Yandere Levelling in Her World-Chapter 144 - 145: Norbata Clash
The six assassins stepped forward at the same time. Their coordinated approach was so precise that Melinda felt the ground tighten beneath her feet.
Silver lifted her hand.
"End her."
The other five blurred toward Melinda instantly.
Melinda fired the first shot. The special bullet cracked through the air and hit the short haired missile girl in the shoulder. The girl's metallic plating flickered, short circuiting, and her power snapped out like a light being switched off.
The girl stumbled back with a hiss.
"You bitch. That hurts."
But the moment Melinda tried to fire a second shot to actually harm her while powerless, the tall scanner girl appeared in front of her and slammed a kick into Melinda's ribs.
Melinda flew back and hit the asphalt hard.
"Gah!"
The twins dashed in immediately. The scythe swung down. Melinda rolled aside, firing another bullet, but the girl with crackling electricity slapped her hand outward. Lightning surged and the bullet fizzled uselessly mid air.
The electric girl smirked.
"Those bullets only stop powers. They don't stop me from punching your face out."
Melinda barely had time to roll as the missile girl, now powerless but still mobile, leapt forward and kicked her in the stomach.
Melinda gasped and staggered.
The second she tried to raise her gun again, another strike landed from the scanner girl's elbow. Her breath flew out of her lungs.
Each time she fired a neutralizing bullet, she could cut down one power. But she could not chain follow up shots fast enough. The five assassins attacked her in constant rotation, disrupting her rhythm before she could damage anyone.
A shadow passed behind her.
The shadowless twin blurred at her back.
Melinda twisted and fired point blank.
The neutralizing bullet hit the twin in the leg. Her distortion stopped.
But before Melinda could fire the second, damaging bullet, the scythe twin swung her weapon. Melinda blocked with her forearm and felt pain explode all the way to her elbow.
She cried out and fell to her knees.
The robed man inside the stalled car panicked. He threw the door open and fired wildly with a small handgun.
His bullets zipped past the assassins, missing them by inches.
Missile girl glanced back.
"Is that guy serious?"
Electric girl snorted. "He has the accuracy of a potato...but fuck it this is annoying."
But even those close shots forced them to move slightly, buying Melinda two seconds of breathing room.
Melinda fired again, her bullet scraping the electric girl's shoulder. Her lightning sputtered out.
"Damn it. That hit me," the electric girl growled.
Melinda raised the pistol for the follow up.
But a heavy boot slammed into her wrist and her grip broke. The gun skidded across the asphalt.
The scanner girl stood over her, calm and cold.
"You are outnumbered. You know this."
Missile girl, now with her power still disabled, walked forward with a grin.
"Why don't you just come quietly. We can skip the beating. We just want to kill you...we will let that man leave."
Melinda spat blood.
"No. I don't plan to die in the street like a stray dog."
All five of them moved at once.
Missile girl punched.
Electric girl kicked.
The shadowless twin blurred and struck at Melinda's ribs.
The scythe twin swung low.
The scanner girl grabbed her hair and yanked her up.
Melinda took the hits one after another. Her body jerked under the impact of every strike. She tasted blood. She felt her ribs grinding. Her gun was several meters away.
And Silver did not move at all.
She simply watched.
Not until she turned her head slightly.
Behind her, engines growled.
Multiple vehicles were approaching.
Silver's fingers twitched.
"So they finally arrived."
Missile girl glanced back. "More enemies?"
"Yeah," Silver said. "Her backup."
The black SUVs skidded to a stop behind Silver. Their doors swung open.
Silver whispered under her breath, her voice low.
"Mother. I will not let anyone embarrass you. I will find that woman and kill her."
Her threads shot forward.
The silver lines sliced through the air and cut the first SUV into three pieces. The metal groaned and split apart like it was made of soft clay.
The second SUV was slashed in half.
But not all of them.
From the ones that survived, soldiers in black tactical gear jumped out immediately. Their rifles pointed at Silver and her group.
One soldier shouted.
"Open fire!"
Gunfire erupted.
Bullets rained toward Silver.
Silver flicked her fingers. Her silver threads spread like a shield. Every bullet that touched them was sliced cleanly in half.
She walked forward calmly, blocking dozens in seconds.
Then a new sound echoed.
A heavy clunk.
A woman stepped out from behind one of the jeeps, carrying an RPG on her shoulder.
She did not hesitate.
She fired.
Silver's eyes widened. She flicked her threads to grab the missile.
She was fast.
But not fast enough.
The missile exploded mid air the moment her threads touched it. A shockwave blasted outward. The pulse was bright, loud, and sudden.
