Chapter 192: Speed Of Light

Ye Jun wondered if this world had insurance policies. He surely needed one for his cheeks, considering how much his lovers liked messing with them.

He rubbed his cheeks and complained, "Hey, this time it wasn’t my fault. I already told you about my special nature. As for that presence near my soul, I don’t even know much about it."

"Still your fault." Before he could protest, Song Liangxue added, "Don’t ask me why."

"Unreasonable woman," he rolled his eyes.

Thinking of something, he stood up and slumped onto the seat, right between them. He made himself comfortable and said, "I’m also very unreasonable."

If he was being honest, Ye Jun had no problem sharing his past and knowledge of the system with both of them. He trusted them just as they trusted him. After all, both had told him their deepest secrets, things that could end their lives.

’That’s an understatement. If the things they told me got out, they would live a life worse than death.’

Yet, they had trusted him with that knowledge, all because of their love. He was so touched by their gestures and had no problem doing the same.

But he couldn’t do that for their own safety.

The system was unfathomable and unknown. Its sheer presence scared away a Ruler Realm, or perhaps even higher, being. It even managed to bring his soul through the Assimilation of the Spiritual Realm and give him a rebirth through Ye Jun.

None of it was an easy feat. He had actually tried searching if stuff like this had happened before. It was rare, but not impossible. What truly made this different was the fact that everyone who had done so possessed a high Cultivation base.

Who knew if the system would react if Ye Jun revealed its existence to others? He was very paranoid about it, especially since he had read novels where systems often killed people who knew about their existence.

He couldn’t afford to experiment with it.

As if that wasn’t enough, he was now somehow connected to world-ending events, which meant he would become a very important person. And he could speak from personal experience that such a position would earn him very dangerous enemies.

’As if I don’t already have enough of them.’

Those enemies could try to gather information about him through Meihui or Song Liangxue. He already knew methods to search souls and consciousness existed in this world, so no information could remain hidden forever.

If anyone found out about his system, then they might try to steal it from him or replace his soul. Or do anything necessary to acquire that system. Ye Jun doubted they would succeed, but it was still better to keep it secret.

There were simply too many risks in telling them, so while he felt guilty for keeping secrets, he didn’t want to put them in danger or risk getting himself killed.

"...Lost? Thinking about another woman?"

"What?" He shook himself awake upon hearing Song Liangxue’s flat voice. "No, I was just thinking about something."

"Well, we were discussing the assassination attempt being carried out by the Lord," Song Liangxue said, eyeing him suspiciously for a moment. "It is entirely possible. You did say he is proficient in matters of the Soul."

"Yes. Maybe he controlled Feng Hui." Meihui nodded. "What if he planned a different excuse so the sect wouldn’t know he’s already powerful enough to infiltrate them?"

Ye Jun shook his head. "Nope. Feng Hui didn’t give me that feeling. The Lord didn’t control him. I trust my instincts. It’s more like he was afraid of something, so it’s likely that he was blackmailed into doing that."

"Yet we can’t rule out the possibility of the Lord using his family as hostages," Meihui pointed out. "Maybe he really isn’t powerful enough to infiltrate the sect, but he doesn’t need to do it."

Ye Jun remained silent.

"Indeed. But he certainly has high mastery in the Dao of Soul for sure, or maybe he can just control the Spiritual Realm better than most," Meihui added carefully. "People like him are very dangerous. The Lord likely saw through Feng Hui’s memories and made this plan. He also planted that seal, which bypassed even the sect’s formations."

’It makes sense,’ Ye Jun thought, rubbing his forehead. ’It makes so much sense, yet I can’t ignore this feeling. Is it really the Lord who did it?’

He sighed. "You two are right. There’s a huge chance the Lord did this, but we can’t be sure. We still should take other matters into consideration. Maybe someone else did it because the methods used are certainly very... average."

"Yes." Song Liangxue nodded before smiling softly. "I’m impressed. Before we even reached my home, you already have so many enemies."

