The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 926: High Fever Recurs
"Is there any serious problem with Tang’s foot?"
After Liu Banxia finished showering, Qiaoqiao asked.
"If she can just wait patiently to recover, then there’s no problem. But if she’s still thinking about shooting the film right now, it could become a problem."
Liu Banxia lay down on the bed, gathering the four bouncing around onto one side.
"This kind of injury, it’s not that severe. Right after the injury, apply a cold compress and keep it still. After a couple of days, use a hot compress, move a bit, massage it a few times, and she’ll almost be fine."
"But she won’t, she must be pushing herself to keep filming. I don’t know how the film turns out, but her foot injury definitely got worse. Now I can slowly straighten her fascia, but it still requires a recovery period."
"If she insists on risking it to keep filming during this time, even a god couldn’t help. Any injury is afraid of recurrence, just like your small joint dislocation; occasionally it might dislocate, but if it happens often, that joint will have problems."
"If she worsens this injury, it will hurt every now and then in the future, even a little more walking will hurt. By that time it’ll be too late, hard to treat."
"Tsk, tsk, it seems Tang really has to be more careful." Qiaoqiao said.
"Oh, my legs feel tired, give me a leg massage too. What to do, these two in my belly are getting stronger and stronger, I can hardly carry them anymore."
"As long as you are careful with your movements and get some appropriate activity. Do not rush around like you did before. Even if you’re a quick person, now you have to take it slow." Liu Banxia said.
"Just like Tang Dou’s four pups, they don’t walk fast either. Probably because their bellies are big too; they probably can’t even see their own hind legs."
Qiaoqiao lightly slapped his arm, as if saying he compared her to little pigs. She was better than them in everything, able to do whatever she wanted.
"Auntie Tong said it’ll become more inconvenient to go upstairs, it’s best to stay in the guest room downstairs, what do we do?" Qiaoqiao asked.
"I think we should heed her advice, a guest room is still a room, really it’s all the same. The main thing is you’re carrying quite a load this time; if it were just one baby it might be okay, but two babies."
Qiaoqiao wrinkled her nose, "The guest room is a bit small, and there’s no TV. If I’m just staying in the room, I’ll have nothing to do, need to watch TV to pass the time."
"Then just get one installed, as long as you don’t keep fiddling with your phone. Anyway, now comfort is the priority; if we can sit, we won’t stand; if we can lie down, we won’t sit." Liu Banxia said.
"Alright then, we’ll move Tang Dou and their little nest down as well. Those five are my big bodyguards; if you dare to bully me, I’ll unleash the north, south, east, and west winds." Qiaoqiao said threateningly.
Liu Banxia reached out and grabbed one, maybe it was the east wind. Plump, with hazy little puppy eyes, not understanding what was happening.
"Why are you so useless? Even when I pick you up, you don’t bark, bad mark." Qiaoqiao poked its belly.
Maybe it was a bit ticklish, as its little paws twitched slightly. But it probably didn’t realize how round its belly was, just a symbolic twitch.
After putting the puppy down, Liu Banxia continued to rub Qiaoqiao’s legs. The swelling was not just a little; it was worse than before, as the two small babies were pressing on the inferior vena cava.
"During the day, don’t walk too much, and sleep on your side as much as possible. If you like lying flat, put the pups under your calves. This could help, and avoid sitting with your legs crossed."
"Now I give you a massage, but when the kids grow up, make them massage you, one each, and they won’t fight."
"Aww, I can’t bear to." Qiaoqiao pouted.
"But you can’t bear to use them, only to use me! I am your real husband. The kids are for fun, you’ve got to play with them." Liu Banxia said seriously.
"Haha, kids, did you hear that? When we grow up, we’ll team up to bully daddy." Qiaoqiao said with a wink.
"Look, look, I think they heard, working hard whether it’s little arms or legs, look at that."
Liu Banxia hurriedly put his head to her belly, and the little occupants inside seemed to be expressing their opinions. Before he fully experienced it, Tang Dou’s big face also came close, seeming to listen even more attentively than him.
"We’re helping you with your four pups now, when my kids arrive, you’ve also got to help with them." Liu Banxia said as he petted Tang Dou’s forehead.
Tang Dou just lay there with its head down, staying there even though it was a bit of a bother.
"You’re tired too, right? Go to bed, I can fall asleep just staying here for a bit." Qiaoqiao said.
"It’s okay, working at the hospital has gotten me used to it. I still need to massage your feet; the once pretty little feet are turning into mini pig’s trotters." Liu Banxia said.
Qiaoqiao gave him a look, though she was still a bit touched.
Liu Banxia’s eyes were full of bloodshot and big dark circles, which couldn’t be lied about. But she knew, if Liu Banxia wasn’t massaging her feet, he wouldn’t go to sleep either.
