Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 102: Danger in Crestwood
Vincent Vance’s eyes deepened, and the hand holding the chopsticks involuntarily tightened.
In a hoarse voice, he asked her, "Why did you suddenly have such an idea?"
May Morgan looked up at him, suddenly feeling a tightness in her throat. She had gathered the courage to confess to Vincent, but suddenly retreated, fearing that revealing these secrets might scare him into pushing her away.
Who would like to cuddle a monster at night, right? Vincent is human, just an ordinary person, who cannot escape superstition.
"It’s nothing, just with this first pregnancy, one tends to think about all sorts of things, right? I, I was just casually asking. Forget it if you don’t want to hear it, I won’t say anything more."
May Morgan hurriedly pretended she was joking and smiled at Vincent, then picked up her chopsticks to start eating her rice.
Vincent turned to look at her for a while, always feeling she had heavy thoughts recently. But whenever he asked, she brushed it off. Thinking it over, he let it go, perhaps it was just pregnancy syndrome, prone to thinking wildly?
Mason Morgan’s car departed at dusk, as Vincent had instructed to ensure his safety, so on the way back, Jacob Jennings specially called two skilled subordinates to accompany him.
As the group drove out of Crestwood slowly, the sky darkened. Mason Morgan turned to look at his hometown where he’d lived for over forty years, feeling an inexplicable sense of oppression gazing at the blood-red sunset on the horizon.
After they passed Crestwood’s boundary, the sky turned completely dark. The blue mountains and trees surrounding them, under the cloak of darkness, resembled terrifying monsters ready to swallow people whole.
The driver upfront held a certain reverence for Crestwood, and if not for Jacob Jennings’ orders, he really wouldn’t have wanted to travel late at night, thus he talked a lot with Mason Morgan, a native, during the drive.
"Mr. Morgan, does Crestwood have anything strange? Traveling at night, could we get attacked?"
Mason Morgan heard this, smiled lightly, and said to him, "Crestwood is remote, indeed there are some barbaric people, but traveling at night, just remember the three don’ts."
"What are the three don’ts?" The person beside him heard and immediately perked up, asking him.
"Don’t look, don’t listen, don’t smell." Mason Morgan feared the three hadn’t understood, so he carefully explained, "Don’t look means, at night, just keep your eyes on the road ahead, don’t look to the sides, no matter what happens there, don’t look, even if you see, pretend you didn’t. Don’t listen, means no matter what sounds occur outside, don’t listen, if you hear, do not be scared or fearful, just pretend you didn’t hear. As for don’t smell..."
Having said that, Mason Morgan looked around, gazed at the pitch-black scenery outside, then recoiled the look with trepidation: ’If you smell anything suspicious outside, remember to cover your nose quickly and speed up, don’t linger, otherwise...’
His words were abruptly interrupted by a strange aroma inside the car. A sweet yet bloody scent filled the air, unsettling to the stomach.
Mason Morgan called out in alarm, hurriedly shouting at the driver in front, "Cover your mouth, quickly, step on the gas, hurry forward, quickly!"
The driver, not yet understanding the situation, turned to look at him, noticing his pale face, not like he was joking. He hurriedly grabbed a towel to cover his mouth, then stepped on the gas, speeding ahead as if flying.
The person beside him quickly opened his clothes to cover his mouth, and turned on the ventilation in hopes of dispelling the strange aroma. But upon turning it on, the smell inside intensified.
"Close it, switch it off, don’t turn anything on!" Mason Morgan shouted in terror at the person.
The person, not daring to delay, quickly reached to turn off the air conditioning, but before his hand even touched it, a spider suddenly crawled out from the air vent.
The spider was large, about the size of a thumb, how could such a big spider just crawl into the car out of nowhere, through the air vent?
The man jumped in fright, quickly reaching out to swat, but just as his finger touched the spider, it suddenly opened its mouth and bit his finger.
"Ah!" With a scream of agony, a chunk of flesh was torn from the man’s finger, blood pouring and staining his pants a deep red.
"Damn, what happened?" The driver beside him, seeing this, quickly turned the steering wheel intending to stop and check on his colleague.
Mason Morgan, seeing this, was incredibly startled, shouting at him, "Don’t stop! Keep driving! Faster, just get out of Crestwood City’s boundary, quickly!" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
At his words, the driver, scared, floored the gas, daring not to stop, speeding forward.
The man bitten by the spider, enduring the agony, asked Mason Morgan, "Mr. Morgan, what on earth did we encounter? Why are you so scared?"
Mason Morgan looked at the spider he had stomped flat, a gloomy expression on his face, "Nothing, just keep driving. As I said, Crestwood has many aboriginals, we shouldn’t cause trouble, just leave safely."
As soon as he finished speaking, the air vent which had expelled the spider suddenly ejected several more spiders and centipedes. These insects were large, and each looked shiny and robust, terrifyingly so.
"Damn it, more of them!" This time afraid to use his fingers, the man pulled off his shoe and started slapping at the disgusting creatures crawling in.
But as soon as he killed one, more crawled in, and even the driver was scared, slamming on the brakes intending to park on the side.
Mason Morgan stood from the back, grabbed the steering wheel himself, yelling, "Are you suicidal? Keep driving, stop and we’re doomed!"
At his words, the driver paled, pressing down on the pedal, speeding away again. But just after accelerating, the vehicle swerved violently, crashing into the nearby bushes.
"Damn, the tire’s blown!" The driver realized something wasn’t right and quickly turned to Mason Morgan.
Mason Morgan looked frantically at the ever-growing insects crawling from the vent, pale-faced, he said to the two in front: ’Then let fate decide!’
With that, he quickly pulled out a wooden amulet from his chest, hardened his heart, then yanked open the car door and jumped out.
