World's No. 1 Swordsman-Chapter 99: Trouble Stemming from the Five Gods
Chapter 99: Trouble Stemming from the Five Gods
Fei Lianzi had certainly thought of making Wang Sheng his disciple. However, with Mu Wanxuan standing before him as an obstacle, he refrained from persuading the boy. Even if he couldn't personally teach him, he could still bring him back as his junior brother or something of the sort anyway.
On second thought, though, Fei Lianzi realized that Bu Yu's cultivation was already approaching that of the older generation, and Fei Yu's swordsmanship was no weaker than that of Daoist elders who had trained in swordsmanship for a dozen or twenty years. There was also their master, Qing Yanzi, to worry about.
Uh... Given the current strength of the Shu Sword Sect, we can't really afford to provoke them.
It would be best to focus on forming a connection for now and see if, in the future, the strong sword cultivation atmosphere of his sect's mountain could attract Fei Yu to train there for a few decades.
Having made up his mind, Fei Lianzi stepped forward, clasped his hands, and smiled. "When your leg heals, we won't rush to the trial. I'll have a few of my martial uncles give you some guidance in sword cultivation and help sharpen your sword intent first. That should help you resolve my sword sect's urgent crisis. I rarely ask for favors in my life, but I must entrust this matter to you, Daoist Master Fei Yu."
"This is also a rare opportunity for me. No need to be so formal, Senior," Wang Sheng replied casually. He would always welcome opportunities where he could receive guidance from Daoist elders without having to owe them a favor.
Nearby, Zi Ling had picked up the willow branch her master had discarded. She then ran over to Wang Sheng, took the willow branch from him as well, and placed them into a nearby trash bin.
"Daoist Master Fei Yu." Fei Lianzi glanced at Mu Wanxuan, then shifted half a step aside, moving a little closer to Wang Sheng. "I have some medicinal patches that specialize in treating injuries from falls and blows. Would you like to give them a try?"
Wang Sheng replied, "No need to trouble yourself, Senior. My leg will be fully healed in a day or two. I'd like to take this opportunity to strengthen the bones in my leg."
"Very well; that's a good approach. My disciples and I won't disturb you two, then. This is my phone number. If you need anything, just give me a call. Even if you don't, you're welcome to call me anytime. We can continue discussing swordsmanship or even other matters."
Fei Lianzi handed over a business card. After Wang Sheng accepted it, the round-faced Daoist master nodded in satisfaction before floating away with his hands behind his back.
"Daoist masters, we shall meet again tomorrow! Hahahaha!"
Zi Ling hurriedly followed, seemingly worried that her master would cause trouble. Burdened with large and small bags, Li Gufeng cupped his hands in salute toward Wang Sheng before swiftly chasing after them.
As Wang Sheng's spiritual consciousness dispersed with the wind, he still vaguely heard Zi Ling's admiration.
"Master, are we staying here for the night? This place is expensive, isn't it?"
"Don't worry, the Special Investigation Unit is covering our expenses. Haaa, I didn't expect things to go so smoothly. Let's head back and video call the sect master so we can tell him the good news!"
"Daoist Master Wang's swordsmanship is incredible, Master, and Fairy Bu Yu truly has an immortal air! That aside, though, why do I feel like you turned into an elder who—just for a little bit—doesn't act his age?"
"Bah! I abandoned my dignified expert demeanor for the sake of our sect! This is a selfless sacrifice for the greater good of our great sword sect!"
As the elevator doors closed, their voices gradually faded. Wang Sheng chuckled softly. Every master-disciple pair had their own way of interacting. Fei Lianzi was the type who had no airs.
Qing Yanzi was mischievous, lazy, and impulsive. However, unlike Fei Lianzi, he was always composed and maintained the demeanor of a teacher. Wang Sheng and Mu Wanxuan would never dare joke with their master in such a manner.
Mou Yue rummaged through her shoulder bag and took out Wang Sheng and Mu Wanxuan's room cards. "Daoist Master Wang, Daoist Master Bu Yu, if there's nothing else, I'll head back to assist with the work. The team is short on manpower right now. The interrogations are only a quarter done, and a large number of personnel have been reassigned to monitor the internet."
Wang Sheng smiled. "Don't push yourself too hard. Maintaining a good balance between work and rest is important. Are you guys interrogating all the cultivators captured earlier one by one?"
"Yes." Mou Yue glanced around the parking lot, confirming that no one was nearby, and then lowered her voice anyway. "We were going to let the Daoist sects' disciples go home until we received orders from the top. Now, our directive is to impose the lightest punishment, which is a week of detention.
"Those involved in injuring others will be dealt with strictly, and it goes without saying that the corrupt cultivators with criminal records will be made into examples. We have also confirmed that only a handful of disciples from the sacred Daoist mountains actually rushed into the river that night."
Wang Sheng reminded, "It's best not to escalate conflicts with cultivators too much. Right now, the path of cultivation is still in its early stages. Though cultivators have limited abilities at the moment, there's no telling what kinds of spells and divine abilities they might develop in the future."
Mou Yue smiled. "Understood. I'll pass on your suggestion to the team as soon as possible. It seems you're already settling into the job. Mr. Consultant. Don't worry, though. Soon, the investigation unit will be stepping into the public eye and hosting a grand event for the cultivation world, bringing together righteous cultivators."
Soon? Wouldn't that be the Hua Republic's first Grand Tournament of the Immortal Dao?
Wang Sheng could still clearly remember the event. Although only cultivators could participate, rumors about it spread all over the internet.
Mou Yue; Bulldozer, who had been standing guard; and the two who had been with Fei Lianzi and his disciples bid Wang Sheng and Mu Wanxuan farewell. They then departed together.