This was Liu Banxia’s daily routine; his wife was bringing a load for such a long time, so what’s giving a foot rub, or a leg massage?
This is the situation now; after another two months, even going to the bathroom will be a problem. There’s no choice but to call Yanzi for help, since she’s the best friend.
"Alright, put a pillow under my legs. I still prefer lying flat, otherwise it might press on the baby," Qiaoqiao said.
Liu Banxia quickly found a pillow and placed it under Qiaoqiao’s calves, elevating her legs to help improve blood circulation and alleviate some of the swelling.
With his head on the pillow, Liu Banxia originally planned to whisper something to Qiaoqiao that the little dogs wouldn’t overhear, but he couldn’t resist the powerful allure of sleep.
Within two minutes, snoring was already coming out.
Looking at this scene, Qiaoqiao found it both amusing and heart-aching. She had told him not to continue working as a doctor, but he kept doing it so enthusiastically.
The four little dogs seemed to have discovered a new world as they exerted themselves to climb from the side of the bed to Liu Banxia’s head, eagerly exploring the source of the sound.
Dragging the four little dogs to one side, they insisted on lying on the bed. It’s quite an effort to get up here once, and if they accidentally fall off, they’ll have to sleep on the floor all night.
To Tang Dou, the bed is not high at all. But to them? It’s an insurmountable mountain.
Of course, before moving these four little ones away, Qiaoqiao also took a moment to snap some pictures with her phone. This pretty scene is rare; it’s solid evidence that must be preserved.
She really wasn’t sleepy. If she’s tired during the day, she sleeps right away, but at night it feels a bit tougher. Now Liu Banxia is sleeping soundly, Tang Dou is sleeping soundly, and those four lazy little pups are sleeping soundly.
Earlier, they were investigating Liu Banxia’s snoring. Now? They’re sprawled out comfortably, adopting carefree sleep positions.
She was about to fiddle with her phone, but remembered Liu Banxia’s words and put it back. If you can’t sleep, just force yourself to sleep; eventually, you’ll drift off.
In a daze, Qiaoqiao wasn’t sure whether she was asleep or awake when Liu Banxia’s phone rang.
"Hello, this is Liu Banxia."
Before Qiaoqiao could figure it out, Liu Banxia had already picked up the call.
"Your patient’s temperature has risen again; it’s now at 41 degrees," Wang Chao’s voice came through.
"They’re having a bit of trouble breathing. I administered some antipyretics, oxygen, and ice packs, but the results don’t seem great; the patient’s somewhat delirious."
"What about the other indicators?" Liu Banxia quickly asked.
"The auscultation only revealed weak moist rales in the lungs, which weren’t there when I checked after dinner," Wang Chao replied.
Liu Banxia massaged his temples, "Try to lower the fever; 41 degrees is too high. Then run an ECG. I’m heading over now."
"Okay, I’ve already arranged for blood tests,"
Wang Chao said before hanging up.
"You’re awake? Go back to sleep. There’s a minor issue with a patient at the hospital; it’s like I’m on an early shift," Liu Banxia said softly when he saw Qiaoqiao sitting up.
"Just slept for a bit and you have to go back to the hospital." Qiaoqiao pouted.
"It’s okay, a short nap has fully recharged me. I haven’t slept less; it’s been three hours. Maybe I crave the hospital breakfast. I’ll eat more of today’s tea eggs," Liu Banxia said.
"Alright, wear your coat; it’s quite chilly at night. Drink a Red Bull before you go, so you won’t doze off on the road; it’s safer," Qiaoqiao quickly said.
"Stay put, that can of Red Bull will be gone in a gulp. Sleep tight and text me when you wake up tomorrow morning. The more lazy time, the better. Sleep is really important," Liu Banxia advised.
Qiaoqiao wrinkled her nose but obediently lay back down.
Liu Banxia went to the bathroom to splash his face and, following Qiaoqiao’s instructions, chugged the can of Red Bull, then quietly made his way out.
In the middle of the night, he didn’t want to disturb anyone else.
The patient’s condition is clearly off; the fever has been reduced but now there’s a sudden spike, indicating the illness is quite severe.
The easy solution would be to send the patient straight to the ICU. However, that feels a bit evasive. It’s not only adding to the ICU’s workload but also to the patient’s financial burden.
Liu Banxia left, but Qiaoqiao couldn’t fall asleep again, and the little dogs were also woken.
The four little pups groggily looked around, then exerted themselves to climb into Liu Banxia’s previously occupied spot. It’s warmer here, quite nice.
Qiaoqiao adjusted their positions and covered them with a blanket, leaving only four little heads exposed. She gleefully snapped another picture.
