Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love
Chapter 567 - 565: Won’t Disturb You and Sister-in-Law, Right?
With that, Lin Xi walked gracefully into the kitchen.
There was no way Xue Yang would let her work alone. He smiled and followed her inside.
Si Wen sat on the sofa, watching the incredibly compatible couple vying to do something as trivial as reheating dinner. She couldn’t help but click her tongue, though her eyes remained glued to the TV screen.
However, a flicker of envy in her eyes unintentionally betrayed her true feelings.
Lately, Si Wen had been going out with Sun Yufei a lot, experiencing different kinds of life. Although her days were full and interesting, she always felt like something was missing deep down. Every time she successfully taught a scumbag a lesson, an indescribable sense of emptiness would wash over her. No matter what she did, it seemed she had lost her former motivation. At times like these, she especially craved their public displays of affection to fill the void in her heart. It was as if only by seeing them happy could she truly feel that life was still worth loving and cherishing.
Before long, the aroma of food filled the entire living room.
Xue Yang carried two dishes that looked and smelled exquisite out of the kitchen and placed them steadily on the dining table.
Hearing the sounds, Si Wen turned her head, quickly switched off the TV, and got up to help set the table.
At home, neither Lin Xi nor Si Wen had to handle such chores themselves. Their housekeepers and nannies would prepare everything meticulously, only respectfully inviting them to the table when the meal was ready.
But at Xue Yang’s place, things were completely different. Not only did they have to pitch in, but they also cooked the meals themselves.
Despite this, the two young women never tired of it and enjoyed the unique pleasure. Sometimes, Si Wen even looked forward to visiting Xue Yang’s place to enjoy a dining experience so different from her usual one.
Once the food was ready, the three of them sat around the dining table.
Xue Yang had a habit of starting his meal with soup. Today’s was a carrot, lotus root, and pork rib soup that looked, smelled, and tasted exquisite.
Seeing Xue Yang lift the bowl to take a sip, Si Wen, though focused on her food, couldn’t help but steal glances in his direction.
Noticing this, Xue Yang deliberately paused and drew out his words, "This soup..."
"That’s right, yours truly made it," Si Wen announced, not letting him build any suspense.
Xue Yang nodded with a smile and praised her, "Not bad. A huge improvement over last time."
But Si Wen playfully retorted, "Are you implying the soup I made last time was bad?"
Xue Yang took another sip of the soup and answered honestly, "It was very salty."
Si Wen glared at him with feigned anger. "Oh, you! That’s not what you said last time."
"I was sparing your feelings last time."
"And what about this time? Are you afraid of hurting my feelings this time too?" Si Wen pressed.
Xue Yang shook his head. "Not this time. This time, it’s a genuine compliment."
Hearing this, a smug smile spread across Si Wen’s face. "Seeing as you have such good taste, I’ll forgive your ’mistake’ from before."
"Then I must thank Miss Si Wen for her magnanimity," Xue Yang responded with a smile.
Nearby, Lin Xi ate her meal quietly, occasionally looking up to watch Xue Yang and Si Wen bicker.
These two... every time they meet, they act like old friends reunited after a long separation, always needing to bicker a little to feel comfortable.
This lighthearted and joyful atmosphere made her feel very warm and cozy as well.
After dinner, Xue Yang offered to do the dishes.
This time, Lin Xi absolutely refused.
She insisted that he rest in the living room and watch some TV. She went into the kitchen herself, thoughtfully closing the door behind her to keep Xue Yang from coming back in.
Faced with Lin Xi’s insistence, Xue Yang had no choice but to oblige.
He walked over to the sofa and sat down next to Si Wen, soaking in the peace and comfort of being home after work.
Si Wen glanced at him and said, "I heard you went to a trendy clothing boutique today for the winter theme photoshoot?"
Xue Yang glanced back at her and replied with a smile, "Such big news, and you, the big boss, have to hear about it from a small fry like me?"
Si Wen chuckled teasingly. "Looks like I can’t slack off anymore. If I keep this up, your dear Xiao Xi’s heart is going to ache for you."
At her words, Xue Yang’s gaze drifted involuntarily toward the kitchen.
He saw Lin Xi wearing a pink apron, standing at the sink, and diligently washing the dishes.
Her figure looked particularly charming under the soft light. Even when doing mundane chores, she was a pleasant sight to behold.
In that moment, a warmth spread through Xue Yang’s heart. He felt that having such a wonderful and helpful partner like Lin Xi was truly one of life’s greatest blessings.
As they were chatting, Xue Yang’s phone suddenly rang.
He calmly took it out, glanced at the screen, and saw the caller ID read "Xue Xing."
He looked at Si Wen beside him, then answered the call. "Xing, it’s pretty late. What’s up?" There was a hint of affection in his voice.
Hearing Xue Xing’s name, Si Wen’s curiosity was immediately piqued. She subconsciously wanted to lean in and eavesdrop, but she thought better of it and held back.
Although she didn’t move physically closer, it was as if her ears had grown wings, staying "glued" to Xue Yang’s phone, trying to catch every single word from the other end.
She didn’t know why she was like this. It was just that whenever she heard the name "Xue Xing," she would involuntarily become extra attentive.
"...so that’s how you solve the problem. Do you get it?" Xue Yang’s voice drifted intermittently to Si Wen’s ears.
"I get it now. Thanks, Bro," Xue Xing’s voice on the other end was filled with gratitude, clearly satisfied with the answer.
Tonight was a rare evening off for Xue Xing, but a difficult problem had left him stumped.
He naturally thought to call his older brother for help.
Under Xue Yang’s patient guidance, the problem that had been troubling him was perfectly resolved.
"Si Wen is here, too. Want to say hi?" Xue Yang’s sudden mention of her caught Xue Xing off guard.
Still basking in the joy of solving his problem, Xue Xing was taken aback. He asked without thinking, "It’s so late, why is she still at your place?"
The moment the words left his mouth, he realized they could be misunderstood and hurriedly explained, "Bro, that’s not what I meant. I mean... it’s really late. Won’t she be disturbing you and Lin Xi?"
Xue Xing scratched his head, at a loss.
He felt like he was only digging himself into a deeper hole.
"Uh, Bro, it’s late. I’m going to bed. I have class tomorrow."
