World's Best Protagonist [BL]-Chapter 77: Three Chambers
Chapter 77: Three Chambers
"He didn’t know I was already awakened. So when he found me, he offered help to awaken me, in return for joining his organization."
Imagine my surprise when dear old Patrick came up to me as soon as I entered the NSA and escorted me to one of the executive floors. I half-expected that I’d be brought to the same interrogation room Claude brought me the first time, so I was really shocked when they led me to a big room.
I thought that maybe this was a simple meeting, but now, as I sat in the center before three people sitting behind a long table like panelists, and six men standing behind them, I realized it was not that simple.
General Archie Rivas of the National Security. What the fuck is someone like him doing here?
Well, he’s just someone who holds the highest authority in the Seeker department—the 1st Chamber, his job is to oversee Seekers’ deployment, applications, and things related to Seekers.
I knew those chambers weren’t referring to rooms or something else. They are someone else.
Next to the General, DFA Executive Secretary Layla Mio—2nd Chamber, her job is to oversee Seekers’ deployment internationally and deal with the NSA’s affairs with foreign Seeker organizations.
Lastly, next to her, billionaire Joseph Armand—3rd Chamber, the one providing resources and money to the NSA for the wellness, improvement, and safety of the Seekers.
I believe Juris, that long silver-haired doctor who examined me before, was working directly under him. So, he must be the person who ordered Juris to keep my ability a secret.
I wondered if all of them, including the six men in black suits standing behind them, who I assumed were their bodyguards, were all awakeners.
My father’s dealings must be big time that the three chambers had to appear and interrogate me personally.
The past few days, I did nothing but explain, answer, and inquire. All these talks are tiring.
"When did he find you?"
I focused on General Rivas. He was an old man, not so old, but his eyes were still as sharp and calculating. He was hinting that my awakening was suspicious. Hence, the time stamp.
"Three weeks ago. One of his minions accidentally recognized me during a Seeker’s funeral. I was chased, caught, and brought to his place."
"And you did not report it." The general’s eyes narrowed at me.
Dealing with skeptical and cunning people is exhausting. Why ask if he knew the answer already? He’s a fucking general of a national security!
"I held no evidence. I have no witness. If I reported it at that time, do you think we would have a lead on these overlords? They’d clean their turf and pretend they were just innocent businessmen."
General Rivas’s bearded face darkened. Another voice chimed in, surprisingly taking my side.
"Seeker Jade Dela Torre got a point, General Rivas. And I’m sure Commander Lan had him investigated and his abilities reported to you already. Due to his passive ability, he wasn’t aware of it until he met a high-ranking Seeker. Is that right, Seeker Jade?"
Joseph Armand asked me with a polite smile. He was suspicious. Just my instincts. He’s kind of similar to Noir, smiling politely and amicably while hiding a strange glint in his eyes behind those eyeglasses.
He looked too young to be a billionaire.
I nodded at him. His smile grew wider.
"That’s settled. Then, let’s move on to a more pressing matter now, shall we?" Joseph asked as he leaned forward slightly, clasping his fingers together over the table, as his polite smile remained firmly in place.
This time, it was Exec. Sec. Layla Mio threw the question. "Seeker Jade Dela Torre vanished for two days after exiting the infernal vortex. You unexplainably disappeared, as the report said. In your files, your ability was Nullification—a power that cancels powers. Did you suddenly have a teleportation ability too?"
"No."
"Then, enlightened us how did that happen?"
I groaned inwardly. The executive secretary made me feel like a politician involved in heinous crimes and getting drilled or trialed in Congress.
She was sitting straight with most of the papers in front, while her dead eyes stared at me.
How am I going to explain that without raising suspicion? Without telling them the whole truth? Ugh, whatever!
"I suddenly did not feel well, so I disappeared as soon as I stepped out. I’m sure anyone would rather die than take a dump right then and there. I was just so glad I could run as fast as lightning."
"Enhanced speed?" General Rivas crossed his arms above his broad chest. He briefly scanned the paper before him, then gave me a doubtful look again. "It’s not in your profile." freewēbnoveℓ.com
"It’s a sub-ability, and it’s not that great, so I didn’t bother including it."
"Indeed?" The general grunted; his bearded face was still set in a hard frown. "So, you took a dump that lasted for two days? What? Did you took your time and farted your innards while you were at it, washed them first and then shoved them back inside?"
That was gross.
Joseph laughed. I’d like to as well, but laughing at the general’s face might put me into another kind of trouble.
I bit my cheeks, puffed a short sigh, and then once I was calm, I answered. "I was resting after that."
There was a pause.
"Resting?" Layla repeated, her tone remained detached, but her gaze was scrutinizing this time.
I shrugged. "I just fought for my life. Pretty sure that entitles me to some recovery time."
Joseph nodded his head, a bit amused. He tapped his fingers against the polished wood of the table in a slow, deliberate manner. Then, he asked next, "Then, Seeker Jade, during that time, were you approached by anyone from your father’s organization?"
"No," I immediately answered.
That’s the main reason for this meeting, isn’t it? The only child of one of the seven lords of the Underworld Organization was working right under their noses.
If he’s not suspicious, then great, but his existence could be bait to catch the remaining ones—that’s probably what they were thinking.
I could inherit his legacy unwillingly, or I could also be the target of his enemies, for example, another lord with whom he had a conflict.
Absurd to think that way, but those kinds of people don’t see reason. Arrogance, pride, greed, or just simply looking for fun things to do, are what drive them.
As Dr. Four Eyes said before, these superhuman abilities mess with the frontal lobe. Having goals like building an empire in another world is crazy proof of it.
