Reincarnated as a Lizard
Chapter 455: Mist Bound Behemoth, Beam of Darkness (3)
Ignoring Verdell and Scaly after perceiving the two of them to be of little to no threat, the group of adventurers continued their attacks against the mist bound behemoth. Not showing the slightest bit of care in the face of the seemingly unstoppable monster that showed no signs of weakening no matter how much they attacked it. Making the observing dragon and dwarf watching the situation from the side increasingly confused, as it was clear to the two of them that this group of adventurers stood no chance against the mist bound behemoth. If anything, their continued attacks began to look more like they were trying to throw their own lives away than trying to take down the mist bound behemoth.
Bang!
"Aaah-!"
This thought only solidified further when the human shadow bringer, the weakest of the adventurers at level 128, was knocked flying spewing blood in the process before crashing into the ground without getting back up again.
If not for the fact that they could still barely see his rising chest amidst the thick grey mist, they would have already thought the other party had died from the terrifying hit just now. Still, though not dead, it was clear this adventurer was out of the battle for good, causing the pressure on the remaining four adventures to increase-
Bang! Bang!
Not taking too long before the wolfkin shadow prowler at level 141 and the human mist stalker was knocked out in a similar way. Leaving only the mage and the one SS Rank Adventurer behind to face off against the mist bound behemoth.
Although, with the mage in question being placed on the backline without directly facing off against the powerful monster, it was more accurate to say that the human guardian shadow walker at level 154, the sole SS Rank Adventurer, was facing off against the mist bound behemoth all on his own.
And powerful as he might be, it was clear he wouldn’t be able to last long against a powerful monster like the mist bound behemoth without assistance from the three S Rank Adventurers who had been knocked out of combat. Slowly tilting the scales of the battle in the favor of the mist bound behemoth, as it pushed its advantage and began using its two massive arms to slam into the human guardian shadow walker. Displaying its terrifying power in the process, as the earth cracked and split apart, wherever the large lumps of flesh at the of those long arms landed, causing even the powerful adventurer now holding the line on his own to spew out a mouthful of blood before being forced to retreat.
Huh? What is that...?
Originally, Scaly wanted to take this opportunity to jump forward and kill off the three S Rank Adventurers on the ground before shifting her attention to killing the two weakened adventurers stuck in battle with the mist bound behemoth, but a sudden shift from the human guardian shadow walker made her pause.
Watching with a hint of surprise as he had pulled out something that caused a small hint of fear to sprout within her before rapidly being suppressed by her inherent pride as a dragon. Deciding to wait to see what this thing that had made her feel a hint of profound fear for an instant was before making a move. Curious if this was some kind of desperate last-ditch attempt by the adventurers to push back the mist bound behemoth.
Not because she feared the thing that looked like a small glass ball that the adventurer fighting the mist bound behemoth head on had pulled out from who knows where, but instead because she silently hoped this was truly some kind of powerful magical artifact that would be able to injure the mist bound behemoth.
After all, confident as she was in her own strength, she understood from a single glance at the devastating battle that she was no match for the mist bound behemoth in its current state. Even the group of adventurers were beyond her under normal circumstances, but if both parties were severely injured and weakened, there was a very real possibility that she would be able to kill both sides with her current strength and the element of surprise on her side.
But in the end, all of this hinged on the fact that the magical artifact would truly have the ability to land a deadly attack on the mist bound behemoth, something she found difficult to believe given the terrifying power displayed by the mist bound behemoth so far and its terrifying defensive power when using those two giant lumps of flesh at the end of its long arms.
Bang!
And unsurprisingly enough, given how she could sense the danger from the magical artifact that had been pulled out by the human guardian shadow walker, so could the mist behemoth, as it had already slammed down one of its giant arms to block the potential attack from the magical artifact. Creating a wall of flesh between itself and the artifact in question.
However, because of how close the human guardian shadow walker was to the mist bound behemoth and the fact that both of its arms had been about to attack instead of defending, it didn’t have the time to retract its second arm and use it for defense by the time the magical artifact attack-
RUUUUMBLE-!
Because of this, as the magical artifact in the shape of a pitch black crystal ball exploded forth with an equally black magical power towards the mist bound behemoth, the single fleshy hill standing before the beam of darkness didn’t manage to block it, as the beam of darkness drilled a hole straight through the mass of flesh before slamming into the mist bound behemoth without a single sound-
ROOOOOAR-!
If not for the pained roaring sound that erupted from the monster in question, Scaly would have seriously doubted that the beam of light did any real damage to the creature.
Although... There was also the fact that she could clearly see the body of the mist bound behemoth hit by the beam of darkness starting to slowly crumble in the face of the terrifying attack and along with it, the presence of power that surrounded the mist bound behemoth also began dispersing at a speed visible to the naked eye, a clear sign that the strength of the mist bound behemoth was disappearing rapidly.
Strangely enough, this kind of weakness didn’t seem to be because the mist bound behemoth was dying but instead seemed related to the fact that the mist bound behemoth was forcibly weakened by the strange dark magic contained within the crystal ball shaped artifact used by the human guardian shadow walker. Allowing Scaly to witness the power of dark magic for the first time and at the same time also awakened a new desire inside of her that made her want to learn this dark magic herself.
Just imagining herself using powerful dark magic to weaken an enemy stronger than herself and bringing them down to a manageable level for her to hunt down made her feel excited.
However, after the excitement was over, she quickly realized that she didn’t exactly have much spare time for learning any new magic beyond the already large number of magic she had learnt so far.
Even though she didn’t fear taking on new magic and learning it, she did fear spreading her attention to thin between different kinds of magic and finding herself unable to master any magic to a truly useful level.
Because of this, she ultimately dispelled the desire she had to learn dark magic for now. Understanding that whatever level of dark magic had just been used by the strange crystal ball shaped magic artifact was far beyond the level of even her water magic and wasn’t something that would be simple for her to learn.
Crack~ Bang!
This fact was proven, as even the powerful magic artifact that had unleashed the powerful dark magic ultimately shattered and exploded shortly after the beam of darkness ended. Leaving behind an exhausted human guardian shadow walker and a barely moving mist bound behemoth.
The only one in a still stable state and able to move around without too much difficulty was the Elemental Archmage who had been positioned at the very back and had avoided most of the deadly battle. Focusing entirely on supporting from behind with his magic.
Of course, outside of that mage, there was also Scaly herself and Verdell, who had remained unaffected by the battle and remained in tip top shape...
This is the perfect opportunity to strike!
And to Scaly, this was nothing short of the perfect opportunity for her and Verdell to strike at the already weakened adventurers and now also severely weakened mist bound behemoth that had now also been weakened to the point where it was possible for her to kill it without too much difficulty.
Whoosh~
So, without much hesitation, she made her move targeting the mage who seemed to be in the best shape first...
