Starting Cultivation in Wasteland
Chapter 891 - 761: The Confidence of the System (Second Update)
Qu Jianlei initially wanted to use the Illusion Technique, but there were too many opponents, which consumed Spiritual Power.
The Paranoid sat carelessly on a small cargo pallet, without even turning off the cabin’s night lamps.
The people who came down switched on the bright lights and immediately spotted the two of them. Two soldiers quickly drew their Laser Pistols, "Who are you?"
The Paranoid glanced at them coldly and spoke, "Turn off the lights!"
His words were utterly fearless, leaving the opposite party somewhat stunned.
However, shortly after, the two soldiers raised their gun barrels, pointing at them, "Surrender and don’t move!"
The military, at the end of the day, is different from ordinary violent organizations. Their duty is to obey orders, considering little when executing missions.
Under military orders, they can ignore some human factors.
Without saying a word, the Paranoid unleashed two waves of Spiritual Power, causing the two soldiers to grunt and fall to the ground.
The soldiers behind were greatly shocked by this and hid behind the cargo pallet, shouting, "Identify yourselves!"
"Come here yourselves and see," the Paranoid responded coldly, "I’m warning you, if you point those guns at us again, we’ll kill!"
After seven or eight seconds, a C-level soldier approached, maintaining a vigilant posture.
The Paranoid pulled out an ID and waved it at him, without saying a word.
The C-level soldier was visibly taken aback and then saluted, "Please hand over the credential."
The Paranoid tossed the ID over irritably.
Qu Jianlei also casually threw his ID over, though he sighed inwardly: People from the official system certainly carry themselves differently.
Though he considered dealing with the problem similarly, for some reason, he always had a subtle aversion to it.
The C-level soldier took the two IDs and left, returning about a minute later.
He returned the IDs and casually asked, "Why are the two officers in the cargo hold?"
Neither of them responded. After a while, finding Rhodiola rosea unresponsive, the Paranoid snorted, "Is that something you can ask?"
The C-level soldier saluted again and silently turned to leave.
Afterward, those people acted as if the two of them were not there. They inspected for about ten minutes and then left on their own.
Qu Jianlei and the Paranoid weren’t interested in saying anything, though the former couldn’t help but feel: The military certainly acts on orders.
Fortunately, the soldiers who came down to inspect were only C-level, not even B-level.
Presumably, no one realized that the two in the cargo hold were actually Supreme.
This was ultimately a minor episode, and soon the Starship left the jurisdiction of the entry and exit department.
A day and a half later, the Starship began to transition, and everything went smoothly.
After arriving at Celestial Sharp Star, the two disembarked from the Starship, and while passing through customs, Qu Jianlei instinctively used the Illusion Technique.
He just wasn’t used to being so high-profile.
But the Paranoid was different. At a taxi, he surprisingly glanced at Qu Jianlei, "Where’s your artificial intelligence?"
Qu Jianlei rolled his eyes at him and took out some Card Coin, "Problems solvable by money... What’s there to brag about?"
The two got into the taxi, and the Paranoid couldn’t help but ask again, "What’s the origin of your artificial intelligence?"
This question had been asked more than once.
Although Qu Jianlei was curious about this "origin" phrase, in order to maintain his composure, he never actively inquired.
He merely snorted, "Finding a place to eat is the priority."
While they ate, Little Lake had basically checked all the relevant information about Celestial Sharp Star.
Currently, Celestial Sharp also has two Supreme looking for Ran Bingluan, one from the Anomalous Management Division and one from the Divine Text Association, though it’s not necessary to elaborate.
Also, the Luo Family of Celestial Sharp Star has recently encountered a series of troubles.
Public information shows the troubles aren’t very severe, and the Luo Family is coping well, though there are still frequent conflicts.
Qu Jianlei could imagine that the Luo Family was recently investigated by the Divine Text Association, with some enemies trying to take advantage.
However, the Luo Family is a renowned Primordial Warrior family, naturally lacking neither connections nor support, though they are currently slightly passive.
Thinking of the little girl Luo Hanshuang, Qu Jianlei felt a bit uneasy.
Initially, it was purely a relationship between employer and employee. Supposedly, he completed the commission well, ending the business with no debt either way.
He had taken her into the Inner Circle, overachieving the task, resisting the temptation of the long sword and Barrier-Breaking Pill without breaking the contract.
Nonetheless, he also gained a lot of valuable items, especially the currently very useful Stone Milk.
Of course, he rightfully acquired these through his abilities.
But it couldn’t be denied that without Luo Hanshuang leading him into Celestial Hook Mist Mansion, he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to use his abilities.
Qu Jianlei struggled for a while but ultimately decided to ignore this matter, as the commission was complete.
The Luo Family has stood unshaken for many years, so they must have their own survival methods.
Indeed, if he were to intervene, it might attract bigger enemies, which wouldn’t necessarily be good for the Luo Family.
