Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Winter Fire Festival

...

Holding the reward.

Lin Suo quickly returned to Rhein Bookstore.

Regarding the slang on the Moon Elf box, he could understand it. It wasn’t the location of Moon God Island, but a story about the Royal Family of the Moon God.

The story was beautiful.

It was a love story between a princess of the Royal Family and an ordinary elf, rather cliche. Lin Suo only skimmed through it and didn’t remember the details.

He now had three more witchcraft spells in hand.

Of course, he wanted to devour them quickly, then grind to a +1, and reach Green Grade, which would then make them somewhat useful.

This way, his defense was incredibly strong.

Attack, defense, movement, support—the All Things Synthesis witchcraft could accomplish it all, a very handy multitool witchcraft!

He estimated that upon breaking through to the Purple Level, it would reach the power of a Rare Grade Apprentice Level witchcraft, which was considered quite strong among Wild Wizards.

The Moon Blade Leopard could be contracted, worth keeping an eye on.

If only he could use the Power of Synthesis to Transform it into something unique, but sadly, it still wasn’t possible.

Lin Suo had an intuition.

When he reached the formal Wizard Realm, the Talent given by the Magic Cube: All Things Synthesis, would undergo a qualitative change.

Magic Hand would be completely relegated to a domestic witchcraft.

Extremely practical.

Lin Suo even wanted to make a sedan chair, to be carried around by several blue palms.

It wasn’t laziness.

His typical grinding of Skill Levels was so intense that he would feel drowsy as soon as he relaxed. He deserved to enjoy some comfort.

The last round of plans had been almost accomplished.

Only the matter of seeds and the title was left.

All cultivation goals had been met, so naturally, it was time to revise the second round of cultivation plans.

The Black Octopus Flower Reagent could now be produced stably.

There were quite a few in the Night Garden.

Which meant that meditation cultivation would be twice as fast. At this rate, by early next spring, he could break through to the realm of an Advanced Wizard Apprentice, at most two months.

This was very good.

Furthermore, the new Knight Breathing Method had reached +3 Purple Level, so he set a minor goal to bring them all up to the +5 limit and then merge with the Original Moon Beast Breathing Technique.

He would complete the path beyond the Peak Knight.

He was going to be a man who surpassed limits!

The intense cultivation plan was set for two months, starting the day after tomorrow.

With a plan in mind, Lin Suo began his intense cultivation.

In the morning, he would grind the Skill Levels of witchcraft, in the afternoon practice the Knight Breathing Method, in the evening meditate, and in the middle of the night, practice his proficiency in [Skill] abilities.

He only slept three hours a day and was energetic every day.

He even used his noon time to study the Power of Synthesis, and now that he had money, he could acquire most ordinary plants and even buy common Magic Plants.

He could make one-time use Artificial Magic Stones but dared not trade them, though they easily sustained the Night Garden.

And so, after some time, the garden had many more Magic Potion plants, in addition to the Enlightenment Flowers and Black Octopus Flowers.

Ordinary was acceptable, but he was afraid it wasn’t comprehensive enough.

Collecting mania and hamster syndrome had almost etched themselves deep into Lin Suo’s bloodline.

Unknowingly, a month passed by.

Today was the last day of December.

It was also a festival.

The Winter Fire Festival!

Also known as "Eternal Night," it was a festival where Wizards celebrated the end of the Age of Gods, representing the end of the cold winter, and the new fire’s rebirth like a Phoenix from ashes.

The rebirth of mankind!

Located in the south by the coast, Koster rarely saw snow. This year, however, it did snow a few times but seldom presented a landscape of snowy mountains and grounds.

As a mixed habitation city.

Races other than humans had been living here from generation to generation and had long integrated into human customs.

Lin Suo initially thought he would be able to spend the festival with a little Elf girl.

But for some reason, ever since they parted from the Nature Association that day, Valia had never come back to find him at Rhein Bookstore.

The fruit stall next door, though, was still open.

No sight of people all day, only Xi Qian, the little girl, running the business.

"The affection has faded..."

Muttering to himself, Lin Suo suddenly heard a knock at the door and quickly got up to open it.

Under the glow of the fireplace, the bookstore seemed somewhat dim.

Outside the door, the biting cold wind and the lingering dampness freeze one to the bone with just a breath.

"Ah, it’s you."

Upon opening the door and seeing the young Half-Beast with wolf ears and a tail, Lin Suo felt an inexplicable disappointment.

"Mr. Rhein."

The Half-Wolf’s name was Amelian, a professional adventurer who had become an Upper Knight at a young age. He also possessed a strong Bloodline Power, with the ability to Transform.

He could Transform into a Werewolf form at any time.

Under a full moon, he was even capable of killing a Wizard Apprentice.

"Come in."

Judging by his travel-worn appearance, it was clear he was here for that matter.

The two sat on the sofa by the fireplace.

Lin Suo asked curiously.

"Did you find it?"

"Yes."

Amelian took out a handful of Wild Rice from his pouch; the grains were long but small, clearly malnourished.

Lin Suo seemed quite satisfied.

"How much did you bring back?"

"Um... about three carts. I ran around quite a bit and collected about... about... hehe."

Lin Suo: "..."

Waving his hand.

"If you can’t figure it out, don’t bother. Bring it to that small courtyard by the back door tomorrow. Did you bring the plants?"

"All brought, Mr. Rhein... you promised."

"I remember, don’t worry about me going back on my word."

"Here’s a hundred gold. Once you bring the stuff over, I’ll give you another five hundred."

"Then I won’t disturb your celebration of the festival, sir. I’ll come by personally tomorrow."

After some polite conversation, Amelian left, nodding and bowing.

Lin Suo had some reflections upon seeing this.

Such a young age, even a few years older than him, and with decent strength, yet so humble. And that amount of money, really wasn’t a lot.

Probably got quite a beating from society.

Staying in the bookstore for a while longer and failing to wait for the person he hoped to see, Lin Suo couldn’t quite pinpoint the feeling, but it was sour.

He donned his hat, draped himself in his coat, and headed to the Iron Hook Tavern.

"Tifa, bring me a drink!"

...

Shortly after Lin Suo left, a tall figure sneaked close to the bookstore, originally intending to knock on the door but seeing the extinguished lights inside.

Left with hesitation and frequent glances back.

Iron Hook Tavern.

The atmosphere of the Winter Fire Festival was very rich.

People gathered together, lifting large mugs of beer, talking merrily, boasting and chatting nonsense about the past years and recent events.

Chewing on hefty meat pies, bulging cheeks working away at the food.

The patrons mostly consisted of various races and crew members docked at the harbor.

Lin Suo sat at the edge of the bar, clutching a fiery drink, sipping one gulp after another.

Watching all this, he felt somewhat lost; these were all people without a home, yet he felt out of place.

The stronger the festive atmosphere,

the more intense the sadness in his eyes.

He couldn’t help but ask himself deep down, is it worth it to live like this? Is it fun? When can I go back...

Glug, glug~

A timely hooking of his mug with an iron hook, Lin Suo looked over with his somewhat blurred eyes.

It was Tifa~

"Is Cloud here?"

"What..."

Captain Tifa didn’t understand, not giving it too much thought, instead staring into Lin Suo’s eyes as if understanding something.

She shooed him aside with her behind.

"Rhein, care to hear a story?"

"What’s so good about stories, is Cloud here?"

"Once upon a time..."

Captain Tifa didn’t care if Lin Suo was drunk or mumbling incomprehensible words, she just went on with a story about a captain.
