Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 81: I Am Not Your Father
Director Lawson was waiting for May Morgan to say this, and upon hearing her response, he repeatedly praised her, "Miss Morgan is indeed a person who understands the bigger picture. In that case, we will summon your father."
"Go ahead. When my father is arrested, can I be there to listen in? I want to know why he was so ruthless as to kill his own mother?" May Morgan asked Chief Lewis through gritted teeth.
Director Lawson hesitated for a moment and didn’t agree to May Morgan’s request: "Miss Morgan, according to the regulations of our police department, outsiders aren’t allowed to listen in when interrogating a suspect. However, we can fax you a transcript of the interrogation. How about that?"
May Morgan glanced at Vincent Vance and saw that he nodded, so she didn’t make things difficult for Director Lawson: "Alright then, thank you for your trouble, Director Lawson."
After hanging up the call with Director Lawson, May Morgan still felt uneasy, so she turned to Vincent Vance and said, "I still feel uneasy. There’s still no trace of the jade pendant. Do you think it might be with Grandpa, or is it with my sister?"
Vincent Vance pulled her into his arms, placed her on his lap, and said to her, "Don’t bother with all that now; focus on convicting your sister first. She’s the only one who knows where the jade pendant is. So, as long as Director Lawson arrests her, the location of the jade pendant will be revealed, won’t it?"
Well, yes, but Melanie Morgan is so devious; how can she admit her crime so easily and accept punishment?
What if she sees Dad getting summoned and decides to flee overnight?
"Melanie Morgan is very clever. If she sees my dad being summoned by Director Lawson’s people, could she flee overnight? Oh, by the way, I remember she has a foreign passport. What if she escapes abroad?" Thinking of the troublesome Melanie Morgan, May Morgan quickly discussed with Vincent Vance.
Vincent Vance listened and appeared smug, gently tapping her forehead, and then smiled reassuringly at her: "Don’t worry, I’ve had someone watching her; she won’t be able to escape."
In the afternoon, May Morgan’s phone rang; she picked it up and, to her surprise, it was her aunt Melody White calling her.
"May Morgan, please, please save your father; he’s been taken away by the police." Melody White said tearfully to May Morgan over the phone.
May Morgan had long anticipated this outcome, so she coldly refused her request: "Sorry, I can’t help."
Upon hearing this, Melody White angrily cursed at May Morgan: "You heartless thing! What a waste that your father and I raised you this big. Now that your father is in trouble, how can you just watch him die without helping? Are you even human?"
"I’m not human? Then your daughter killed my grandmother without batting an eyelid. Is she human?" May Morgan immediately retorted through gritted teeth.
Melody White was stunned on the other end of the line, then started to cry loudly as if she were dying: "You, don’t falsely accuse my daughter. She’s not like that, how could she kill someone? May Morgan, I’m warning you, if you continue to say this, I can sue you for defamation."
"Then go ahead, call a lawyer, summon the media and say that I’m accusing your daughter Melanie Morgan of murder, murdering her own grandmother. Do you dare? Does your daughter dare? If she’s committed a wrongdoing, she better be careful or my grandmother will come to call her in the night to settle the score!"
The more May Morgan spoke, the angrier she got, and she couldn’t be bothered to argue with Melody White anymore, so she simply hung up the phone.
Vincent Vance had just returned from outside and, upon hearing the conversation between May Morgan and Melody White, walked over to comfort her: "Don’t get angry with those people; it’s unnecessary."
May Morgan’s heart had become as strong as iron from her long-term confrontation with her family, and this time, if not for her grandmother, she wouldn’t have even bothered to answer the call.
"Mason Morgan has already been summoned by the police; I’m worried Melanie Morgan will become alarmed. Did you really find someone to watch her? What if she escapes?"
"Don’t worry, the person I found is absolutely reliable." Vincent Vance’s lips curved slightly, revealing a confident smile, "If she escapes this time, you can deal with me as you see fit."
After Mason Morgan was summoned by the police, he only confessed to transferring money to that woman but refused to admit it was to destroy evidence and evade punishment. He told the police that the woman and he had some emotional entanglements, which is why he sent money to her. As for the matter of her murdering his mother, it might be because his mother didn’t like this woman, which led to a quarrel and then a murderous intent arose.
The police interrogated him for a long time, but he didn’t provide a single key testimony. Even more discouraging was that the woman seemed to have colluded with Mason Morgan. From previously clamming up about why she committed murder to, after Mason Morgan was arrested, suddenly admitting to an affair with him, which led to a private dispute with Mason Morgan’s mother, and thus murder out of anger.
Her testimony and Mason Morgan’s were nearly identical, as if they had pre-arranged what to say. This posed a significant challenge to the police in solving the case.
Director Lawson explained the case situation to May Morgan, and May Morgan expressed her wish to see Mason Morgan. After consideration, Director Lawson nodded in agreement.
To ensure May Morgan’s safety, Vincent Vance directly arranged for Jacob Jennings to accompany May Morgan to Crestwood; Jacob Jennings was highly capable, so protecting May Morgan wasn’t an issue.
The two arrived at the Crestwood police station, and Director Lawson arranged for May Morgan and Mason Morgan to meet alone in a room.
Upon meeting, May Morgan suddenly couldn’t hold back her reddening eyes. She knew Mason Morgan was overly protective of Melanie Morgan, which is why he tried everything to clear her charges. But the person who died was his biological mother; how could he stand to watch this?
"Mason Morgan, you really disappoint me." Facing the man in front of her, May Morgan felt so hopeless she didn’t even bother to call him Dad, addressing him directly by name.
Upon hearing May Morgan call him by name, Mason Morgan suddenly smiled self-deprecatingly: "I never gave you hope, so how can there be disappointment?"
May Morgan nodded, looking at him coldly and saying, "Yes, you admit it; it’s always been that way from childhood. You’ve never paid attention to me for a day. It’s my mom and my grandma who have raised me. If my mom hadn’t constantly reminded me I have a father, perhaps I would have thought he was already dead."
"I’m not your father!"
Mason Morgan clenched his fists, his voice turning cold, and he suddenly raised his head to look at May Morgan, speaking to her slowly and deliberately: "May Morgan, I’m actually not your father."
May Morgan had long guessed this conclusion. Since she came to Silverwood City, whenever there was an argument, her aunt Melody White would say she wasn’t biologically hers, that she was a wild child born outside. But her mother was so pure, so kind, how could she do such a thing?
"Mason Morgan, my mom’s dead. Even on her deathbed, she was still thinking of you. How could you bear to say this about her? Are you even a man?" May Morgan wiped the tears off her face and gritted her teeth in questioning Mason Morgan.