Once they were alone, Mu Wanxuan breathed out slowly and suddenly pressed her left hand heavily onto Wang Sheng's shoulder.
"O-o-ow! That hurts, Senior Sister..."
"Hmph."
What's wrong with her? Is she upset about something?
Wang Sheng chuckled softly as he took the sword case and suitcase from her hands. Mu Wanxuan then pushed him into the elevator. Once they were back in the suite, Mu Wanxuan didn't immediately unpack. She instead washed her hands and helped Wang Sheng examine his bone injury.
Wang Sheng quickly saw through her, however. Considering her personality, she would have likely carried him up. Hence, he immediately jumped from the wheelchair onto the bed. As a dignified man, having his senior sister princess carry him would be too much for his pride.
Being single is ultimately a matter of one's abilities, huh...
"Here," Mu Wanxuan took out two bags of snacks from the suitcase and handed them to Wang Sheng. As usual, she tried to ease the pain through food.
Afterward, she knelt beside the bed, carefully took off Wang Sheng's shoes, and rolled up his pant leg. She then looked at his ankle, which had been hastily wrapped in gauze, and gently blew on it.
Wang Sheng sighed. "Senior Sister, are you applying some kind of immortal breath? It almost feels like my injury is healing already."
Mu Wanxuan playfully stuck out her tongue at him. "Bleh."
As if about to press down on his injury, she slowly moved her fingers closer. However, she instead channeled her true essence into his bones, carefully nourishing them.
The two cultivated using the Pure Yang Immortal Mantra, and they shared the same lineage. However, Mu Wanxuan's true essence was far more refined and powerful than Wang Sheng's, making her healing far more effective.
Wang Sheng propped himself up on his elbows, lying back as he watched his senior sister's face, partially hidden behind her long hair. A deep sense of peace settled in his heart.
"Senior Sister, does Martial Aunt Jingyun really want to take Junior Sister as her disciple?"
Since Mu Wanxuan couldn't verbally communicate, she only nodded and met Wang Sheng's gaze, answering with her eyes. "Mm."
Someone should invent a blinking-input keyboard.
Wang Sheng chuckled. "Senior Sister, stop for a second. I've got something interesting to show you."
With a wave of his left hand, he pulled over the boxes containing the Primal-Qi Gather and the Multipurpose Primal-Qi Gloves, ready to show them off.
Mu Wanxuan curiously glanced at the boxes beside him, then at the sword case that he had placed at his bedside. She had no idea where her junior brother kept getting such strange things.
"Look at this!"
Wang Sheng first pulled out the Primal-Qi Gatherer. He intended to hand it to his senior sister, but he quickly realized that it was the male version. His senior sister had a slender neck and well-defined collarbones, but below that... it definitely wouldn't fit.
Her elegant aura always made people overlook her figure. It could come across as disrespectful, but now that he had thought about it, his senior sister's body was... pretty amazing.
"Let me show you how it works." Wang Sheng sat up straight. When he looked at his senior sister, who was quite close to him, all stray thoughts vanished instantly.
Mu Wanxuan smiled gently at him as she quietly watched. However, just as Wang Sheng finished putting it on and was about to activate it, his phone vibrated.
Mou Yue? Hasn't she just gone back?
As soon as he answered the call, Mou Yue's anxious voice came through the receiver.
—Daoist Master Wang! We have an emergency!
"What happened?"
Mou Yue took a deep breath before answering.
—A few minutes ago, corrupt cultivators suddenly attacked one of our eastern coastal branch offices without warning. Our colleagues stationed there suffered heavy casualties.
—It seems they're retaliating for what happened last night. Currently, we have confirmed that the Five Gods Cult, Tianlin Sect, and a few other major evil Daoist factions are involved! Several Illusory Core Realm corrupt cultivators took part in the attack, including the Flowing Water God and Metal Iron God. They coordinated their ambushes simultaneously.
—Right now, they are heading toward the coast with hostages, preventing us from using firearms. They have demanded to discuss the order of the cultivation world. Daoist Master Wang—sorry, I need to calm myself down first.
The line quieted down. After some time, Mou Yue broke the silence.
—Here's the situation. They specifically want our captain and the cultivator who killed the Wood Yin God to enter negotiations with them. We're currently working on a rescue plan, but we'll probably need you to help stall for time."
"Alright. Send a car to pick me up. I'll head over to meet you now," Wang Sheng responded immediately.
—Bulldozer will be downstairs in two minutes. From there, we'll transfer you to a helicopter that will take you to the nearest military airport. The captain and our team are already en route. We should reach the scene in about three hours.
—The closest Special Warfare Unit members have already been deployed. They have also activated emergency response protocol, which means the situation could already be dealt with by the time we arrive. Even so, we still sent urgent assistance requests to nearby righteous Daoist sects.
The authorities were quick to respond this time, which only made sense. The Fire Sage's previous acts had been nothing but a disturbance. Meanwhile, this situation was a direct provocation from the evil Daoists. They had clearly gone too far.
Wang Sheng ended the call and turned to his senior sister.
"Wait for me here, Senior Sister. You don't have to get involved in this. Don't worry. Those evil Daoists won't succeed. They've gotten so arrogant that they think they can negotiate, but they have no idea how much power can be mobilized against them when we get serious."
With a serious expression, Mu Wanxuan frowned slightly. She slowly shook her head and then grabbed her phone. After some searching, she pulled up an image that she had never shown him before.
It was of a lone swordsman walking into the mist, sword in hand.
She gestured at the screen, then at Wang Sheng, then at herself. Realizing she still couldn't fully express what she wanted to say, she took a deep breath. Then, she articulated four words slowly and firmly.
"I'll...
"Go...
"With...
"You!"
Wang Sheng gulped, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. Unable to reject his little senior sister, he ended up nodding in agreement. "Alright. We'll go together."