For an instant everything went white.
Melinda felt her ears ring.
Silver's threads froze mid air, then collapsed.
The electric girl's sparks vanished.
The scanner girl staggered.
The missile girl's arms returned to normal flesh.
The twins lost all enhancements.
Melinda's eyes widened.
"ENP missile."
She forced herself to stand.
She sprinted toward the robed man while the six assassins were helpless. She grabbed him by the collar.
"Move. Now."
"I am trying!" he yelled.
Melinda dragged him to the nearest SUV that was still intact and shoved him inside. She climbed in next.
The driver in tactical gear saluted her.
"Ma'am, boosters ready."
"Go," Melinda ordered.
The SUV shot forward.
Behind them Silver screamed.
"Follow her!"
But the moment she took one step, the remaining SUVs that her threads had not cut suddenly detonated.
Another ENP charge.
The shockwave hit Silver and her team full force. They were thrown across the road like rag dolls.
Silver crashed into a streetlight and rolled across the asphalt. She coughed hard, her vision blurred.
"Fuck. I failed again."
Her voice trembled with rage.
Meanwhile Melinda held onto the door handle inside the speeding SUV. Her breathing was sharp and fast.
Her second in command sat beside her.
The same woman who fired the RPG.
Melinda glanced at her.
"What is the situation?"
The woman hesitated for a moment.
"It is worse than expected."
Melinda's eyebrows lowered. "How bad."
"Our main lab. The central facility. Its location was exposed. To the world."
Melinda froze.
"What. How."
The woman exhaled slowly.
"It was Misa. That fucking scientist. She disappeared with her daughter Hiyori. Before leaving she leaked the lab coordinates and ruined everything she developed."
Melinda clenched her jaw.
"What about the key."
"She is still inside the energy tubes. That part is safe. But it seems Misa is not a woman who can be scared by threats."
Melinda leaned back in her seat. Her body still hurt everywhere. Her ribs felt cracked. But her mind was racing faster than the SUV.
She whispered.
"We start the project today."
Her second in command turned to her in shock.
"It is not ready. We still do not know what effects it will have."
Melinda closed her eyes for a moment.
"Whatever effects it has cannot be worse than this. Our entire organization is exposed. It will not be long before more parties come to hunt us."
The second in command looked forward.
She nodded reluctantly.
"Then the project Treacherous will reach its final stage today."
Melinda tightened her grip on the seat as the SUV disappeared into the night.
Her mind was no longer on Silver.
Not on the bullets.
Not on the injuries.
Only one thought pulsed in her head.
If Treacherous failed… then everything would fall apart.
And if it succeeded…
The world would fall apart instead.
In midst of all this Melinda had one question she wanted answers.
Where was Lan Jia and what was she doing?
Silver wiped the dust from her face, metallic threads trembling behind her like agitated serpents. The ENP blast still echoed in her bones, but the real wound, the one in her pride cut deeper.
Melinda was gone.
She clenched her fists until her nails dug into her palms.
Then her phone rang.
Her breath hitched.
She recognized the number instantly.
She answered. "…Mother?"
A cold voice snapped back, "Silver. Where are you? And why have you ignored my orders?"
Silver's throat tightened. She stared at the ruined street, her team scattered and struggling to stand. She couldn't hide what she'd done. Not from her.
"I…" Silver swallowed hard. "Mother, I tried to kill the woman mentioned in those documents. The one you were threatened to deal with."
Silence.
A long, terrifying silence.
Then Judith's voice returned soft, but razor sharp.
"I see. Then tell me… who ordered you to do this?"
Silver's hands shook. Her heartbeat thudded painfully in her ears.
"No one, Mother. I acted on my own. I thought… I thought it was the best course."
Another silence. This one colder.
Then:
"You are no longer part of my mission."
Silver's breath collapsed out of her. "M-Mother!"
A sudden, violent shock tore through her body. Her knees buckled and she fell face-first onto the road. Every nerve felt like it was being shredded from the inside out.
Her vision blurred as agony forced tears from her eyes.
"M-Mother… please!"
Judith's voice drifted through the speaker, devoid of emotion.
"You disappoint me. You are not my daughter. None of you are."
Silver choked, clawing at the asphalt as pain wracked her body. The phone slipped from her hand.
"Mother… don't… don't say that…"
But Judith had already ended the call.
Silver lay on the ground, shaking uncontrollably, the cold night air swallowing her broken breaths.
Judith had abandoned her.
And for the first time, Silver truly felt like she was done with her life.
