Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower-Chapter 29: Impending Danger
Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Impending Danger
"Enough!" Damian’s loud voice, filled with authority, echoed in the hallway, delighting the mother-daughter duo. "How dare you harm my mother? Just see how I will deal with you!"
Ivy rolled her eyes. She didn’t take Damian’s words seriously.
Instead, she walked toward her room.
Seeing her ignoring them, Damian’s face turned red from rage. He held Ivy’s collar and yanked her behind.
Midway through his action, Ivy turned around and kicked him in his stomach hard.
Damian’s grip loosened as he fell on the ground, instinctively he clutched his stomach, excruciating pain spreading across his stomach.
"Ahhh."
"You! How dare..." Isla opened her mouth to argue, but Ivy interrupted her,
"Don’t keep on asking, how dare I. If I can do it once, I can do it again."
With that, she entered her room, closed the door, and lay on the bed.
Ivy was too tired to think about anything else. After using her powers, she felt dizzy and weak.
...
The Next Day.
Stephen Blackthorn adjusted his collar, his sharp brown eyes narrowing at his reflection.
The polished green military uniform sat perfectly on his tall frame, medals glinting faintly under the harsh white light of his office.
He smoothed his hair once more before grabbing his cap, exhaling deeply.
His boots clicked steadily against the marble floor, echoing down the long corridor lined with framed photos of heroes past and fallen comrades. He reached the double doors of the briefing room and pushed them open.
Inside, his superior, Major Carter, stood behind the table, his expression grave.
Beside him was Frank, Stephen’s so-called comrade but also his long-standing rival.
Frank’s oily smile vanished the moment he saw Stephen enter. Other officers stood stiffly around the table, tension thick in the air.
"Stephen, you’re here. Good," Major Carter said, voice tight. "Let’s begin."
Stephen gave a crisp salute. "Sir."
Carter didn’t waste time. He pointed to the map spread across the table, the suburbs marked in red.
"As you all know, the situation’s worsening. Civilians in the suburbs are reporting attacks. We suspect the infected population there has grown out of control. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Your squad will move out in two hours, reach the suburbs by nightfall, clear the area of infected, and escort the civilians to Skyline Residential. Estimated travel time, six hours one way."
Stephen’s heart sank. The exact mission Ivy had warned him about.
Before he could speak, Frank stepped forward, his face twisting into a mask of fake sorrow.
"Major... I’m afraid I can’t join this operation. My wife’s gone into labor early. I need to be there."
Stephen’s eyes narrowed dangerously. How convenient.
Major Carter hesitated, glancing between Frank and the map. "This is not the time..."
"I understand, sir. But my family..."
Stephen’s mind raced.
’Ivy was right. Even the excuse. She predicted it down to this detail.’
His respect for her insight deepened. He clenched his fists.
Major Carter sighed. "Fine. Family first. Stephen, you’ll take command of the unit."
"Yes, sir." Stephen’s voice was firm, though his thoughts were storming.
Frank tried to look regretful, but Stephen could see the glint of relief in his eyes. As Frank backed away, Stephen shot him a cold look.
...
Ivy packed all the little belongings she had. She wasn’t planning to stay with the Ravencroft family.
Not to mention, the building might soon be flooded with zombies.
Half of the researchers who are busy with the zombie virus will soon notice the arrival of the superpower and side effects, as well as the benefits of the Power Rain’s arrival.
That is when the real horror will begin.
Zombies will increase in numbers. Looting and fighting will become a common occurrence. The bite infection will become severe.
Other refugees will rush to City N.
PTSD and other mental illnesses will spread even faster than the flu.
Zombies that used to roam around mindlessly will be controlled by the intelligent ones and start to attack the people living in the apartment.
Some smart one will also break the windows of the apartment and enter.
All of this chaos will ensue in just 3 months or so. Then will come the real problem.
Climate change.
The years coming ahead will be divided into three seasons. Extreme heat, extreme rainfall, and extreme cold.
This never-ending vicious cycle was enough to make 90% of humanity break down. This phenomenon occurred throughout the entire world, making it impossible for humanity to survive.
Misery after misery broke even a strong-willed soldier’s heart. It was as if... even the heavens didn’t want humanity to survive.
Ivy’s superpower after evolving became the sole survival reason for humanity.
Even Ivy never imagined that the second superpower she had awakened was so powerful.
However, this superpower also became the reason why Ivy and her beloved people died.
Once her packaging was finished, Ivy suddenly felt dizzy. She held her forehead and unconsiously walked out of her room.
"Dad, you must do something! That Ivy is getting too out of hand!" Isla’s nasal voice echoed in the living room.
"Isla, don’t be sad, I will take revenge on her for you." Damian’s doting voice followed after.
Ivy, as if under a spell, continued to walk. Maybe the Ravencroft family was too deep in conversation; they didn’t even notice Ivy leaving.
....
CLACK, CLACK...
The moment Ivy opened her eyes, she found herself on the rooftop.
Some of the zombies with decaying skin, contorted hands, and legs of zombies created a heart-wrenching yet frightening scene.
For Ivy, the scene was too familiar. The moment the door of the rooftop was opened, all the zombies looked in Ivy’s direction, before looking away.
The zombies in front even made way for Ivy. This scene was quite comedic.
But the dazed Ivy didn’t care. She continued to walk till she reached the center.
"Power activated." She whispered, and her dazed state suddenly disappeared.
Ivy blinked and looked around in confusion. Her eyes were filled with alertness, and with each passing second, her aura turned cold.
"Who?" She asked, as she took a defensive stance and looked around warily... when her eyes fell on the timer floating in the air.