Then there was the news from Laval Clan where Pierre was.
The Laval Clan isn’t considered a major family; they haven’t had a thriving population. When Pierre was around, the entire family was just over seven hundred people.
Two hundred years later, the Laval Clan still has less than fifteen hundred people.
In an empire where families typically have seven or eight children on average, this birth rate is remarkably low.
However, the Laval Clan has a mystical aspect: the proportion of Awakened in this family is exceptionally high.
For instance, currently, the family has nearly thirty C-levels, five B-levels, and three A-levels.
Qu Jianlei highly suspects that this family has access to unknown resources, forcefully creating so many Awakened.
But the Laval family doesn’t appear to be particularly extravagant, so he asked the Paranoid if it was always like this in the past.
The Paranoid confidently answered that the family’s bloodline is indeed particularly prone to Awakening.
One of the reasons he was willing to take care of Pierre was also because he valued the uniqueness of the family’s genes.
In fact, many other families are willing to marry into the Laval Clan, hoping to acquire some exceptional genes.
However, the strange thing is, although the Laval Clan has a high proportion of Awakened, their mortality rate is also high.
With technology advanced to this extent, most injuries as long as treated promptly, it’s really difficult to die.
But the Laval family is an exception, with all sorts of bizarre deaths occurring within their family.
Crushed to death by falling objects from high above, hit by stray bullets, struck by lightning, drowned in water pits only twenty centimeters deep...
Such unheard-of ways to die, impossible to guard against, leading some to say that the Laval family is cursed.
So it’s normal that their family count is still under fifteen hundred.
The Laval Clan still lives in the same place they have for over two hundred years, never moving.
However, due to the family’s expansion, the entire living area has greatly increased.
This family has never been short of Awakened, so the neighbors around couldn’t afford to provoke them and chose to move away voluntarily.
The Paranoid, after listening to the news, thoughtfully nodded, "It seems Pierre hasn’t returned home."
That goes without saying, Pierre is not sure if he’s dead or alive; if he had returned home, he would have immediately mobilized them to move.
Supreme is already something the Laval family can’t afford to provoke, let alone what’s above Supreme.
Qu Jianlei sighed, "Unfortunately, there are very few records about Pierre."
This guy was one of the A-levels that emerged from the Laval family, and he was widely recognized as having the potential to impact Supreme, so his name should have been recorded in the family genealogy.
But there is little information about him, even the year of death is unclear—it’s not even certain whether he’s dead.
The Paranoid sneered, "Then let’s go to his home and capture some key figures to ask."
He harbors a deep resentment towards Pierre, and since he didn’t come to Celestial Hook before, it’s only too normal for him to vent his anger on the Laval family once here.
That night, they rushed to the Laval family’s small town.
This town is more than two hundred kilometers from Central City, with relatively convenient transportation, beautiful mountains and rivers, and sparsely populated landscapes.
The Laval family doesn’t live in concentrated housing; instead, they have nearly a hundred manors and small courtyards.
The smaller courtyards have only four or five people, while the larger ones house about ten to twenty people.
The largest manor has over two hundred people, yet within it are several small courtyards.
The head of the Laval family resides in this manor, but he is only a B-level Warrior.
Within this family, there is an elderly A-level, over one hundred and twenty years old, residing in a manor with sixty to seventy people.
Another A-level in his prime is responsible for overseeing the cemetery, warehouses, and liaising with the military, currently not in the town.
There’s yet another A-level, but he’s not on Celestial Sharp Star; this needs no further explanation.
Investigating the Laval family, Qu Jianlei didn’t even need to mobilize; the Paranoid was exceptionally enthusiastic all on his own.
Yet he managed to control himself, spending an entire night thoroughly examining the Laval family. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
However, he restrained himself and didn’t make a move, with the reasoning: "Let’s wait for that A-level to return, then act to avoid alerting the enemy."
Qu Jianlei couldn’t help but marvel, when a person becomes paranoid, it really is terrifying.
He introspects, if he were targeted by such a person, he’d probably have to sleep with one eye open.
Two days later, when the A-level returned, that night they stealthily took action, capturing five people.
Among them were two A-levels and three B-levels—representing all the mid to high-level combat power present in the Laval family, including the family head.
The remaining one A-level and two B-levels were each away on other matters, too far from the town to wait any longer.
The interrogation began with an ordinary B-level.
The Paranoid decisively used an excessive dose of "Truth Potion," saying, "If it turns him into an idiot, so be it."
Unfortunately, that B-level, in his stupor, only stated: he doesn’t know the whereabouts of Pierre, only that the person is missing.
Though his status within the Laval family isn’t low, about ancestors from two hundred years ago...is there really a need to know so much?
The Paranoid wasn’t disappointed but instead gave Qu Jianlei a peculiar smile, "Have you ever heard of the Soul Searching Skill?"
Qu Jianlei, upon hearing this, was somewhat surprised, "You even know how to do that?"
