"Kyle, Kyle."
Where am I? Is this another dream? Where will this one start?
That’s not right... This isn’t where my dreams start. There’s no desert here, no undead, no wind. Where am I?
"Kyle, Kyle."
Who is it? Who’s calling me? Why is everything so dark? Why can’t I see anything?
I see now!
So, this is the place. And it’s you two. My dear... father and mother.
"Kyle, it’s time to get up. This morning is the same as always, a five-kilometer run, and you’re not allowed to eat breakfast until you finish. You’re a child of the Wood family, and you’re the pride of the Wood family. Fatigue, pain, fear, none of these are reasons for you to back down. Do you understand?"
"Yes, father."
Hehe, I remember now. It was on my fifth birthday, wasn’t it? I vaguely remember that the snow was so cold that day, and the wind was so strong. Right, did I ever get to eat breakfast that day? I believe so. Huh, did I really forget such a minor thing?
"Mother, I..."
"Don’t talk, it’s time for breakfast. Have you forgotten your noble etiquettes? You are only allowed to speak when you have put your cutlery down and wiped your lips."
"But, mother, we’re not nobility, are we?"
"Did you forget the things I’ve told you in the past? The Wood family was once one of the noble families, and all its members adhered to the noble etiquettes. They were all gentlemen and ladies. Even now, the Wood family may be in decline, but we won’t let ourselves forget our glory and nobility even for a moment. Don’t forget this, even if our effort to restore our noble status failed, you won’t. You are the pride and future hope of the Wood family. You won’t, must not fail. If you don’t even understand this, then are you really worthy of the surname Wood?"
"Yes, mother, I will keep it in mind forever."
Ah, I almost forgot that I am the future hope of the Wood family. The things you could not finish, the dreams you could not achieve, you want me to carry them on. It’s a pity that it wasn’t until many years later that I realized these dreams were yours, not mine. freёwebnoѵel.com
"Stand up, Kyle, stand up for me. Hold your sword tightly, even if you have to crawl, get up. Are the two thousand sword slashes enough to bring you down? I’m disappointed in you. My son, how can you be so weak? Where is your courage, determination, fearlessness and resilience? If you continue to stay down, don’t call me father again."
"Concentrate, Kyle. The point of archery is to concentrate. Use all your potential, don’t tell me you can’t. Your goal is to be a perfect sage-like figure. In your heart, there should be no such word as "can’t do it". Concentrate for me, one thousand shots. No errors are allowed, absolutely not. Otherwise, I am ashamed to acknowledge you as my son."
Hehe, a perfect person, a sage, a synonym for virtue, dear father and mother, are these all the things you want to imprint in my soul? I accepted everything you instilled in me. I tried my best to become a perfect sage. But you probably never knew, being a perfect sage comes at a price. I wonder if you regretted it when you were on your deathbed while your only son was fighting a long distance away, risking his life to save a few unrelated people, all for the sake of so-called virtue? Yes, I regretted it, I deeply regretted it, because, I love you two.
"After lunch, there is half an hour of rest time. What are your plans?"
"Mother, I... I want to go for a walk. The neighbor’s child asked me to play with him yesterday."
"Is that meaningful? You are a person who is going to be a sage. Do not engage in meaningless activities. Every minute of your time is precious. You have no time to waste. Have you finished your language studies? How about Array Studies? And Emblematics, Mathematics, Overview of Magic, have you memorized all of these? Instead of wasting your time playing meaningless games, you might as well learn some more knowledge. Remember, you are the future of the Wood family. You are our son."
"Yes, mother."
Should I thank you? Because of the habits you instilled in me, I once fell into a state of compulsive learning, constantly studying became an instinct. It wasn’t until many years later that I realized this was not true life, but a distorted attitude. But it is because of the habits you gave me that I now know a little bit about everything, should I thank you for that?
"Pay attention in class, Kyle. The spirit of knighthood is an important part of nobility, you need to appreciate it."
"Kyle, don’t daydream, Magic Potion Studies is a complex subject, even a small mistake can lead to fatal consequences."
"Kyle, recite the characteristics of the plants in the Eastern Federation. If you get anything wrong, your dinner will be halved today."
"Kyle, wake up. Kyle."
"Kyle."
"Kyle."

"Pannis, wake up, you’re sleeping so soundly."
"Phew." Pannis abruptly sat up, staring blankly at Vivian, who had woken him up, "I’m a heavy sleeper when there’s no threat of killing intent. Is there a change outside?"
"Yes, your guess was very accurate." Catherine, hidden by the window, looked out, "Even though there is no movement yet, the concentration of the Energy of Death has already reached an alarming level."
