Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1598 - 1595: Another One With Diarrhea
"The homeroom teacher needs to talk to me. I’m heading out first. You should hurry up and not be late, or the teacher will scold you. Teacher Fang isn’t here to cover you," Xiao Manxuan reminded.
"Got it." Lin Tian responded simply with a few words, and stopped talking. Outside, the sound of the door opening was heard, and the little girl left by herself.
He refocused his attention on the Crescent Blade. The blade was still absorbing the essence of the sun, and as it absorbed more, the Crescent Blade underwent a marvelous transformation.
The blood-colored markings on the blade, initially solid and heavy, became lively upon absorbing the essence of the sun, appearing to have gained life under Lin Tian’s keen observation.
The more the Crescent Blade absorbed the sun’s essence, the clearer this lively aura became. At the same time, Lin Tian was surprised to find the image of the Crescent Blade in his mind growing increasingly distinct.
Initially just a faint shadow, now he could see through it and observe a complete outline, though it still lacked a sense of reality. As the shadow became clearer, Lin Tian felt his connection with the Crescent Blade growing stronger.
"Rise!" Lin Tian commanded silently at the Crescent Blade. The blade trembled slightly and then slowly began to ascend.
The Crescent Blade rose to the level of his gaze, then hovered there. Lin Tian felt a surge of excitement: "I’ve done it again." Of course, this statement was meant for the Sword Spirit.
But he was too quick to celebrate; a momentary lapse in focus while communicating with the Sword Spirit caused the Crescent Blade to fall with a pop.
"Master, I feel there’s a connection between practicing Sword Control Technique and other swordsmanship. It’s all about concentration. Back then, King Arthur practiced hard to ensure he could wield his sword accurately in any environment," the Sword Spirit said seriously.
"How did he practice?" Lin Tian asked.
"By striking a wooden stake a thousand times every day, hitting the exact same spot each time, until he could do it effortlessly," the Sword Spirit replied.
"I wonder how Tang Xuan Su mastered his All Swords Return to the Sect. His control over each sword was precise; it couldn’t be achieved by True Qi alone. What level of spiritual power is required?" Lin Tian wondered, recalling Tang Xuan Su’s technique vividly.
After some thought, Lin Tian put aside his musings and focused again. This time, he didn’t let the Crescent Blade absorb the sun’s essence on its own but controlled the blade to slowly rise and hover at eye level again.
He allowed the Crescent Blade to hover, maintaining its height while it absorbed the sun’s essence. Keeping the Crescent Blade in this state was a test of Lin Tian’s spiritual power, very taxing mentally.
It was hard to say how long he maintained this, but Lin Tian felt a wave of fatigue deep in his mind. It wasn’t physical exhaustion but mental, more draining than pulling an all-nighter.
"Now I understand why practicing the Sword Control Technique is mentally exhausting," Lin Tian sighed.
"Of course, cultivation either drains physical strength or mental energy. It can’t be done in a single step, back in the day..."
The Sword Spirit was about to reminisce, but Lin Tian quickly cut it off, "No memories of the past. Shut up, let me recover first."
Lin Tian told the Sword Spirit to be quiet and stood up. He began to practice the movements of the Cultivation Technique found on beast skin. He had practiced these moves countless times and had mastered them completely; what were awkward movements on the beast skin flowed seamlessly when he did them.
Finally, he sat cross-legged and formed a hand seal, allowing a stream of sun’s essence to surge through his crown, making him feel as if he were soaking in a hot spring in the midst of a harsh winter. Pleasure enveloped him from inside out.
The spiritual power that was once exhausted was now like a dry desert absorbing rainwater, rejuvenated completely, akin to a weary person getting a full night’s sleep, waking refreshed.
Lin Tian was delighted by the unexpected benefit of the beast skin Cultivation Technique, which besides allowing him as a zombie to survive without feeding on blood, he found also helped restore spiritual power.
Lin Tian jumped up, stretched lazily, and suddenly remembered something important. He quickly checked the time.
"Ten twenty, damn!" Lin Tian exclaimed and hastily tidied up before rushing out.
By the time he reached the stadium, it was already packed with people; the opening ceremony had been ongoing for more than an hour.
When fully focusing on one task, it’s easy to lose track of time. The ceremony had slipped by unnoticed for over an hour. Lin Tian searched for his class, finding relief in the signposts in front of each class, noting that Biological Sciences Class One was roughly in the middle.
He intended to quietly join the back of the line, but unexpectedly, Jiang Yingqiu emerged and caught him.
"Lin Tian, what’s going on? You just arrived now? The opening ceremony has been over for more than an hour; the leadership speeches are long over," Jiang Yingqiu said sternly.
"It’s good the speeches are over; I don’t enjoy listening to the leaders read their scripts anyway," Lin Tian replied nonchalantly.
"What did you say?" Jiang Yingrong didn’t quite catch what Lin Tian said amidst the noise.
Lin Tian rubbed his brow and said earnestly, "It’s a pity I missed the leaders’ teachings. I just wasn’t feeling well, had an upset stomach this morning, which delayed me a bit."
"Another one with an upset stomach, how are you feeling now? If necessary, go see the school nurse," Jiang Yingrong’s words took Lin Tian by surprise; it seemed someone actually had an upset stomach.
"Much better, thank you for caring, homeroom teacher." Lin Tian felt somewhat guilty; Jiang didn’t blame him but showed concern instead. However, he couldn’t reveal the real reason for being late, which would sound like a lie no matter how he explained.
Jiang Yingrong pointed to the line, instructing Lin Tian to join it. Lin Tian found Qiao Xiaoyi and lined up behind him.
"Xiaoyi, what’s happening with the ceremony?" Lin Tian asked.
Qiao Xiaoyi chuckled, "I thought you overslept. Honestly, not much happens; the ceremony is similar to high school, just with some bands performing."
"Anything’s fine, as long as I don’t have to listen to the leaders rambling," Lin Tian said casually.
The opening ceremony indeed didn’t have much important going on. Leadership speeches, performances, student and teacher representative speeches—all were routine, reviewing the past and looking to the future, all by the script.
Once the opening ceremony concluded, it was already past eleven. Jiang Yingqiu gathered the students back to the classroom to distribute military training uniforms. By the time the uniforms were distributed, it was lunchtime.
Lin Tian was considering calling Xiao Manxuan, but his phone rang first. He checked to see it was a call from Xiao Manxuan.
"Lin Tian, our homeroom teacher needs to talk to me. Have lunch on your own," Xiao Manxuan said first when the call was connected.
"Cough, cough, your homeroom teacher isn’t a man, is he?" Lin Tian asked mischievously. It’s no wonder he thought like this; back in high school, the male English teacher had taken an interest in Xiao Manxuan, a teacher who studied abroad, and was eventually dismissed.
