Chapter 44: Chapter 44: It’s Not a Big Deal in Front of Him _1

This time the response from his side ceased, only the rustling sound could be heard.

"Gu Shaocheng?" Chenxing whispered his name.

"Hmm, I’m here." He had already gotten dressed while they were talking. He grabbed his car keys and went out, saying, "I’ll pick you up immediately."

He didn’t ask for any reason. She was just crying for wanting to go home, and he knew she must have suffered a lot.

Who on earth bullied her to the point that she is hiding in the bathroom crying and calling him in the middle of the night telling him she wants to go home?

He didn’t even need to imagine to know the fragile look on the girl’s face at the other end of the line.

"Go to bed and rest. I’ll be there soon." Gu Shaocheng thought for a while, then asked, "Do you want me to book a new room for you? Would you be scared to sleep alone?"

Chenxing didn’t know how to respond.

When she said she wanted to go home, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision pressed by her distress. She never thought Gu Shaocheng would offer to pick her up without even asking why.

He was even so considerate as to offer to book her a new room, his voice soft and deeply soothing. For a moment, her heart stirred.

It seemed as if all of her grievances had been melted by his soothing words.

Strangely enough, her mood was much better.

"Am I too willful?" She didn’t know what to do. Her mind was a mess. In the middle of the night, she yelled to go home. She was really at her wit’s end. She could hear a trace of sleepiness in his voice over the phone. Had she woken him up?

Just when Chenxing realized this, she heard the sound of his car’s electronic lock and the door opening and closing.

Gu Shaocheng sighed, always feeling that she was crying. It made him really want to be at her side immediately: "No, you’re doing great. Don’t worry, I’ll be there soon!"

Never had there been a moment like this when she felt the magnetic power of his voice soothe her messy mind, it felt like she had found something to rely on.

It felt like she found her rock.

As if no matter what happened, it wouldn’t be a problem in front of him.

There was also never a moment when she thought Gu Shaocheng’s voice was incredibly comforting.

Chenxing didn’t know what else to say. She clenched her phone as she heard the sound of his car starting, but she hung up, afraid that he might be in danger if he was talking on the phone while driving.

As Gu Shaocheng was driving, he began to wonder: what was happening on her end?

Then, naturally, the hotel manager was once again woken by a phone call.

He had no idea how to answer President Gu’s question. After asking the front desk, he learned that several of her classmates had checked out.

When the manager realized what was happening, he broke out in a cold sweat. He quickly moved Chenxing to a separate room and arranged two employees to accompany her, treating her as if she were a deity. He was deeply afraid of upsetting her.

But Chenxing just wanted to be alone. She sent the classmates and employees away and turned on the television, but couldn’t focus on it.

She wrapped her arms around her knees and buried her face in them, clutching the cellphone that could connect her to Gu Shaocheng.

She was running away from everyone, but she was eager for Gu Shaocheng to arrive soon.

She was gripped with a fear of facing people, as if everyone was looking at her with strange eyes and whispering about her.

She did not like that feeling, not one bit.

Gu Shaocheng tightened his grip on the steering wheel, stepping down hard on the accelerator. His sports car sped off like a madman down the highway from Vancouver (code-named City E) to the suburbs.
