You Think I Won't Talk?-Chapter 616
******* 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
It was only for five days that we ended up staying at home... this at my request, for otherwise the stay would have been shorter.
From the very first day we arrived more and more things came uncovered... although this was only thanks to the aid of Estelle who was the fairy that was allowed to come with us, leaving behind her home at the Palace.
"If Erna and the others were here, it would be easier to clean! Those fairies in the near forest are shyer than we from gardens so it is difficult to convince them to enter a human ceiling!!" — She protested day after day... still doing as needed in this place, tired but thoroughly for it would be a great help for me.
After reluctantly moving to my chambers since dad had ordered it that day, the discoveries began while crossing the halls of the mansion.
My concern for my dad’s heart would not be allowed to be considered nor settle down for more things were to be added to my worries one by one.
"... sister. There is something wrong with mom..." — Theressa said as soon as she closed the door behind her, while I could not even take a look at the chamber where so many things had happened.
"... I see nothing wrong with her. She is as hostile as she has always been to myself. I believe she is doing quite well for she does not even care to pretend anymore even at home."
"Uhm... well, that is true yet... that is not what I believe is wrong..."
"? Talk clearly. I am not in the mood for second-guessing. What is it that’s wrong in your eye?"
"Well... This might be because of the meeting from last night... however, when mom hugged me, I felt a similar sensation as I did when meeting the dark woman last night."
"... a similar sensation?"
"It is somehow everywhere here at home... but I may be mistaken."
"She’s not mistaken, Ninth~~!" — Coming to join us, Estelle who had separated to wander curiously around, said happily. Informing me much more about these suspicions while I was still sceptical to believe Theressa’s words. — "Our cleansing must be wonderful on the little girl to now notice it by herself!! The old woman is stained by a poisonous snake!! She was bitten not too long ago to strengthen its venomous curse!! Yet this place is no different! Many places here are horribly stained... like this... how may the people targeted not become demons?! Impossible, hahaha~!"
Infuriated the small creature protested to finally laugh, proving Theressa correct and making me ask a new request from it.
Theressa and I were to be together most of the time so we could mislead any who should be watching us. My tasks were not hindered by such for even if watched the fact that the other side knew my moves was not that bad an outcome.
Given the sayings of Estelle, I decided to look around the mansion to "kill time". This was something I already had in mind if I had the chance to return and if Paul was not around, although the circumstances differ from those I positively had in mind at that time.
The first place to visit was Theressa’s chambers. Since she was most of the time with me now, it was only obvious that I would go with her.
She did not know of course of what my true motives were, and so, a little too enthusiastic, she led the way when I said I would go with her to get her shawl as we were also to visit the library later.
"Please come inside, sister." — Theressa offered hospitably, knowing that she would need to go through her clothes to decide which one to take with her. — "Louisa, help me find a shawl and offer some tea to my sister."
"... yes, miss."
The maid was humble but sombre while following Theressa’s orders, yet it was only natural, for even with the knowledge I had from another life’s novel Paige had told me in one of our long conversations how this was one of the maids Theressa continuously abused.
"She is not tainted~ however her heart keeps hatred! Hehehe~ the small girl is hated~ she should be careful, Ninth~" — The fairy singsonged while flying fast over my head. Going to places while I reminisced about the times I was summoned there to be insulted. — "Blergh!! A trap was strongly placed in this bed! On the clothes as well, Ninth!! Gasp! The furniture too?! If the small girl stays here only harm will be caused to her!! It is similar to yours, although this one wants to infect ill intentions in the hearts that rest here!!"
’... if it is like that, perhaps without knowing it, Theressa has been wrapped in these kinds of traps from a young age... whoever is behind it knew exactly who they needed as targets...’
"Tsk tsk tsk... this witch is horrifying, Ninth. The bones are living here! I will come clean in the afternoon when the flower scents are stronger!!"
’... bones...’ — I thought standing in the middle of a seemingly harmless chamber. — ’Theressa would suddenly summon me when she was here... at times with no apparent reason... could it be that this so-called trap persuaded her into that...?’
"Sister, I have the shawl, should we get going?"
"..." — ’Is it possible? However... that would mean that she targeted me as well from long ago... is it because of our ancestor... or because she knew I was the nin—’
"Um... sister?" — Theressa asked once more, making me lift my eye from the carpet I was blankly staring at. Making me move so what should be done could be done.
"Let’s go."
She followed behind gulping down her curiosity and we visited the library next. Thankfully nothing appeared wrong there. Yet we had gone there not only to check the place, but more so for I wanted to find a certain book I had returned and Theodore had stored a while ago.
"My lady, here is the book. Only one copy is available... Is it that you want to r-read it once again? I thought you read it t-twice already. I u-understand for it is a great read, but I can r-recommend others if you would like."
"... Thank you, Theodore. I only want to check a few of its pages." — I answered, confident that no one else was around to hear me. Now searching the air as the curious fairy who had joined us had gone to explore without my eye being able to locate her. — "But since you offered... While we are here, do look for another piece to recommend to me. The other day you said Dad bought new ones from Latrishk didn’t you?"
"! Y-yes! With pleasure, my lady. Those b-books are in another language, although I heard they have nice stories. If it is alright, w-what subject would you prefer this time? Romance, history, languages, old scripts—"
"Is there any book that is psychologically challenging?"
"... huh?"
"Maybe one that shows a new form of strategies in the story."
"... I... I believe I have some in mind...! This... that.... Yes... Those, my lady would certainly l-like..." — He mumbled to himself, serious while holding his glasses, grinning as he thought of the pieces to choose and bring back for his master.
