Work Prophet-Chapter 897 - 62: Everyone Deserves a Two-Day Weekend
The previous battle did not last long, but the commotion it caused still woke some people, Kaden being one of them.
Her tent was not far from Ireya's tent, but by the time she got dressed and came out, the battle was over, and Kaden noticed that there were many more guards patrolling nearby.
She also saw the Guard Captain not far away, so she walked over, "Sir Thomas, what happened?"
Thomas had already removed the armor from his upper body, and an attendant was rubbing the Double Rest Sect's injury ointment on him.
The Guard Captain turned his head at her words, nodding to Kaden, "It's nothing serious, we just found an assassin earlier. I fought with him, and we both got a little injured, but he got away."
"Is it that woman named Selena from before?"
Thomas noticed Kaden's gaze on his dented chest armor and shook his head, "No, it's someone else."
"Then he must have incredible strength, like a bear, otherwise, he couldn't have dented your armor like this. Are you sure he's fled and won't return?" Kaden asked.
"Yes, he was injured too. My sword also cut him," Thomas replied, "He shouldn't come back anytime soon, and I'll increase the patrols afterwards."
"That's good. We are about to take Lionheart Fortress, and the Queen's safety is crucial at this time," Kaden said.
"Thanks for the reminder," the Guard Captain replied.
Kaden looked around again and, seeing nothing noteworthy, turned and returned to her tent.
For safety's sake, she planned to have Ruby question a few guards who patrolled tonight.
The little maid had now deeply fallen for her, obeying her every word.
Even if Kaden asked her to assassinate Ireya, she probably wouldn't refuse.
On the other side, Li Yu and Cornelia found a nearby empty tent, where Li Yu told the Female Priest everything he had seen in that white building.
Then he said, "The 'battery' in Lab No. 2 is the key to everything. Without the 'battery', the Ark can't set sail, and most importantly, the Third Era loses the ability to kill believers from other dimensions."
"A headless giant corpse..." Cornelia pondered for a moment, then said, "I rely on a bone to collect and store faith."
"Whose bone?"
"I don't know who the owner of the bone is. It doesn't look human or like any animal. Hearing you say this, I have a guess that maybe it's something left by those ancient deities, a part of their bodies."
Li Yu nodded, "That's a reasonable speculation. Do you know how to destroy them?"
"I've never tried anything like that... I've treated it with great care since I got the bone, but I can research it. I've hidden it in a secret location on the new continent, and I'll go back tonight."
Cornelia hesitated to speak further.
"What, do you have any other questions?"
"You should know that even if I find a way to destroy the bone, it might not work on the headless giant corpse."
"I know. To save this continent, we might need a bit of luck."
"And, you mentioned the white building is heavily guarded."
"Yes, but I'll find a way to infiltrate it," Li Yu said, "I've already gained the trust of the board."
"And most importantly," Cornelia finally voiced the thought buried in her heart.
"If you succeed, you might never be able to return to this continent.
According to you, each descent requires the company's special teleportation equipment. Without the headless giant corpse storing faith, those devices might not be operational."
After the Female Priest finished, she noticed Li Yu's expression remained calm, "You thought of this possibility long ago?"
"Once I destroy the headless giant corpse, even if those teleport devices can still be used, the Third Era won't allow me to use them anymore," Li Yu said.
"Besides, I don't plan to come back. I've always lived on a planet called Earth, which I don't belong here."
Cornelia was greatly shocked, "Does that child know?"
Li Yu shook his head, "Help me keep it from her. Ireya is not good at hiding things. If I tell her the truth, Kaden, who is always by her side, will easily notice something is wrong."
"Isn't there any other way?" The Female Priest was still a bit unwilling.
Although the two had been enemies not long ago, after seeing Li Yu's memories, Cornelia felt nothing but respect and admiration for the man before her.
"My world is about to be destroyed." Li Yu said softly, "Someone told me I need to take responsibility and preserve a seed of my civilization.
"I think what he said makes sense. I've already left a seed, and it's here."
"During this time, I've brought over quite a few scientists and experts' souls, plus the ordinary people I've intermittently brought over before.
"Though their numbers are small, less than two hundred, it's enough to preserve most of another dimension's technology and knowledge.
"As for the rest, there are too many politicians and excellent entrepreneurs, and they are undoubtedly very, very important people. So I think they are better left in the places that need them.
"Recently, a Wise Man taught me a great philosophy. He said, for the continuation of civilization, we could, if necessary, sacrifice the remaining eight billion people.
"Then I realized that preserving civilization doesn't actually require two million people—two hundred will do.
"So, killing the remaining two million people isn't as difficult as I imagined."
Li Yu paused, his tone turning gentle, "Besides, I've already left the most precious thing behind."
"What's that?" Cornelia asked.
"Dual rest, hoping that everyone on this continent can have dual rest in the future, I've written it on the first page, in bold, to ensure everyone can see it and won't forget it."
"Rest shouldn't be deprived. It is an inborn right for everyone, like breathing, deserving protection. My Church exists for this matter.
"Thank you, Prophet, I will do my utmost to protect what you have left behind," Cornelia said solemnly.
"Alright, everything important has been discussed," Li Yu said, "If there's nothing else, I'll go find Ireya. She probably hasn't slept yet and is waiting for me."
