Yi Yi covered her mouth in surprise, her eyes sparkling with disbelief. "I didn’t realize there was more to it. Could it have been the young mistress’s idea to make Chen Ying resign?"

Lu Peng gently shook his head, looking uncertain. "I’m not sure about that. In any case, it must have something to do with this matter."

Yi Yi couldn’t help but feel sorry for Chen Ying. "Chen Ying really got the short end of the stick," she said indignantly. "She clearly turned that guy down, but now she’s lost such a great job opportunity because of him. Men, sometimes they’re no good."

Lu Peng rolled over, switching their positions.

"Now is not the time to discuss this..."

After returning to Hui City, Wu Xiaoya immersed herself in overtime almost every night, working late into the evening.

Sometimes, the clock would strike ten, and she would still be buried in work. Other times, at the quiet hour of midnight, her office light was often the only one still on. It was rare to see her leave the office building before eight o’clock, looking relaxed.

On weekdays, she was like a tireless spinning top. Only at dusk on weekends, as the clock slowly approached eight, would she allow herself a moment’s rest, collecting her thoughts before heading home.

But even this brief break was just to gather more strength to throw herself back into her hectic job.

Wu Xiaoya loved the sense of fulfillment that came with working overtime. Every busy moment gave her a sense of purpose and self-worth.

After all, she had been oppressed at home for years. Now that she finally had her own job and income, she was eager to work hard, earn more money, and create a better future for herself.

Today happened to be the weekend, and at eight o’clock, Wu Xiaoya packed up the files on her desk, ready to head home.

However, just as she reached the door, her phone suddenly rang.

She took out her phone and saw it was a call from Chen Ying.

They hadn’t spoken since their last argument over a misunderstanding. Chen Ying’s call stirred a complex mix of emotions in Wu Xiaoya’s heart.

"Xiao Ya."

"Hmm, what’s up?" Wu Xiaoya tried to keep her tone calm.

"Xiao Ya, do you really have to talk to me like this?" Chen Ying’s voice carried a hint of dissatisfaction.

Wu Xiaoya realized her attitude might have been too harsh. She paused, trying to soften the mood.

"I..." she hesitated.

"I quit my job," Chen Ying’s voice was suddenly low and firm.

"You’re crazy!" Wu Xiaoya couldn’t help but raise her voice in surprise.

"After being constrained for so many years, what’s wrong with going a little crazy for once?" Chen Ying’s tone was surprisingly light, almost liberated.

Wu Xiaoya began to sense that something was seriously wrong.

"Are you drinking? Are you alone? Where are you right now?" Her string of questions revealed her mounting anxiety.

"What good would telling you do? You’re all the way in Hui City. It’s not like you can just fly over here, can you?" Chen Ying’s tone was filled with hopelessness.

"I’m not joking, Ying Ying. Tell me where you are," Wu Xiaoya’s voice grew more anxious.

However, the line went dead, followed by a steady BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.

"Ying Ying!" Wu Xiaoya hurriedly redialed, but the call went unanswered.

Chen Ying’s silence made Wu Xiaoya even more worried.

She knew that no matter how anxious she was, she couldn’t just fly to Chen Ying’s side. She began to consider other options.

"No, I can’t just wait around," Wu Xiaoya muttered. An idea struck her, but she immediately shot it down. Ask the boss? No, that’s too abrupt. Stuck, she eventually decided to call someone else for help.

Sun Yufei had finally managed to hitch a ride with her boss tonight.

Sitting in the backseat, she greedily breathed in the air.

Xue Yang, from the driver’s seat, happened to glance back, and seeing her earnest expression, he couldn’t help but tease, "Is there no air for you to breathe outside?"

Hearing this, Sun Yufei’s eyes sparkled with ambition.

She responded with a smile, "The air outside doesn’t carry the unique scent of success that clings to you, Boss. You’re so outstanding. If I breathe in enough of it, maybe some of your good luck will rub off on me, and I’ll be able to achieve something great one day too."

As they were joking, Sun Yufei’s phone suddenly rang. She quickly picked it up, saw it was a call from Wu Xiaoya, and answered without hesitation.

"Senior Xiao Ya? Good evening. What can I do for you?"

"Yu Fei, I have an urgent favor to ask you," Wu Xiaoya’s voice on the other end sounded anxious.

"Of course, Senior Xiao Ya. Just tell me what you need," Sun Yufei replied promptly.

"I have a friend who’s been drinking tonight, and she’s all alone," Wu Xiaoya explained, her voice tight with worry. "I’m concerned for her safety, so I was hoping you could pick her up and take her to a nearby hotel to rest. Don’t worry, she’s a girl, not a guy. And, I think you know her."

Without a second thought, Sun Yufei answered, "Alright, Senior Xiao Ya, where is she?"

Anyone who can make Senior Xiao Ya this worried must be a very close friend. If my own best friend were out drinking alone and I wasn’t around, I’d be just as frantic.

"I’ve already sent you the address. Yu Fei, thank you so much," Wu Xiaoya said, her voice filled with gratitude.

Sun Yufei quickly checked the address on her phone and, seeing it wasn’t far from their current location, breathed a sigh of relief.

She turned to her boss in the front seat with a cheeky smile. "Hey, Boss, could I trouble you for a little favor?"

Xue Yang glanced at her, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "You’re the first person who’s dared to order me around."

Sun Yufei hurriedly waved her hands in denial. "Oh, Boss, you misunderstand! I wouldn’t dare order you around. It’s just a tiny favor."

At the next intersection, Xue Yang turned onto the street Sun Yufei indicated, and they arrived shortly after.

Xue Yang surveyed the surroundings, noting that the area was rather remote, with few pedestrians. A girl getting drunk in a place like this was indeed a significant safety risk. It was no wonder Wu Xiaoya had been so anxious to ask for help.

"Wait for you?" Xue Yang asked before Sun Yufei got out of the car.

She flashed Xue Yang a grateful smile. "Hehe, that would be great! Thank you, Boss!"

She hopped out of the car cheerfully and followed Wu Xiaoya’s directions into the shop.

Once inside, she scanned the room, her gaze quickly locking onto a figure in a corner.

"Oh my God... how can it be her?" Sun Yufei gasped, pressing a hand to her forehead in disbelief.
