Zombie Apocalypse: Creation-Chapter 792: Guangzhou’s University
Thirty minutes later...
"Lily, you okay?"
Shuli asked as the two of them sat in the back of a car, with Xiaoyun sitting in the driver's seat.
"I'm fine. I'm just a little nervous."
"Normal to be nervous for your first day of class... Actually, what classes do you have for your first semester?"
"Physics class, then a math class, and an English class after lunch."
Lily answered as she took out a piece of paper, which had her whole schedule for the entire week laid out.
"Sounds like a lot."
"It's not even that much. Lily, you're lucky that there's no self-learning at night." Shuli murmured.
"Why no self-study at night?"
Xiaoyun looked genuinely surprised, as he had always had mandatory self-study back when he was still in university and in high school.
"Can't afford to turn on the light at night. Have to cut the corner somewhere since most of the education budget is going towards childcare." Shuli answered.
"You guys didn't ask Yuqi for a budget increase?"
"She already increased it for the 5th time in the past three months. I can't ask her again when all the other departments are facing budget restraints."
"Budget restraint? We are projected to earn a record level of budget surplus this month and next month.
You guys didn't see the tax we implemented? Yuqi is more than able to give more money to education."
Despite Xiaoyun's argument, Shuli still shook her head as the car came to a complete stop in front of the university.
"Last thing I heard from the treasury department, they're focusing on paying off the existing debt first."
"Make sense... Ahem, have a good first day of class, Lily. And you too, Shuli. Have fun on your first day of work."
"Mhm."
As both Shuli and Lily stepped out of the car and headed towards the university, they soon vanished into the crowds of students entering the campus.
"They really picked the university I went to rather than all the other universities in Guangzhou?"
Xiaoyun shook his head as he looked over to the car display, which stated the time to be exactly nine o'clock.
"What is there even to do at Yuqi's and Houqin's office? I might as well check it out..."
With the decision made, Xiaoyun quickly parked the car on the open street as he stepped out of the car.
"So many people..."
Walking along with the crowds of people, he soon encountered a checkpoint that required a student ID to get through.
"Hey, excuse me. I'm a guest speaker. I don't have a student ID... But here's my personal ID to verify."
As Xiaoyun walked over to the guard and handed his ID directly, his eyes began to widen more and more.
"You... Wait a moment, this name—"
"Am I allowed ot be inside?" Xiaoyun interrupts, preventing the guard from saying his name out loud in front of everyone.
"O-Of course."
The guard quickly handed the ID back, manually opening the gate for him as he finally entered the main campus.
"Where do I go now?"
Looking around, he could see all kinds of students walking with their own destination in mind around the campus.
"Hey, are you lost?"
A middle-aged woman suddenly approached Xiaoyun. With a closer look, he could notice the student helper tag on her shirt.
"A little."
"What classes do you have? I can bring you there."
"Um. I have a physics class, then a math class, and an English class in the afternoon." Xiaoyun answered.
"Which physics class? Do you not have your schedule printed out?"
The woman questioned, her face suddenly filled with suspicion as she explained the clothes Xiaoyun wore.
"I forgot to print it out... Oh snap, my friend is over there. She'll bring me to the class I need to go to."
Before the woman could question him further, Xiaoyun had already run off into the crowds of students heading towards the right side of the campus.
"Weird... How did he not get a schedule when everyone should have received it in the mail?"
---
"Whew, that was close... Now, where am I?"
As Xiaoyun looked around, memories began popping up in his head as he instantly recognized the place as the STEM side of the campus.
"Maybe I should check out my old classes."
After walking down the hall for a bit, he finally finds a lecture hall that has hundreds of students inside.
"What the... Am I really seeing that right?'
Taking a seat in the back, Xiaoyun was a little shocked that the 'professor' standing in front was no other than his wife, Yueyue.
"Looks like everyone is here... Hello everyone, first of all, I want to thank you all for picking this new Intelligence Studies as your major.
At the intelligence studies major, we'll be teaching how to conduct threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments.
We'll also be teaching how to develop investigation, interviewing techniques, and tactics within both domestic and foreign entities.
Outside of intelligence gathering, you'll also learn how to design security systems incorporating barriers, alarms, access control, and cameras."
All of the students sat in silence as they looked towards Yueyue. Their faces filled with excitement, confusion, and all kinds of emotions.
"You all can call me Mrs.Chen. All you have to know is I'm the head of intelligence. I'll only be here for the 1st week.
For the other weeks, you'll will be taught by agents within the intelligence department... Please take out a pen and paper, we'll be conducting a test."
Within seconds, the class was a little caught off guard as nobody expected a test right at the very beginning.
"Just as a heads up, once you're past the 1st semester of this class. The option to switch majors will be impossible.
You'll be required to drop out or wait until next year. So keep this in mind as we progress through this class."
As more and more students took out pens and paper from their backpacks, Xiaoyun was a little shocked by the announcement.
"Hey, why are you just sitting there? Do you need a pen and paper?" A male student who sat next to him quietly asked.
"I'm an education evaluator."
The male student instantly fell into silence, shifting his attention back to his own paper after seeing the suit he was wearing.
"Now that everyone has a pen and paper. I want you to write twenty words describing the person sitting in front of or behind you."
Some of the students immediately turned around, while some remained looking forward, writing down the answer to Yueyue's question.
"Um, sir. Can you turn around?"
As a voice appeared behind Xiaoyun, he quickly turned around to check. To his surprise, it was an extremely familiar-looking face.
"You..."
"Have we met before?" Xiaoyun asked, his mind trying to remember the female student's face.
"W-We met before—"
"Please remember, do not chat with your peer or the person you're drawing. This should be a silent exercise."
Within seconds, Yueyue's warning sent the class into complete silence. Xiaoyun didn't turn around as he let the female student write down a description of him.
"Okay, time's up. Please write your name and pass it to the front. You'll get your grade back tomorrow morning."
As the female student handed the paper to Xiaoyun, he didn't take a peek at it as he handed it to the student in front of him.
"Now the test is done, you might be wondering why I made you all write a description of a person.
That will actually be the main lesson of the class today. It is actually the most important part as an intelligence officer.
90% of intelligence gathering will require you to write what you see and summarize your work in brief sentences."
Yueyue paused for a second, then continued.
"Oh, I almost forgot to mention this. There will be separate technical fields you'll be choosing in the future.
You'll also be guaranteed a position at the intelligence office, assuming you pass everything in time."
As Yueyue turned around to turn on the projector, Xiaoyun could notice a hidden change on the students' faces.
A weird excitement when she said the word guarantee, almost as if the thought of job security alone was enough to convince all of them.
"Since this class is new, there will be no textbook. You'll need to take notes as I explained the slides.
Please save your question for the end. I'll have extra time to answer it... Now let's start with our lesson."
With the projector fully on, a whole slide full of information popped up at once as hundreds of students began writing down notes.
"The first thing we'll be talking about is how to write a description. Specifically, key terms the intelligence uses to describe a person..."
As Yueyue started explaining things from the slide, Xiaoyun began to get a little bored, as most of the stuff was basic office work.
However, none of the students looked bored at all. Their hand moving nonstop across the papers.