"Where’s Dora?" Pannis didn’t notice the female knight anywhere around him, "She didn’t actually run away, did she?"
"Well, over there." Lina pointed to a trembling heap of blankets in the corner of the room. A tuft of auburn curls was visible from underneath the blankets, "She’s pretending to be a snail."
"Cough, cough." Pannis coughed a few times, "If she’s this scared of the Undead, how is she going to work as a mercenary? Mercenaries sometimes come across the Undead, don’t they?"
"She’s not scared of the Undead." Catherine explained, "She’s only scared of solitary ghosts among the Undead; nothing else frightens her. She had this weakness ever since her time at the Knight Academy."
"Let her be." Pannis shrugged, "But I’ve heard that ghosts love to pop out of corners."
The trembling heap of blankets in the corner suddenly froze, then quickly squirmed its way towards the four of them. It only stopped when it reached the middle of the group, resuming its shivering rhythm.
"I’ve also heard." Pannis smirked, "Ghosts often love to emerge from the ground. I wonder if in the enclosed space under a blanket, someone might suddenly find a pained face close-up..."
"Ahhhh, shut up!" Dora jumped up from under the blanket, grabbing Pannis’s collar and shaking him, "Shut up, shut up, shut up. It’s bad enough you forced me to stay here and go crazy with you guys, but to repeatedly scare me, I’ll take you down with me if you push me."
Pannis suddenly let out a forced laugh, secretly shooting a glance behind Dora. Dora paused, then started shaking Pannis’s collar again, "You’re trying to trick me again, I’ve fallen for it once, I won’t be fooled again."
Pannis didn’t respond, he just kept staring behind Dora, his expression frozen on his face. Dora swallowed hard, tentatively asking, "This time, it’s not, it’s not... real, is it?"
"Hehe, hehe." Pannis dryly chuckled, not giving an answer.
Dora helplessly turned to the three girls, but Lina, Vivian, and Catherine were all staring in surprise at whatever was behind her.
"Ahhhh, I can’t stand it anymore." Dora finally lost her patience, let out a yell, and threw herself against Pannis, burying her face in his chest.
"So gullible." Pannis shrugged nonchalantly, then noticed the three girls glaring at him and the Dora in his arms, he hastily tried to explain, "Uh... this was... an accident, you won’t believe me, will you?"
The three girls nodded in unison, glaring sharply at Pannis.
"I think, I can explain this." Pannis tried to take a step back but was hugged tightly by Dora, standing on the spot, sweating profusely, "You’ll listen to my explanation, right?"
The three girls once again nodded in unison, rubbing their other hand threateningly against their clenched fist.
"Well... actually, the situation is like this." Pannis’s eyes darted around. Cold sweat was trickling down his face, "Right, this explanation may be a bit long, how about we talk about it tomorrow? Oh,~~~~"
In the middle of speaking, Pannis let out a strangled cry, as if his neck was being stepped on. His face twisted in agony. Clutching his stomach, he slowly knelt on the ground.
The three girls all frowned, their faces twitched, "Oh, this must hurt a lot."
Dora grunted indignantly, pulled her knee back from kicking Pannis’s stomach, dusted off her chainmail, and walked toward the three girls, "So despicable, daring to trick me again and again. I sentence you to death!"
Pannis, who lost his support, knelt down, his body slowly falling forward. He ended up sprawled on the ground, butt up in the air, looking expectantly at Lina with his eyes rolled back in his head, struggling to reach her, "Save me, Lina."
Lina sighed, walked over to Pannis and knelt down on one knee. She took the silver law book from her waist and recited in a soft pitying voice, then placed the book next to Pannis’s face, "Kiss the book; it can give your soul eternal peace."
"Hey!" Pannis struggled to lift his head and yell, "I’m not dead yet, stop saying your last goodbyes."
"Oh, you’re not dead yet?" Lina slapped the book with a newfound realization, "But that’s alright. It seems that you’re nearly dead. We can start the ceremony early."
"That ceremony cannot start early, you bastard." Pannis’s voice was pitiful and full of grievances.
"You deserved it." Dora glared at Pannis, then turned her head to look out the window.
"So, are you not scared anymore?" Catherine stood beside Dora, smiling teasingly.
Dora blinked, her gaze shifting back to Pannis, who was still sprawled on the ground groaning. A hint of a smile appeared on the corners of her mouth, but she quickly turned her head away with a grunt.
"Shh, something’s happening." Vivian, who had been watching outside the window, suddenly gestured, "They are showing up."
