Wizard: Start with Biological Transformation to Grind Experience-Chapter 122 - 030: Terror
Chapter 122: 030: Terror
A short stature of just 1.34 meters, a squat and obese torso, paired with an exaggerated mouth full of sharp teeth.
That’s right, it was none other than Barton of Shadow Swamp.
At the Wizard Market, Lynch had learned that this guy had been looking for him—or rather, the revenge mark on him. Coincidentally, Barton was now nearby. Naturally, such a free brawler had to be exploited.
Indeed, that black smear Lynch had tossed onto Rolf a while back was none other than the revenge mark, an artifact he’d cleaned off years ago and had never disposed of.
Originally, Lynch had kept it out of sheer curiosity about its mechanism, intending to use it for research. Who could have anticipated it would come in handy in such a situation?
At this moment, Barton’s arrival instantly turned the tables.
"Hehehe, gotcha!"
Barton’s already exaggerated mouth expanded several times larger in the blink of an eye, transforming into a horrifying maw that chomped toward Rolf.
Rolf’s Water Bubble, which Lynch had struggled to budge even a fraction, now seemed utterly pointless. Barton’s mouth shredded it effortlessly and bit down on Rolf.
"AHHHHHH!!!"
Caught off guard, Rolf’s half-body was instantly bitten off. From his left shoulder along his throat down to his waistline, a crescent-shaped gap opened up—organs and blood spewing out wildly, painting a ghastly scene.
"Master!"
Rolf’s subordinates and followers turned pale. Having assumed earlier they had the upper hand, they had all relaxed their vigilance. No one had anticipated such a turn of events.
They shouted as they rushed to Rolf’s side, simultaneously trying to treat his injuries and fend off Barton.
Despite suffering such a horrifying wound, Rolf didn’t die immediately. His body surged with a massive amount of Water Element, forming a large sphere that enveloped the damaged portion of his body, temporarily staving off his injuries.
Furious and shocked, he demanded from afar, "Who are you?! Why did you attack me?!"
Barton gave him a quizzical look, as if regarding a fool: "Do I need a reason to eat people?"
And with that, Barton launched himself toward Rolf without further ado.
"Damn it!"
Rolf cursed loudly and immediately ordered, "Take him down!"
Whether he liked it or not, when faced with such an uncommunicative monster, combat was the only option.
The battle resumed, erupting rapidly into a fierce clash.
Meanwhile, Lynch had already retreated far away with Avery, hiding outside the fray as he observed. After all, it wasn’t every day you got to witness such a high-level showdown.
Avery’s shock was palpable. "This is... Who’s that?"
Lynch explained, "You could call him our reinforcement for now."
Avery was puzzled. "You know him?"
Without turning his head, Lynch responded, "Sort of."
Avery stared at Lynch in bewilderment, unable to comprehend how this Muggle always managed to pull out unexpected cards to turn the tide in moments of despair.
Meanwhile, the battle in front had reached a critical stage.
According to the notes left behind by Richard, as one of the three most powerful High-level Apprentices in Shadow Swamp, Barton had meditated upon eight Basic Will Runes years ago. It was safe to assume he now wielded nine, which placed him far above Rolf in raw strength.
But Lynch knew that the difference in spiritual power here was relatively minor; the true chasm between Barton and Rolf lay in magical expertise.
As a Wizard specializing in Bloodlines and Body Refinement, Barton had adhered rigorously to this path of development. His body had been systematically transformed, undergoing organ transplants and the integration of various chaotic bloodlines.
Take his mouth, for instance—its cells had been transplanted from the Third-tier Transcendent Life Star-devouring Rat, while its teeth hailed from the Sawtooth Demon. Even his stomach had undergone numerous modifications, granting it extraordinary digestive capabilities.
Additionally, his skin was transplanted from the highly resilient Giant Iron Rhinoceros, and his muscles had been enhanced with specialized Magic Potions.
