster. I surely won’t forget your generosity."

Leonart just waved the thanks away, and he told Vivian that she didn’t have to worry about that. It was the older generations’ duty to watch over the young ones after all, so he was simply doing his job!

Vivian thanked Leonart one more time before she quickly bid him goodbye and started heading towards the door! Maid Fio curtsied to the headmaster and Rosa as well before she ran after her princess! Once the two of them were gone, Rosaline finally turned to her grandfather and asked.

"Who in the world is this librarian, grandfather? First, you stick your neck out for him to help him land his job, and now the princess seems completely infatuated by his existence. He’s not a normal person at all, is he? Is he some sort of hidden noble I don’t know about?"

Leonart just laughed as he tapped his pen on the table.

"I already told you, Rosa. If you want to know more about him, then you will have to ask him yourself. It is not my secret to tell."

Rosa pouted at her grandfather’s evasive attitude before she decided that her grandfather was right. There was no point in wondering about the librarian’s identity! All she had to do was speak to him herself!
