Chapter 49: Chapter 49, Legendary Grade Weapon as a Gift, Such Generosity!

The towering walls of Jianghe City came into view as the sun slowly climbed higher into the sky.

Morning activity had already begun.

Hunters walked through the main gates in groups, some returning from night hunts while others prepared to leave for the wilderness. Merchants shouted prices from roadside stalls, selling monster materials, potions, and weapons.

Lin Yi moved through the crowd quietly.

He didn’t attract much attention.

Just another academy student returning from a hunt.

But inside, his situation had already changed drastically.

Level 37.

A Mythical weapon.

Treasures from the Celestial Emperor’s Abode.

If any hunter in the city knew what he had gained overnight, the entire hunter market would probably erupt in chaos.

Lin Yi walked straight toward the academy.

The towering gates of Jianghe Hunter Academy soon appeared.

Students moved in and out of the campus, most of them still talking excitedly about the knockout stage that would begin in a week.

"...I heard some guild scouts are coming."

"Yeah, and Phoenix Academy will be watching too."

"Winning the tournament means direct recommendation!"

Lin Yi passed by them without stopping, his destination the dormitory building. The corridor was quiet when he arrived, most students still outside discussing the tournament. He reached his room and pushed the door open.

Inside, someone was sitting on the bed wrapped in bandages. The moment the door opened, they looked up.

"Lin Yi!"

Wang Hao. He looked miserable. His arms were wrapped in thick bandages, his ribs clearly bound tightly beneath his shirt, and a patch of medical tape sat across his forehead. But despite all of it, the moment he saw Lin Yi, his face lit up.

"Damn, brother, you’re finally back!"

Lin Yi closed the door and walked inside. "You should be resting."

Wang Hao leaned back on the bed and winced as the movement tugged at his injuries. "Besides, the nurses already said I’ll be fine soon."

Lin Yi looked at the bandages. "You don’t look fine."

"Hey, hey, don’t underestimate the academy medical department." Wang Hao raised a finger. "Those healing-class nurses are terrifying. They told me the wounds look scary but the internal damage isn’t that bad. With healing magic and recovery potions I’ll be fully healed by tomorrow." He paused. "Well... maybe half a day."

"That’s good."

A short silence settled between them. Then Wang Hao looked at him carefully. "You watched the match, right?"

"I did."

He scratched the back of his head, his expression shifting into something slightly embarrassed. "...That was pretty pathetic." He sighed and leaned back against the wall slowly. "I thought I had improved a lot after the wilderness training. But standing in front of Tang Yue..." His voice turned bitter. "...it felt like facing a mountain." He looked down at his bandaged hands. "She didn’t even take the fight seriously. But what can I do? She’s A-rank. I’m just a C-rank scout."

The room was quiet for a moment. Then Wang Hao forced a laugh and waved his hand. "Ah whatever, let’s not talk about that. The important thing is you’re still in the tournament." He looked at Lin Yi with open excitement. "You made it into the Round of 16, right?"

"Yes."

"I knew it!" Wang Hao leaned forward despite his injuries, wincing and not stopping. "Brother, you have no idea how crazy the rumors about you have gotten."

Lin Yi raised an eyebrow. "What rumors?"

"They’re saying the academy has a hidden monster. A Laborer who moves faster than a combat class. A freshman who beat Liu Ling in less than a second." He slapped the bed. "0.81 seconds! Even Chen Feng’s record got broken!"

"It was just a fast fight."

Wang Hao stared at him. "You say that like it’s normal." Then he laughed again. "Seriously though, when I saw you on the stage that day I knew you were hiding something."

Lin Yi didn’t respond. Instead he walked to the desk, and a moment later turned back with a weapon in his hand. The Abyssfang Blade. The legendary steel gleamed under the room’s light. Wang Hao blinked.

"...What’s that?"

Lin Yi walked over and held it out. "Take it."

Wang Hao froze. "Wait... what?" Lin Yi placed the weapon in his hands. The moment Wang Hao’s fingers wrapped around the hilt, his eyes went wide as the system prompt appeared in his vision.

Abyssfang Blade

Quality: Legendary

Attack Power: +195

His mouth slowly fell open. "W-what the hell..." His voice trembled slightly. "Attack power one hundred and ninety-five?" He looked up at Lin Yi in disbelief. "Brother, do you know how insane that is? My previous weapon barely had attack power of ninety!" He lifted the blade and stared at it as though it might disappear. "This thing is more than a hundred points stronger!"

"I don’t need it anymore."

Wang Hao blinked. "You don’t... need it?"

"I got something better."

Wang Hao stared at him for several long seconds. Then he burst out laughing. "Hahaha! I knew it! You went to the wilderness and found treasure again, didn’t you?" Lin Yi neither confirmed nor denied it.

Wang Hao shook his head in disbelief. "Brother, your luck is terrifying." He looked back down at the blade, admiration filling his expression. "This weapon alone could sell for a fortune in the hunter market." Then his voice softened slightly. "You’re really giving this to me?"

"You’ll need it."

Wang Hao’s grip tightened around the hilt, his eyes bright. "With this... my combat power will jump like crazy." He looked at Lin Yi seriously. "Thank you."

"No need."

Wang Hao leaned back against the wall, still holding the blade carefully. Then he laughed again. "You know what’s funny? A few days ago I thought the strongest freshman in the academy was Chen Feng." He tilted his head toward Lin Yi. "Now I’m not so sure anymore."

"You move faster than combat classes. You beat Liu Ling in under a second. And now you’re giving away legendary weapons like cheap knives." He shook his head. "You’re definitely hiding something."

"Well, whatever it is... I’m glad you’re on my side." Wang Hao looked down at the sword again, and then his expression turned serious. "Lin Yi."

"Yes?"

"You’re going to face Tang Yue eventually." He lowered his gaze slightly. "...Don’t do anything reckless because of me."

Lin Yi looked at him calmly. "I was planning to win anyway."

Wang Hao blinked. "...Win?"

Lin Yi turned toward the window. Outside, the academy courtyard was alive with students discussing the upcoming knockout stage, guild scouts, regional academy recommendations, and the Phoenix Hunter Academy invitation that awaited the tournament champion. His voice was calm and carried absolute certainty.

"I will win the tournament."

Wang Hao stared at him for several seconds. Then a slow grin spread across his face. "Good." He lifted the Abyssfang Blade and pointed it forward like a vow. "Then I’ll be cheering from the stands. Go take that championship."

Lin Yi looked out toward the academy arena in the distance. His expression was calm, as it always was. But deep within his eyes, a quiet fire burned steadily.

The tournament. The glory. The battles ahead. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

He would win. Without question.