After undergoing such a series of transformations, Barton’s physical attributes had reached terrifying levels, easily rivaling those of a Great Knight. And his devouring mouth boasted attack power exceeding 60-degree coefficients; Rolf’s Defensive Magic was laughably inadequate in comparison.
The consequences of such a monster charging into a crowd were unimaginable.
"AHHHH!"
"My hand! My hand!"
"Monster!!"
Horrifying screams echoed sporadically among the people. Barton rampaged through the masses, devouring anyone who dared approach. His victims were either bitten to death or consumed whole.
Rolf, trying to hold his ground, rallied his apprentices for a relentless counterattack, casting spells against Barton.
But their prized attacks failed even to penetrate Barton’s defenses.
The Giant Iron Rhinoceros, renowned for its formidable defenses and high resistance to all elements, had lent its skin cells to Barton. This upgrade had skyrocketed his defensive attributes to terrifying levels.
Unable to compete in either offense or defense, Barton bulldozed through opposition like a grim reaper, devouring Knights and apprentices alike under relentless magical bombardment.
"Run... Run away!"
"It’s a monster—an unbeatable monster!"
"Run, quickly!!"
The ordinary soldiers, unprepared for such carnage, fled in terror. When they witnessed Barton swallow a soldier whole, their formation collapsed as cowardice spread like wildfire.
Isaac and the Knights desperately tried to halt the retreat but to no avail. Even brandishing swords and executing deserters failed to restore order.
Soon, almost all the soldiers had fled. The remaining apprentices and Knights proved no match for Barton, falling prey to his unyielding onslaught—either bitten to death or consumed.
Even Isaac, who gathered his courage and tried to stop him, ended up decapitated by Barton.
In the face of overwhelming strength, numbers were meaningless.
Seeing the hopeless situation, Rolf instinctively attempted to flee. But no sooner had he tried to escape than Barton caught up with him.
If even a fully intact and at-peak Rolf couldn’t withstand Barton’s terror, his current wounded state left him utterly defenseless. Within mere moments, Barton ended his life as well.
"Master Isaac is dead!"
"Master Wizard is dead!!"
With the deaths of its leaders, the group’s morale plummeted into crisis, scattering like the wind.
Moments later, the once-chaotic woods grew tranquil once again.
"Hah!"
"Hahh...hah..."
Heavy panting punctuated the now quiet forest.
On the edge of the woods, Lynch stared wide-eyed at the scene, his gaze bearing not just tension but a rapidly spreading excitement.
Strong!
Incredibly strong!
No fancy techniques or showy attack forms—a crude, straightforward rampage smashing through everything with raw power. It was a perfect display of the beauty of brute strength.
’Now this is true power!’
"Lynch... Lynch..."
Avery’s voice piped up beside him. Her terrified gaze lingered on the monster before them as she pleaded, "Let’s... Let’s run... Let’s get out of here now."
Though she had no idea where Lynch had conjured this horrifying ally, she was certain the entity had no loyalty to Lynch and wouldn’t obey his commands.
"No!"
Shaking his head firmly, Lynch declined, "Running isn’t an option."
Given Barton’s three-dimensional attributes and his Split Demon Hound’s formidable tracking capability, escape was impossible. This was the core reason Lynch had chosen to remain and observe the battle instead of fleeing during the chaos.
Avery panicked, asking, "Then... Then what do we do?"
Steeling his grip on his Great Sword, Lynch answered decisively, "We kill him."
Avery thought Lynch had lost his mind. How could they possibly stand a chance against something that had just wiped out Rolf’s group entirely?
She struggled to comprehend why Lynch, in this dire circumstance, suddenly appeared completely confident.
Wiping a tear from Avery’s cheek with his thumb, Lynch smirked mockingly. "Stop blubbering. Smile for me, will you?"
Without waiting for her reaction, he gripped his Great Sword and began floating toward Barton’s direction.