"So having enemies is now a good thing?"

Song Liangxue’s smile widened with pride. "My grandfather says, ’If nobody hates you, then nobody fears your rise.’"

"His experience shows in his words," Ye Jun said, agreeing with the sentiment. "You really respect him."

"He’s my role model."

"I look forward to meeting him then," he smiled. "Well, if we survive this journey because the Lord might attack again. If he doesn’t, then maybe someone else will. Who knows."

Song Liangxue’s face turned serious upon hearing that and she took out her communication stone. Before she could say anything, Song Ying’s voice entered the carriage.

"Do not worry, Young Miss. I’ve already taken things into account. This journey cannot be any safer than it already is."

Although Song Liangxue was confused by her words, she trusted her enough not to ask anything further. As long as they remained safe, nothing else mattered.

Ye Jun shifted a bit closer to the window and opened it. Outside, a scenery of green blankets spread across rolling hills greeted him on both sides of the road. He could even see farmers stopping to look at their entourage with stupefied expressions.

"Huh, we came down the mountains really quickly. It didn’t even feel like we were descending," Ye Jun paused, realizing something. "Wait! These don’t feel like the surroundings of the sect either."

"Because they aren’t," Meihui answered him. "We are already more than a hundred kilometres away from the White Gale Pavilion."

Ye Jun blinked in surprise upon hearing Meihui’s words. They had been talking for only a few minutes, which he assumed was how long it would take to descend the mountain. He had even experienced the speed of these horses himself.

So how had they crossed such a great distance without even realizing it? If they were moving that fast, then he should have noticed it easily, especially if they were moving faster than sound.

"Dao of Space?" he guessed.

"Not really." Song Liangxue smiled and changed positions with him so he could have a better view. "The Rhyshadiums are that fast. Or rather, they are faster, but we use their speed in moderation since they need to cover great distances. And also because of this carriage."

"They are known as one of the fastest Spiritual Beasts to exist," Meihui added. "Especially when they reach the full potential of their bloodline and advance to higher tiers, they can bend space through sheer speed alone."

Just so he could understand better, she explained further, "Normally, we won’t feel the restrictions, so you might not know this, but the Grand Dao of Space actually restricts one’s movement. According to the Heavenly Dao, nothing moves faster than light. Do you know that?"

"I do," Ye Jun nodded. ’Pretty much everyone knew that in my old world. But that’s mostly because physics existed there. This is a cultivation world. Things are different...or maybe not.’

"Good. So as long as one follows that law, the Grand Dao of Space won’t place restrictions on them. But once someone crosses the speed of light, that law is broken and the restrictions are applied. They resist your movement and bring it down to half the speed of light, or maybe even lower."

"And nobody can resist the Grand Daos," Song Liangxue smiled. "Only High-Stage Ruler Realm cultivators and above hold that power because they interact with them on a completely different plane."

"Yes. So now you should understand why Rhyshadiums bending space through speed matters so much." Meihui crossed her arms and smiled. "Honestly, they are a fascinating breed of Spiritual Beast. But that also makes them extremely rare."

"There’s so much more I need to learn," Ye Jun muttered. ’So there really is a law restricting people from going beyond the speed of light. Impressive.’

"We had to make this carriage specifically to endure their speed," Song Liangxue said. "It also has many functions. For example, the moment we close the windows, they resume their faster speed. And if we keep them open, they assume we want to enjoy the scenery, so they maintain a normal pace."

’Who needs modern technology when stuff like this exists here?’ Ye Jun smiled. "Then I guess I’m privileged to ride in this. It should be reserved for the Main Branch of the Song Clan."

"And now you’re a part of it."

Ye Jun chuckled and said, "I’ve thought of something. Can we stop by one place?"

"Sure, but where?"

Ye Jun closed the window and said, "The clue from that world-ending dream. Let’s visit the place it pointed me toward."
